  1. Thanks for the replie. Yeah, something must have happened in the internet voodoo, because I never got an email saying I had a replie, just happened to notice it had a replie. anyways, thanks for the advice, I guess I was just worried I'd be missing a deal of a lifetime because I've been keeping an eye on klipsch subs and I've seen the prices hover around the $400-450 canadian mark for the last year or two. Thanks for recomending that Synergy Sub 12, I hadn't even considered or seen that one for sale. And reading the specs, that thing sounds like it'll pound the snot out of the floors, hehe, that'll be awesome. but just checked best buy, and yeah, still quite a bit of money. I think I'll just hang onto my infinity for now, even as it is, my system is total overkill for the tiny room I have it in now. So until I move into a new place, maybe I'll just keep watching for good deals.
  2. Ok, now that I've had a little more time to spend with the reciever I think my worries are over. And yeah, my old sony had the 0-40 scale for volume or something like that and this one is the logorithmic scale, and it gets quite loud. And I got it out of the pro logic mode and into the other modes like dolby digtal ex and what a difference, now I hear the improvement over the sony, I'm horible at discribing sound, but it's nice and crisp and clear, and I can't even get it close to full volume without the fear of going deaf. I picked up a pair of SS1's yesterday for a smoking deal of $199. I was a little worried at first about mixing synergy with the rest of my stuff being reference, but it was less than half the price of reference and for the rear channells not used as much as the front 3. And since the only ones they had left new in the RS line were the 35's they would have been overkill for my system I think. And the SS1's sound great so far. The one piece I have left to finish my system speaker wise is a new sub woofer, I started a thread in the sub woofer section, but havn't seemed to get any replies yet. Here is the link to it: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/thread/783623.aspx After the sub, and I think it's gonna be quite some time actualy, is the new Plasma screen tv. And hopefully by the time I'm ready the prices will have dropped even more.
  3. I've just recently been trying to finish off my surround sound setup and I think I want to get a new sub as a local klipsch dealer is having some amazing deals going on right now, on not only subs, but plenty of the recently discontinued stuff. Anyways, my system so far consists of: Pioneer Elite VSX 80TXV that I just purchased about a week ago, and still havent properly setup because of working a lot, rescuing friends 4x4's and working on my Jeep. Anyways, here is a link: http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/pna/product/detail/0,,32171715_32252773_327894164,00.html Klipsch RF-15's, RC-25, synergy SS1's (purchased today for a really good deal, was hesitant to mix reference with synergy, but less than half the price and for rear speakers I don't know if I'd even be able to tell the difference, the front 3, I could, but not the rears) And a somewhat decent old Infinity 8" powered sub. It's old, and doesn't quite seem to deliver enough punch or boom I'm looking for when watching action movies. And it seems to distort a bit when there is a lot of deep bass. The store I've delt with has a really good deal on the KSW 10 (I can't seem to remember how much, just that it was in between $200 and $300), an amazing deal on the RW 8 of $299 CANADIAN, and a really amazing deal of $199 for a new in the box RW8, but the only catch is, it's the silver one, $100 more for the black one. Now, I'd prefer black over silver, but I'm not an idiot that cares that much over the colour to spend $100 more for the same thing. btw, haha, hope nobody takes offence to the idiot comment, it was directed at me anyways, lol, it's just I'm on a tight budget and only reason I'm considering getting a new sub is because of the great deals on now that I think might not be around when I'm ready. Now I know that the KSW 10 usually sells for much more, and the RW 8 usually sells in the $460ish range, so, some smoking deals going on by the looks of it at London Drugs, and I think it's only in Canada, but I could be wrong. They have a pretty decent audio video department, nothing I'd ever suspect from a store with a name like that. The thing I'm not sure about is which sub is better for me. I've read the specs on the two, and it seems like the RW8 is the way to go, has a much more powerful amp, but I'm not sure if the KSW has an advantage because of being a 10" sub, that's why I thought I'd ask here. And if I go for the RW-8, would it be possible to paint the thing black without ruining it or looking lame? It's just everything but my tv is black and I think it would stick out like a sore thumb. hmmm, guess I'd need to find a new grill too. Ahhh, or I could just hide it in a corner I guess and not give a crap over the colour. Anyways, I know it's a long post, but I'd rather throw out all the info I can think of so that everyone has a good idea of what I got and what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance Kris
  4. yeah, it has a zone two or b zone, something like that, guess that's how it's done. I hooked it up, and to my dvd player, and I havn't gone through any of the setup, I realy only had about 30 mins to play with it, and my first impressions arn't very good, but I'm not condeming it yet, because I've barely touched it. But it sure doesn't sound as good as my sony did, thought I'd never say that, just because I knew my sony was mid range at best. Explosions and sword play don't sound as realistic right now, and it seams like I have to turn the volume up quite a way to just get it to regular talking type voice level, nevermind showing off the speakers type level. maybe I got something hooked up wrong, or it just needs to be setup right, but if not, maybe I'll take it back. I'm pretty sure it's my fault, but just did an ulta quick setup and wasn't pleased before going to work, so tommorow will check it over again, and if the sound doesn't impress me still, it'll have me wondering why I spent $500 more than basicaly the same, but newer model sony I had before.
