  1. Thanks for the welcome, and answers. You say to set the bass management to BOTH and speakers to small? Most everything I have read said I should set the speakers to small, and send the bass to the Sub (not both) The yamaha is capable of this, but wouldn't i want the sub taking all the bass? (setting the bass management to Sub only) BTW - i dialed everything in last night and put in Dave Matthews Band Live in Central Park 5.1 - Holly Sheite! (I just got the Sub a few days ago, now i know what I was missing)
  2. My setup: Mains: SB-2s Surrounds: SB-2s Center: SC-1 Sub: Sub-10 Receiver: Yamaha RXV595 The Yamaha has a setting for the LFE adjustment. I don't fully understand what this would be for. This is what it says in the manual: LFE (adjusting the output level of the LFE channel) Control Range:-20dB to 0 dB (in 1dB step) Preset value: 0dB *This adjustment is effective only when the Dolby Digital is decoded and the signals of selected source encoded with the Dolby Digital contains LFE signal. Adjusts the output level of the LFE channel. If the LFE signals are mixed with signals of other channels to output them from the same speakers, the ratio of LFE signal level to the level of other signals are adjusted. Huh? Does this just lower the "volume" of the LFE signal? Why wouldn't I just do that using the Subs gain? Does this have something to do with the fact that the LFE signal is recorded -10dB. (I read something like that, and don't really understand it) (I'm trying ) Also, while your here, I have all my speakers set to small and have the crossover on the sub turned all the way up. (hooked up via rca cable - I also tried hooking up using Y-cable, and did not like it. When I was looking into buying the KSW-10, this is what it said in that manual: You can connect a mono subwoofer output on your electronics to the L/LFE input using a single interconnect cable. If there is an inadequate amount of subwoofer volume even with the level control set to maximum, add a Y cord to the subwoofer end of the cable and connect to both line inputs. This will provide a significant (6dB) increase in the subwoofers output level. I found that it got muddy so I disconnected it and just run it to the left/LFE jack) Sub's gain is set around 9 o'clock. (I bought a RS meter yesterday and was impressed how close I was originally setting it by ear) How am I doing? Any other setup recommendations are more than welcome. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the info. (I am going to pick one up at RS today. I have been holding off because my surrounds are not where they are supposed to be, but they will be in due time (still deciding on placement/mounting)) Any advice on using it? I know some of the DVDs have test tones for 5.1 (my receiver only runs tone for 5) I understand I set the same volume for the 5 speakers, but how do I set the volume for the sub with the analog Decibel/SPL meter? (Or is that strictly done by ear?) Y cable or no Y cable? And the LFE adjustment in the receiver, any thoughts on that? Thanks again.
  4. Hello, this is my first post - but I have been here quite a bit and have learned a lot, thanks. My setup: Mains: SB-2s Surrounds: SB-2s Center: SC-1 Sub: Sub-10 (2 days old) Receiver: Yamaha RXV595 Basically I just added the Sub (saweet) and need conformation on my setup. (I listen to all sorts of music, and watch tons of DVDs) I have the Sub connected over the RCA sub out from the receiver to the LEFT/LFE in on the Sub. There is also a RIGHT Line In. Should I use a Y cable into the Sub or not? (I've read use it, and don't use it) When I was looking into getting the KSW 10, this is what it said in the online manual: LINE IN / KSW 10 and 12 ONLY You can connect a mono subwoofer output on your electronics to the L/LFE input using a single interconnect cable. If there is an inadequate amount of subwoofer volume even with the level control set to maximum, add a Y cord to the subwoofer end of the cable and connect to both line inputs. This will provide a significant (6dB) increase in the subwoofers output level. Right now I have all speakers set to small (the receiver's cut off is 90Hz). I have read that I should turn the Sub-10's crossover all the way up (120Hz) Is that correct? But I also keep reading setting the crossover to the same value as the drop-off of what your mains can handle. (SB-2 specs): Sensitivity: 93db Bandwidth: 54Hz-20kHz+3dB Crossover Frequency: 2400Hz Which was is correct, and when would you connect it one way as opposed to the other? (or does this somehow have to do with the next question?) Should I set the SB-2 as large, and set bass (LFE/BASS OUT) to Both? I understand about the phase switch (get a friend, etc.) The gain should be my preference, correct? (make it all blend, seamless) I have an adjustment in the receiver for LFE. Default value is 0dB. (control range -20dB to 0dB) Do I need to make any adjustments here, or leave it at it's default value? Why would I need to do that at the receiver end, wouldn't that be the same as raising/lowering the gain on the sub? or Will that just affect the LFE, so it would have nothing to do with listening to music? I know I am very close, but some of it is a bit confusing. ANY advice is appreciated. Oh yeah, how did I watch movies/listen to music without a sub??? Huge improvement. Thanks...
