  1. Lonnie removed support for that with one of more recent firmware updates. What do you mean by "removed support"? Does this mean that the last firmware update will fix the issue?
  2. For UMC1 -- Does anyone know why I can't hear sound from all 7 channels when I am in "All Stereo" mode? I hear 7 channels n PLIIx, etc, but not in "All Stereo".
  3. Quit worrying about the lights... that should be the least of your worries. Focus your stamina to endure the trial and error period that awaits you! The amp will be awesome, but you will go back and forth on the UMC for the entire month and will likely watch your return window while contemplating whether to return or not (at least I did). However, if you give it some time and patience to learn how it operates -- you will be happy (probably really happy). You hit the summary -- rest assured with the warranty, price and the coupon for the next gen. I wouldn't have considered (or even known about Emotiva) unless for the people on this forum... and now am happy with my set up (UMC w/ UPA7). Back to the original concern -- you don't want a completely dark room anyways. Put in some type of ambient light source and then the blue lights will be minimal. If you had the McIntosh blue lights you would probably be happy to show them off!
  4. I was recently in the same boat as you and went with the UMC (after trying a used Onkyo - similar to the Integra). Even with the UMC issues, I decided to keep the unit as the sound is really good. It just takes some getting used to, but you'll sleep better with a full warranty for several years and also a 40% off your next purchase discount (got mine in the mail today). It is worth the price... and the matching blue lights in the rack look good.
  5. What is the firmware supposed to do / fix? What improvements?

I see that you have the UMC-1 -- do you like it? Any regrets on the purchase?

    $1,500

Thanks for the post. I looked at one of the Anthem models awhile ago and then decided to leave the AVR world and get a straight processor. Now as I have gone full circle, and am starting to look back at the AVR's. However, I am very very happy with the UPA7 and for having an amp. While I don't think I need more power -- I would be interested to know what more power sounds like. Hence thinking more seriously about adding the AVR for the surrounds. Don't want to get another amp as I don't have any more rack space.

I like the UMC1... when it is working well. It just has kinks that you have to deal with -- blue screen every now and then, pause for sound to come on at certain times, remembering to turn on UMC first then the tv, restarting it from time to time, etc.

    $1,500

Thought this would be an intriguing subject line. If you have been following any of my posts -- you will know that I am having trouble finding a pre/pro or AVR. Quick recap -- I went from Pioneer Elite VSX-54 to the UPA7 + first an onkyo 885 (that had an issue and was returned), and now have the UMC-1 (but not completely satisfied). I really think my set up in very close to perfect -- just want a hassle free pro / avr that works as intended. So...what would you do with $1,500 if you were me? To complete an Ultra II THX 7.2 set up with the UPA-7 (that runs through a furman)--- what would you pair with it for the price range? Options: a. Keep the UMC and get used to the settings, etc and be happy knowing I have a 40% coupon to update later (and only have $700 invested). b. Go back to the familiar and get a Pioneer Elite SC-37 and use it to power the surrounds and use the UPA7 to power the fronts (not sure I need the addiitional power). c. Same as above but try to the Denon 4311 (recommended at local store). d. Get a tried and true Marantz AV7005. e. Other
  10. Thanks -- I guess this is what I asked for, however I was expecting there to be one code. SImply enter the code in and it works for all functions -- this list has hundreds of codes! Not complaining -- just didn't realize what I as looking for...
  11. Anyone have URC codes for Emotiva UMC-1? I have the MX-450 remote working fine by "learning" codes, however would love the real codes.

    UMC Questions

Today i turned on the tv and my picture was too wide for the screen. After everything was working fine and not touching any controls... my resolution changed. Actually the resolution on the screen says the same -- just the picture is too wide and looks stretched. Why so mnay issues with this thing?

    UMC Questions

Is it possible to get the UMC1 to play in PLIIx every time? Also, when will I get my 40% off discount card? Haven't received it...

    UMC Questions

Still trying to get all the settings correct on the UMC-1. My old Pioneer would always play audio through all 7 speakers no matter what I was watching (usually in PLIIx). Why does the UMC-1 not do the same? The UMC-1 usually plays only 5 speakers... then I have to get the remote out and try to go through the modes trying to click on each one trying to find 7 channels, but am usually not able to and therefore have to watch tv with only 5 speakers going. I realize that the Pioneer maybe didn't always have a direct 7 channel signal, however I still liked the sound coming from 7 channels.