  5. Thanks for clearing up the power isue. I'm still not sure which surround speakers to get though. would the RS 25's be enough? My next question is that I have is that on the back of the denon I was looking at (if you look at the back pic in the link) you'll see that they have connections for 9 speakers whereas my pioneer has 7. Now, I'm sure I'll be plenty happy with 5.1 setup and a couple outdoor speakers later, but I'm just wondering if I'll be unhappy down the road. Does anyone know if the pioneer can say play movies in 5.1 in one room, and output to the two other speakers something else, like play a cd at the same time, like the dennon can? Thanks, Kris
  6. Another thing I was wondering about, is that I was told that this pioneer could have 2 extra speakers hooked up to play out of zone 2, but looking at the back of the reciever, I don't see where they hook up. it's a 7.1 channell amp, but even the dennon and the yahmaha had an extra set of speaker connections for this, unless I'm missing something. I don't need it now, but I do plan on eventualy running two outdoor speakers of of this. Thanks. this is a link to the pioneer http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069789_310966022,00.html And here is the dennon I was looking at: http://ca.denon.com/ProductDetails/545.asp
  7. well, I finaly bought a new reciever, but I ended up going a different route, spent more than I planned, but I think it'll be good. I went with a Pioneer Elite VSX-80TXV. I havn't even hooked it up yet as I just got off work, anyways, after looking through the klipsch site, I have a concern that maybe this might be a bit too powerfull of an amp for my RF-15's as they say 100watts maximum continous power. And this amp is 110 watts per channel. is the 10 extra watts something to worry about? My RC 25 shouldn't have any problems, it says it can handle 125 continuous. And does that mean I'll have to go with RS 35's to be safe? as they are rated for 125 continuous, but the rs25's are only for 75? Or am I worring too much? The other one I was thinking of getting, that was $200 cheaper was the Denon AVR 1906 and I opted for the pioneer because it was more powerfull and was told it was quite a step up. The store I bought it at said if I'm not happy with anything within 60 days I can trade it in as long as I keep original box. What do you guys think, take it back for the Dennon? Or Keep the Pionner and be happy with it, as long as it's not gonna hurt my RF 15's? Thanks ps, I was set on getting the Yahmaha that I mentioned earlier, the store I went too offered a better price on the dennon.
  8. yeah, the more I thought about it today, the more I thought I don't really need an ipod, or the option to hook it up. I already have a sony mp3 player that I like, it realy only gets used when I'm working out. It's smaller, clips onto my shirt or shorts, way better batery life, and was cheaper. I rarely download music, I'm one of the few from my generation (I'm 25) that still like buying cd's, and yeah, I do notice a slight loss in sound quality so now that's been brought up, only the best for my klipsch's. I'll be looking at a few stores tommorow and should hopefully make my purchase. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I'll post what i get and how I like it.
