  1. Hi all out there, Does anyone have a pdf or the like attachment of plans for Heresy Risers and are there any customs one's out there that work better ? Best Regards Lee
  2. Hi Again, Right, the bar is coming along nicely, a few minor construction issues but it's getting there. I have a sound guy assisting me with the audio set up in the bar over both levels and I've got 14 x Martin Audio EM15 & 2 x EM26 for downstairs, he has suggested that instead of taking the top treble/mid horn section off and building up the middles (like my first picture posted on here) it would be better to get the builders to make solid wooden corner plinths about 4 foot high (like a solid bass section of the Khorn, but slightly fatter) and mount the Klipschorns up on top of them getting them to around 9 feet total height. Also as I'm only having acoustic folk music in the bar and folk bands playing he recommends there being no need to change the crossovers (the bar is a rectangle shape with a seated capacity at one end of around 70 people tops with a further 30 standing). What do you guys thing of the above ? Best Regards Again, Lee
  3. Well, Work will be starting on the bar soon and estimated to take 5 to 8 weeks, when finished I'll post some good pictures of the set-up, but I'm not really up for the speakers being hung upside down ? more risk of someone hurting themselves by doing something dumb like trying to hang from them ? Until the Opening ! x
  4. That's right the picture is not of my bar, as I said earlier it's of David Mancuso famous LOFT soundsystem and the parties that originated in New York from the seventies at the birth of Disco, this picture is from London in 2006 as the parties are still going strong, I went last year and the sound was great. My bar is different in it's approach to music (less kick drums and deep bass needed) but will still have the same approach in sound, and yes I have got proper corners, just need to get the top units on the Khorns up high.
  5. Hi, I've had Klipschorns at home before a year ago and they do sound wonderful espeicially with my 7 watt per channel EL84 amp, hence why I'm getting them for the bar. But my front room 15 x 17 was a bit too small for them really, I've also had Heresy I's/Heresy II's/Leak Sandwiches/Townshend Glastonbury's/Quad ESL57's on stands (my favorite) and currently Rogers JR-149's. The music in the bar is going to be acoustic based and mainly Folk music (hence the bar's name "Dulcimer") so I really need a good clear background sound that I can turn up on a Friday night. regarding the people that will be in the bar, Manchester has a really strong community of music lovers and it's as important to them as it is to me.
  6. So how about using Khorns for live acoustic band, as P.A speakers ?
  7. The ceiling is around 10 feet high, won't the speakers sound weird upside down ? and is 150w solid state to high for continuous use ? Also thinking of covering the speaker fronts in clear perspex to stop any vandlisum.
  8. Hi Guys, Hope you all had a good Xmas & New Years, I've just won a great pair of 1990 Klipschorns from Ebay over here in the UK ! last time a pair were on Ebay over here was over 2 years ago, £1000 also ! Anyway, I'm opening a bar in Manchester, Uk this month ( see website for info: dulcimerltd.co.uk ) and am going to put my pair in the corners of the front of the second level of the bar (25 feet x 75 feet) to project out over the whole level & am going to configure the speakers with the top treble and Mid horn unit up to around 8/9 feet high (see recent picture of David Mancuso famous LOFT soundsystem set-up). I'm hoping this will benefit the bar and it's sound and the speakers won't be at direct ear level to people so they will be able to drink/talk etc without shouting at each other, also this stops people putting drinks on the speakers and spilling beer everywhere. I wondered if any of you guys have seen or heard or has any advice on this set-up for a commercial environment, also thinking of powering the Khorns with Mark Levinson ML2 25w Class A Mono-blocks (any thoughts?) 9. Thanks for the reply, Ok, will look for the Klipsch risers. The Heresies are an OK speaker, I've had the Heresy I's before and Klipschorns, I must say that the Esl57's are with out a doubt the best speaker I've ever heard, mine 57's are on stands getting them 12" off the ground to increase the bass response. The difference between the Klipsch speakers I've had and the quad's is that they are much more pleasent to listen to and less in you face, the sound is much more natural and does not sound like it's coming out of a box. My first "good" speaker was the Klipschorn and I really liked then but my front room (15 x 17) is just to small to accommodate them so they had to go, also the same with the Esl57's, they take up a lot of room that's why I've opted for the Heresies but the horns seem a little aggressive compaired to the Esl57's, maybe I'll get use to it ? maybe it's the positioning ?
  10. Hi All, Hope you're all well, I have recently purchased a pair of Heresy II's (very difficult over here in the UK) and wondered what you guys thought about stands/risers and how high up is best for them and best room positioning etc. I'm thinking of making a pair in wood like the Klipsch risers, at the moment I'm finding them a little in your face, and need to get them sounding better. I am still using the same 13w EL84 valve Amp that I've been driving my Quad Esl57's with. Any pictures of stands/risers and dimensions would also be a great help as it's imposible to get any info over here. Lee
  11. Hi All, I have had a pair of Klipschorns for 7 months now that I shipped over from the USA to the UK, I must say they are beautiful speakers but as being quite young and this is the first BIG step I've taken into HI-Fi I feel there may be a few issues and improvements that can be made as I feel the speaker do not sound to their fullest. Firstly my set up: Klipschorns x 2 Yarland 10 Watt Tube Amp Thorens TD160 Super/Linn Basik Arm/Linn K9 cartridge My front room is 15 X 17 Feet and I have been told this is just about big enough got the Khorns, the speakers are in the only two suitable corners about 8/9 feet apart. The left speaker is very close to the window and half the speaker over hangs the window by a foot, but this is mainly the top section, would a solid wooden partition behind one side of the speaker blocking off the window help ? They are both not flush to the wall and about 1 to 2 Inches away from the corners due to skirting boards and a plug point etc. Would a custom made base the shape of the Khorn with spikes increase the tightness of the base or/and should I take the skirting board off and move the position of the plug point ? or (and I very much don't want to do this ?!?) sell the Khorns and try for a pair of Heresy's or Cornwalls ? this options is going to be a problem as its very hard to get Klipsch Speakers over here in the Uk. Secondly, I was thinking of replacing the internal Speaker Cabling with Silver Cable as the cable in them at the moment is very poor. Also what about A or AA Crossover Upgrades ? Also the belt on my Thorens needs replacing which i've been told can cause a flatness to bass response. And lastly I've heard the Linn Basik arm is a poor choice for the Thorens Td160 and a rega or SME would be much better ? Any help for the experts out there would be greatly appreciated. Best Regards Lee
