  1. Thanks, Craig. Point taken about changing the coupling caps. I was considering purchasing a 'refresher' kit for the amp. I've noticed in my web travels that Hot Glass audio sells one that, I believe, includes just about everything I would need (coupling caps, rectifier, etc.). Does this seem like a good way to go? Do you offer anything like this? I'm sure Vacuum Tube Valley has something similar but I've not heard great things about their refresher kits. Thanks, Michael
  2. Craig, Yes, I'm interested in DIYing the 222c. Any advice would be appreciated. I know about the selenium rectifier, can caps (on top), and coupling caps (underside). I'd like to try to retain the coupling caps for a while if possible for that 'vintage' sound. The can caps should be a no-brainer if I go with a direct replacement. I haven't yet checked to see if the values are still available but I could always go with a custom replacement (I think it's Virboworld that makes them). If you could point me in the direction of the dropping resistor that needs to be replaced due to the rectifier replacement, that would be great. Would an underchassis photo help? Also, do you happen to know the part # for the new rectifier? Thanks again for your help, Michael
  3. Hey -- thanks for the replies everyone. It sounds like the Scott is the clear favorite. Does anyone know if there are instructions around anywhere on the web detailing how to replace the selenium rectifier? I've got the general idea but I understand that I have to tinker with the value of a few resistors in order to allow for the increased efficiency of the silicon replacement. Any hints appreciated as it looks like I'm going w/the Scott! They are quite nice to look at, aren't they? Thanks, Michael
  4. Hi -- I'm new here and was hoping for some opinions. I have the ooprtunity to buy either a Scott 222c or a Dyna SCA-35. Both units are in very nice condition. I've owned an SCA-35 before and really liked it. Plus, it seems easier to work on (to me) due to the PCB design whereas the Scott is point-to-point. But, I'm itching to try the Scott too...and those Scotts look so nice to boot.... Any opinions? Thanks, Michael