  9. yeah, but that $229 extra includes the dock and the ipod nano, so not a bad deal for the money, and aparently you can sit back and use the remote control to control the ipod as well, wich, seems to be worth a little bit extra money. Is still havn't decided if I'll even go with the ipod, but if i do, seems like a easy way to conect and itereact with it. And right now the 2gb ipod nano is listed for $219, so $20 for the docking thing seems worthwile
  10. Didn't get a chance to go last week, went camping, and then straight back into work, but managed to check one store out tonight after work(was the only one still open) Anyways, found some toshiba models that look good. Found the RX-V657 for $570 (all prices in canadian dollars) the newer model, apparently only differences are it has ipod connection and extra set of coponent inputs for $670 or $899 with ipod docing bay connection thing and 2GB ipod nano. Thats the RX-V 659 And they had a 6.1 RX-V559 same deal with ipod stuff but $799, or $570 without. Now, these prices I can live with, not totaly sure if I'm gonna splurge for the ipod, but I'm thinking I should at least get a newer model that if I get an ipod later I can hook it up and still have the through the tv control display and all that stuff. The other thing I'm not sure of is if I should spend the extra $100 for the 7.1 reciever. Right now, I have a set of RF-15's an RC-25, and plan on getting some rear surrounds soon and not quite sure on wich sub to go with the system. And for now, just finishing off my 5.1 setup would be great, 7.1, well, I'm sure it sounds better, but I've heard some pretty impressive 5.1 setups, and not sure I'd notice a difference. And do any movies even have 7.1? I know I've only seen a few that have 6.1, and only one that comes to mind is Gladiator. And I do like the option of having a seperate set of speakers hooked up in another room running off the same amp for music. I can see eventualy getting some nice outdoor speakers hooked up this way, just two of them for stereo sound is all that is needed I think. Is this what others on here have done? Is this doable with the 6.1 reciever? Salesman said it is, but will only draw half the power, where as the 7.1 would run each channell at full power. Is this right? I'm planning on doing some more shopping around, and havn't even started to haggle the price down, the store I was at, I've got them to drop the price quite a bit on other items I've bought in the past. So any more suggestions or answers to my questions would be greatly appreciated again.
  11. Thanks for all the responses everyone. Lots of good info and suggestions there. I'm going to go and look at a few different ones tonight and try to listen to wich one sounds best for the money. I'll post here if I buy one tonight.
  12. Hi, I recently had my sony STR-DEG 75 stolen from my house, thank god the thieves were too lazy or stupid take my RF-15's and RC-25 (I know, system is just getting started, buying it as I can affoard it, and love Klipsch sound) Anyways, I was planning on replacing my amp with something better anyways, it's just I know very little about amps except basically in most cases, more money = better sound. I'm hoping that the insurance gives me at least enough to help put a good chunk towards the new amp. I'd like to keep the cost around $500, but if there is something much better that is up to maybe $700 then maybe I'd spring for it. Canadian dollars too by the way. So about $445 US to $624US is my ideal range.....but it's not set in stone, can go up a little more if need be. Also, heard that the sony didn't really put out that much power, so I'd like to put a little more towards my speakers, I know they arn't the biggest, but still specs say they can handle quite a bit more than I've been told my sony's rms power was at. So, if there are some favourites in that price range you guys and girls can send my way that would be great. Little overwhelming and I just don't trust the salesmen at most of the stores I've been in. Thanks in advance, Kris
  13. Because the total cost would be more than the entire system I'm thinking of getting. And doing a direct comparison between the RB 25's and the RF 10's both running with RW8 I thought the RF 10's sounded much better. I'm just considering the RF 15's because the cost to upgrade the package to them is not all that much. So, anyone think mixing the RF 15's in place of the RF 10s with the rest of the RF 10 system is a good idea? Or are the RF 10's best suited for the rest of the system?
  14. Ok, I stopped in again today and listened to the RF 10's and RF 15's side by side, and I do like the 15's better. And the guy told me that the package deal they have for the RF 10, RC 10, RS10's And RW 8 that they can let me upgrade just the towers to RF 15's for $100(Canadian) more. To me this seems like a good deal. This is streching my budget to the maximum though, still havn't decided if I should go all out and buy this now. But if I do, am I going the right route? Like will the RC 10, RS 10's be a good match for movie watching? Thanks in advance. Kris
  15. Thanks, RF 35's would be awsome, but that would completly blow my budget out of the water. And I was originaly just going to get some bookshelf speakers, until the sales man switched on the set of RF 10's. I havn't even heard the RF 15's yet. But basicaly this store has 2 major sales going on now for the reference series. One is for the RF 10 system wich basicaly if I were to buy every piece seperatly, I'd be getting the surrounds and most of the cost for the center for free. And the other sale they have on, is the RF 15's are for the same price right now as the RF 10s are right now. So I think I might just have to flip a coin on this, lol. I'm going back today and I'm going to bring in a few cd's and maybe a dvd or two give them both a good test and then decide. And I think that I'm not going to worry so much if I ever upgrade down the road. I'm sure I probably will one day.
