  1. Has any body heard of these? I have a set.
  2. Me loves Khorns I sent you a pm Greg, did you have any trouble with crossover points?
  3. What is so expensive about this speaker from a manufacturing point of view? Obviously the construction is hard for the novice. Shops should have jigs, fixtures and equipment as well as Fab-to prints. The material is bulk. Just see Bob, Al and every body else about the rest. I suspect they charge for an eloquent design. Hey, I got an idea, lets get it made in china thru Walmart.
  4. Amp pre amp combo $1000.00 obo.
  5. I have (2) dynaco MarkIII mono blocks for sale, originally purchased from craig @ nos valves about a year ago. They have a brand new matched quad from Dougs tubes (kt 88's). Both monoblocks have 8 and 4 ohm speaker taps. They look good and sound good. I have a bez preamp ( no phono or tone controls) for sale as well, purchased from the parrot @ the same time. I will offer here first, let me know if your interested. T.C.
  6. thanks for the response Gil. the consensus seems to be an empirical understanding of your environment. Now the age old question nature vs nurture. how do I determine, are the speakers in working order and my quest is environmental instead of bad cross over or driver performance? How do I determine that an anamoly is not a bad crossover point or driver failure but is an accoustical mode etc. I observe these things @ the theoretical sweet spot .Surely I am not looking for a definite answer as it impossible to seperate the witnesss from the incident ( as in ufo sightings) just your opinions. May be the question is how do I verify all drivers are in working order and the cross over points are correct.
  7. Roger, I read this. @ what point does bass become omni directional in your opinion ( 100 Hz)?
  8. Shawn ,my aim in this exercise would be to judge the health of the driver. I have to admit a blown tweeter was not particular apparent on my tweeter(k horn). Supposen I were to say the drivers are perfect electronically( including crossover etc) I could adjust accoustically for the descrepancy. Using the method subscribed I could adjust the room response. Can I use this input from a fluke meter, is it just an input adapter from the meter to the computer (software)? In other words the first step is to see whether or not I have proper input and performance from the speakers (baseline) and then hopefully identify and treat acoustically with in the rooms parameters (never perfect, I am not an audiophile per say more of an engineer) .
  9. I have to admit I love 2005 for hardware and applications to give a reasonable base line to the novice with a wieghted interest to evaluate and tweak the the rule of past masters and superstiton of the newly ignorant. Bravo, I will check it out. thanks again
  10. I have a triamped system with external crossovers. Is it possible to use this diagnostic tool by patching into the speaker wire going to the individual driver while still mounted in the speaker. Possibly a question for the manufacturer, but because I have a rack mounted system complete with computer it is tempting. Anyone had experience with this or something better. Here is the link http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=390-802&ctab=6#Tabs
  11. Checked out the Behringer dcx2496 and talked to tech support appears to be a nice unit with lots of functionality, kinda where I'm headed. $250 not bad. The dc2496 however, Shawn you must be really serious about audio. Thanks for the tips.
  12. I find too that I cannot drive the bass bin, responsible for 60-440 Hz with additional input through the crossovers with out getting into trouble(too boomy). I can however attenuate the sqwaker and tweeter 6 db which is helpful @ higher volume. I still think it needs more, but until I get amps with individual gain control the only option would be an l pad.
  13. mdeneen I'm with you on the convience and simplicity factor, I am relatively new to the game and enjoy tinkering with my set up which will evolve as money and time permit. I did reference the article in this post and it seems passive crossovers are a deer shot vs. the smart bomb. If this were true passive cross overs present a unique challenge to people who are interested in making them. It seems crossover design is the sport of kings on this forum ( no offense Craig, I am a customer). On a different note the article did mention the benfits of a phase correct elec xover. Do you thinks the Behringer cx3400 3way 4 way acconts for this?
  14. Lost watts should not be a problem, they are plenty loud even in a large room. What are the symptoms of phase inversion?
  15. I have a triamped system (khorns and 18" velodyne hgs sub) currently. I use modified dynaco's for the squawkers a dh 220 for the bass bins and a south west 215 A for the tweeters. My preamp is a bez. I use 2 behringer 4 way mono crossovers set to stock crossover points. Supposedly these crossover have nice slopes and modern filters. So what am I missing with an active crossover vs. a passive crossover?
