  1. SO, I think we may have found the problem, my stupidity. Here is how I had the Peach set up. I connected one set of RCAs to my B&K amp and then used a Y cable to connect the second set of ouputs to my subwoofer cable that split again into L and R at the RSW-15s inputs. Unknowingly this caused everything to sound like MONO. I sent the Peach back thinking it was defective only to discover that it was my set up that was incorrect. So here is my question. Why would the sub send ANY signal back into the preamp? I had no idea that sending a MONO signal TO the Subwoofer would affect the signal sent to the amp and my mains. I called Klipsch to ask them and they seemed to think that it was the preamp and not the RSW-15. I think Mark is correct but don't understand why. If I used 2 seperate RCA cables from the Peach into the RSW-15 will this fix the problem?
  2. I recently added a Juicy Music Peach II to my RF-7, RSW-15 set up and encountered an un-expected problem. I had Mark from JMA add a second set of outputs to the Peach for my sub. 3. It's on its way, I am actually glad to find out that something was wrong because i was starting to doubt tubes all together, the soundstage width is simply non-existant.
  4. I have been experimenting with speaker placement and nothing seems to correct the very narrow sound stage. In fact I can hardly tell the difference in the Mono vs Stereo mode. I have had these speakers for 4 years in the same room and the only change has been the Peach, it seems to severly consrict the width of the soundstage. I used the Led Zep song What is and What should never be as a test and the stero effect at the end of the song seems to be coming from slightly left of center to slightly right of center. (Not what I am used to with the Rotel). I did another test in HT bypass mode and played a Test Tone thru the Rotel to see how right, center, left and surround channel levels were. I was suprised to find that when the Test tone played thru the Left speaker it also played thru the Right. It seems as if I am geeting a MONO signal. Any thoughts?
  5. Juicy Music and Class D? Since I have added the Peach II (Lo-Z Mode) to my system (RF-7 and B&K 200.2) I have been curious about what a solid state amp with higher input impedance would sound like in the Hi-Z mode. I have done some looking around and the Channel Islands D200 look interesting. Has anyone tried class D or UcD with any Juicy products? Or tubes for that matter? Channel Island D200: Power Output: 200 watts @ 8 ohms/325 watts @ 4 ohms Bandwidth: 50kHz Frequency Response: 10Hz - 20kHz, +0dB/-0.5dB Damping Factor: >1000 Input Impedance: 100k ohms Gain: 32db (for use with VPC-1 or other passive preamplifiers) or 26db (for use with active preamplifiers) Dimensions: 6.25"w x 5.5"h x 8.0"d Weight: 15 lbs (each)
  6. Just read Mark's post, got it. Thanks.
  7. "Take the right/left channel gains of your Peach and turn them all the way DOWN. Take the main volume of your Peach and turn it all the way UP. Now, take your left/right gains and turn them up to about the maximum volume you'd ever think you'd listen. When you are happy with it, you are done. Should take you all of 90 seconds!!" This is what i have done already but this keeps the left and right gain at the same level. I have been told that in the Lo-Z mode the left and right should rarely be set the same. My question is how to balance the left vs right? I guess I will need to just do the best I can by ear.
  8. This may be a stupid question but what is the easiest way to set the gain levels? Do I need a test CD with pink noise? I have never tried setting levels by ear to music. Would this be possible to do without the help of a second person?
  9. "When using LoZ, you MIGHT find your level controls widely different from each other. Left at 2 o'clock and maybe Right at 10 o'clock. This is NOT A PROBLEM, nor should it be a concern. That's WHY we have those controls. It is making up for all the combined small differences between tubes, resistors, and even speaker placement. Don't fret over this - the controls are doing what they are meant to do. " How do you know how to set the individual levels?
  10. Peach II Questions I recently added a Peach II to my RF-7 based system and I have a few questions. My initial impressions are that the Peach adds a sense of depth to the soundstage and makes vocals more prominent (what I was hoping to achieve). I however have also noticed that it softens the attack of the snare drum and the bass sounds more rounded (this is what I have read may also happen) What I did not expect was that the soundstage width would be decreased. Is this typical? The center image is very strong and the sense of depth is great but everything is happening front and center. Even more surprising was that while in HT Bypass mode the “tube sound” is still present. I tried to listen to a song thru the Peach II and then through the Rotel receiver in “HT” mode and the Peach II certainly sounds better but I don’t think the Rotel sounds the same as it did before the insertion of the Peach. Are tubes in the path during the “HT” mode? Could anything else account for this phenomenon?
  11. I recently saw a good deal on a Rogue Perseus tube preamp. I am planning on pairing it with RF-7s and a B&K 200.2 amp. Anyone using the Rogue? I have been recommended the Peach II but want to look at other options as well. Anyone compared the two?