    IR In & Out

To ensure that I understand, my steps would be the following: 1. get remote, 2. get RF base station, 3. hook up RF base station inside my enclosed rack (plug power cable into socket) and then let IR blast signal other components. What is the benefit of getting a special cable to plug the unit into the UMC IR slot? Would this just make the UMC the IR blaster versus the base station?
  17. Any stand would work they don't need anything special. Wait until they are working and balanced, you are going to be shocked. What do you mean by "working and balanced". I get the working part, but what about the balanced part? Are you just talking about the calibration and settings?
  18. I used to power mine with a Pioneer Elite receiver and then now have the UMC / UPA7 setup. I highly recommend getting an amp as you will notice a difference in detail. The UPA7 is fine (and I like it), however a little more power wouldn't hurt. I pulled the trigger on the UPA7 with the recent close out price, and the fact that I didn't want to have two amp taking up space in my rack. The UPA7 paired with the Marantz AV7005 would also be a nice combination. Note that I would not get the UMC1 unless you can dedicate time messing with the settings. For what it's worth I have mine mounted on the wall using omnimount mounts -- they work fine and have never slipped. I did ensure that I bolted into a stud though with some heavy duty bolts (not screws).

    IR In & Out

Does anyone use the IR In & Out plugs on their Processor / AVR? Specifically, how do I hook up my remote to operate the UMC-1 behind a closed case via the IR In or Out? I am in the market for a new remote and looking at the MX-450 (however it is RF and requires a separate RF unit). I have used Niles equipment before, but looking for less wires and a clean user friendly operation.
  20. I may have missed it, but I didn't see any pre amps / processors made by Pioneer. If this is the case -- why don't they play in this market?
  21. So... is there no way to get rid of the bars with my current tv (Pioneer PDP-5060)? I have played with all the settings I know and can't remove the bars...
  22. Why am I seeing black bars at the top and bottom of my screen when watching Blu Ray disc? PS3 slim to UMC-1 to Pioneer Plasma.

    HDMI Outs

If my UMC1 only has one HDMI out, is there a device or connector I can attach to have two HDMI outs to connect two TVs? It would be fine if both TVs could only show the same image. Just looking to connect an outside TV.
  24. Only looking for opinion, but what "great processor" and "plenty of power" source would you use for the THX Ultra IIs? Eh, it's a little out of my price range to speculate since I haven't demoed anything in that range, but I would want something around 200 watts X 7 channels. Something like a Parasound, Sunfire, or similar. Great processor would just be a "highly rated" pre/pro in the $1000.00 + range. I think what he's rockin out already meets those credentials. Thanks for the reply -- I was interested because I run the Ultra II set up and have (in the past few months) gone from an AVR, to a UPA7 with an Onkyo pro and currently the UMC1... however I am not sure if I am fully satisfied. Think I could have gone with alittle more power, however the power may be fine, but I want alittle more from the processor.

    SPL Meter

How are you setting the sub, you may need to set it higher at the amp or the sub itself so as not to max out the adjustment on the processor. When I set my sub I set it a couple db's higher than the rest of my speakers, I think I used 80db for all my speakers and 82 db for the sub. Since I can control my sub with my remote control I can lower the subs volume to match my speakers for music and leave it the 2 db higher for HT using my remote. (it's actually done automatically with my remote macro settings) But systems vary and it sounds like matching your other speakers is giving you more bass than you want. What do you specifically mean -- how I set my sub with the processor? Do you mean in the onscreen settings when you go to menu, etc? I guess it was set at whatever level it set when I did the microphone set up. I assume my next steps would be to turn up the sub in my onscreen settings and then retry the SPL to set it to 75 like my other speakers -- then I'll play with the tweaks. New question -- if a professional would come to my house (haven't considered this, and likely won't)... would they be doing the same thing I am with the SPL? Maybe with just a better SPL? I guess they would check placement, etc and maybe also advise on room acoustics.