  12. Has anyone compared the Rogue Perseus with the JM Audio Peach II? I am looking for a tubed Preamp to pair with my B&K 200.2 and RF-7s. I have read great reviews on the Peach but the Perseus allows me to leave the preamp off while in HT bypass mode (nice feature). I know the Peach is a favorite but has anyone heard the Perseus?
  13. I currently have an RF-7 set up and would like to compare it to the K-horn. Does anyone know a place to audition the K-horn in or around <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Charlotte, NC? Also what would I gain by moving to the K-horn over the RF-7?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
  14. I haven't checked the forum in a while and saw "Colin", shirtless gazing up at the camera, what the hell is that? If you are going to post pictures of yourself please be fully clothed.
  15. I am in the market for a Tubed preamp and have narrowed the choices to the JM Peach, the new Cary Audio SLP 03 or the Rogue Perseus. Any suggestions? I have RF-7s and a B&K 200.2 amp at the moment and use a Rotel RSX-1056 as a preamp. I am looking to improve soundstage depth and achieve a more 3D sound. The Peach looks perfect but so does the Cary SLP 03, the Rogue also has everything. Thanks.
  16. I was in the market for a tubed preamp earlier this year but put the search on hold when my Yamaha receiver died and it had to be replaced. I now have a Rotel RSX-1056 as a receiver for HT and as a preamp for 2 channel with a B&K 200.2 driving my RF-7 mains. The Rotel sounds significanlty better than the Yamaha but I am still curious if tubes would take it to the next level. I have found a preamp that fits all of my criteria the Rogue Perseus, it has HT bypass, remote for volume and does not need to be powered on in bypass mode. Has anyone heard the Rogue? The JM Peach is often recommended but it lacks a remote and is too large for my audio rack, I also don't care for the styling which i know is very popular here. Also I really like the idea that the tubed unit does not have to be on in bypass mode, this way my wife can watch TV without using the tube preamp. Any Rogue owners? Will it best my Rotel?
  17. Thank you, if I were to run the Vantage/Sunfire EQ combo off of an analog preamp without the ability to cut the vantages at 50hz would the Sunfire blend well if i just used it's crossover at around 40hz?
  18. I have an RF-7, RC-7, RSW-15 set up at the moment and would like to have a second setup using Martin Logan speakers (Vantage) and have questions about a sub to match it with, has anyone compared the ML depth with Sunfires True EQ? The Vantage should have output down to 34hz so low bass is most important. I like the idea of the Sunfire better based on its size but was curious if the Depth would be a better choice because it had the same 8 inch driver as the Vantage. I would use it for music and movies but possibly in a 2.1 scenario. Final question is stereo the same as Dolby Digital downmix into a 2.1? Do i need a processor to downmix the signal from the cable box or are the analog outputs jinto a stereo preamp just as good?
  19. I can get a good deal on a 5.1 Rotel RSX-1056 to drive my RF-7, RC-7 set up. Anyone using this receiver? I will use a B&K 200.2 for the mains and the receiver for the center and rears. I have read about a hiss from this receiver any one using it?
  20. I called around and can get a Rotel RSX-1056 for $800. They have great reviews but some claim they have an audible hiss in 2 channel. Anyone using the RSX-1056?
  21. My Yamaha 2300 is shuting off for no reason so I am looking for a new receiver. I am using a B&K 200.2 for my front 2 channels (RF-7) and the Yamaha for my surrounds and center (RC-7). I would like to spend around $1K and want the best sound quality. I don't care about video switching and would prefer new for warranty reasons. (i bought the yamaha off the internet) I am thinking about the Denon 3806. Any thoughts would be helpful. I really want the best 2 channel possible. I have heard the Arcam AVR350 is awesome but it is $2.5K. Any thoughts on a warm sounding receiver with great 2 channel? Thanks.
  22. I am not referring to press but other audio forums, the Modwright SWL is recommended all over the place but on this forum the only answer is the Peach. Again I think the Peach would be a good choice but i find it odd that it is only talked about on the Klipsch forum. Type Modwright SWL into Google and you will find countless positive reviews from users with all types of speakers. The Peach has to have competition, it can't be the only tube preamp that mates well with Klipsch. I would just like to hear an actual review or comparison rather than blanket endorsements for the Peach.
  23. I am still curious if anyone has heard the Modwright SWL, this preamp gets rave reviews on many sites but I have never heard how it sounds with the RF-7. I am sure that the Peach is a great preamp but I am curious how it stacks up against the Modwright, which gets great press for many different sources. Again I am sure the Peach is good but I feel that whenever the question of preamps is asked it is the only response. Has anyone actually compared the peach to Modwright, Rogue, Conrad Johnson, etc.
  24. Thanks Mark, are there plans for a volume remote?
  25. Will using a Y connector degrade the stereo image? I have read that it will.
