  1. Like everyone....I am biased. Based on your budget and our similar past receiver experiences, I recommend you buy the RX-Z7 and never look back. Pretty much a no brainer....

    2 cents.....

PS...if the highs are a little too harsh while cranking music, save one of your callibrations using "Natural Mode". This mode will tone down the high frequencies and will result in a warmer sound. The Z-7 will allow you to save several acoustic callibrations, and each can be recalled with a single press of a button. Awesome stuff....IMO.

  2. Buckeye,

That looks great, a perfect fit for the space that you had to deal with...

What kind of bracket did you use, or is it just using the keyhole?

    James

thanks... I went to Best Buy and bought wall mounts to hang them....

IMG_2722.jpgConsidering they only weigh about 7lbs each, it wasn't too difficult.

Because of the extreme height, I made sure they were aiming down directly at the primary seating position.I had to deal with what the roomg gave me. My little piece of modest HT heaven.....LOL

  3. New toys are always fun...I have a hard time even keeping up with them. Shortly before Christmas, I picked up a Yamaha RXV-3900

IMG_2597.jpg?t=1268423289 I allowed a brief moment for the old/new to pose together before the old (RXV2500) was sent to serve "Garage Duty" to anchor my garage system. The 2500 served it's purpose well.....it was an excellent HT receiver..IMO

Since then, I bought Klipsch speakers to hang as "BACK" speakers...

    IMG_2721.jpg?t=1268423529

Here is one.......being prepared to hang.......with booze present....(of course)

After the hanging along the back-wall...............

IMG_2724.jpg?t=1268423637It was a match made in heaven...LOL I had space restrictions....and it fit the mark!!

    LOL

  4. Since I aquired the almost free RF-7's I decided to get a bigger tv..then needed a new stand for the tv..Now I need a bigger center channel and then a bigger sub.

Free never costed so much lol

Hahahahahahaha.....I can relate. When my low-def sat-receiver went bad in 2004, the chain reaction result cost me more than $10,000+.

  5. Re: Is $1100 a good price for rc62 , 2 rf82, 2rs52 all new from authorized dealer

I agree with what everyone else said. I bought virtually the same setup when the RF82's were a new model. ....in '05 or '06 maybe??? I can't even remember when I bought them....LOL

With that said, I think I paid roughly $1650 after tax for the above after negotiating what I thought was a very good deal with a brick/mortar dealer. The only difference is I bought the RF52's for surrounds not the RS......which might even be cheaper than the RS52's. If the offer is legit/new product........it's a very good deal.

  6. Most people are used to listening with heavier than flat bass, that's why you probably don't like how things sound after you run YPAO. On paper it might look good but that doesn't mean its going to sound good.

There is probably a lot of truth to that statement. The primary gain control knob on my sub is set where I want it....and YPAO always seems adjust it by -4db....LOL The first manual override I make after running YPAO is always to adjust the LFE level back to 0db[:P]

I always keep the LFE receiver setting at 0db.....I may tweak the subwoofer gain control from time to time depending what I am watching, but I always make that adjustment on the sub itself.

  7. In your experence is there a rule of thumb of when to use each one: flat, front and natural?

Only use 'front' if your front speakers are of superior quality and non matching speakers. The front setting will not equalize the front speakers...so it is not ideal, but this setting will blend the other inferior speakers to match the front speakers as best as possible.

If you have matching speakers, the flat setting is ideal......

Natural is similar to flat, except it de-emphasizes the high frequencies. It's only recommended if you calibrate using the flat setting first and that result is a little too harsh for your personal taste.

  8. besides, there's not a whole lot of 7.1 discs out there at this time so you won't be missing much.

You don't need a 7.1 disc to enjoy 7.1 surround:)

    just saying.....

Ideally, you'll want a couple/few feet of space behind the primary seating position for mounting purposes, but it isn't absolutely necessary. Wall or ceiling mounted speakers direclty behind angled downward will provide the 7.1 effect too....

  9. It's all in the settings....front-natural-flat?? ect...etc...

Plus there is nothing wrong with tweaking to meet your exact needs. I have some experience...own both the 2500 and 3900 currently..... I tweak the settings for ME....

The end result is always exactly what I want...

  10. I agree with several of the above comments.....

You have a dedicated HT room with a PJ, why would you denegrate the surround experience by neglecting proper surround? (not to be confused with rear/back speakers in 7.1 surround)

My 2 cents... It would be simple to hang a pair of RS42 or RS52 speakers on either side of the room in the required positions from the ceiling...get the necessary bracket/mounts, and you're good to go.....angle them downward towards the sweet spot in the seating area.

PS...you don't want seating hard against the back wall. Move the seating forward!! ....at least a couple/few feet depending on the room size will make a difference. Sitting against the back wall is terrible for acoustical performance reasons.

What do you have for a sub?

  11. As I await the system's arrival I intend to start running some speaker cable. Some of these runs will be over 30'. My dealer recommends monster THX600 speaker cables.

My concern is the distance and the 14AWG. I am of the mind to go with a 12AWG or 10AWG for the long runs. Do you smart HT folks have a recommended speaker cable to use that will not cost me my first born child?

You just opened a huge can of worms.........LOL

My 2 cents...check Lowes.... they sell speaker wire by the foot from a huge spool. (at least they used to) Something like this probably wont show up on their website. Calculate how many feet you need....and they'll measure it off for you. When I bought mine, the largest gague they sold was either 10 or 12 gague. I have some long runs too.....and I got the biggest gague they had. I just can't remember whether it was 10 or 12. It's pretty thick...that's for sure.

  12. Oh...I thought that's how it was supposed to go. Congrats on the new toys. What model are they?

RS10...... Obviously basic, but they fit the space[;)] I'm happy to have them as back speakers...definitely a big improvement over what I had before!! I'd love to have some RS42's in the back, but they are too big.

Nice- I had Bose for 1 week- we all have to learn. You will be will happy with the outcome. Congrats

LOL....with me it was even worse because I knew what I was buying. I figured they fit the space...so they were better than nothing. I never expected they'd "Hang On" for 5yrs. They were meant as a stop gap to get 7.1.

  13. They are just modest little "BACK" channel speakers....but that is besides the point!!

........my previous "BACK" speakers were crap.... Bose 161 back speakers completed my 7.1 system. OUCH!! I bought them for the sole reason they fit the limited space. (above a curtain rod/below the ceiling) I owned them for 5yrs...but it was nagging me for a long time. Part of me thought...they're only back speakers, but I always knew they were sh!t speaker. At some point, I knew they had to go....

So last weekend I was surfing the web with no intent to buy anything when I clicked "Order Now"...on a whim/impulse. Totally unplanned...I thought...did I just buy speakers?? Well.......Those speakers arrived today.......

Modest and relatively inexpensive little speakers, but they fit the space...and they are Klipsch!! I had to buy a bottle today to accompany me during installation!....LOL......HT install.......a drink is a staple. IMO.....

    IMG_2721.jpg

I made a bit of a mess of it because I am not handy, but I got it done....

    IMG_2722.jpg

I still have to clean, but I am happy with the result[H]

IMG_2724.jpg New Klipsch "back" speakers in the house stories....anyone???

PS...weird.....all the pictures are cropped on the right.....maybe the file sizes were too big?

  14. Haha....too funny. I used to milk it for all it was worth when I bought a new receiver etc, etc...

I recently bought a new receiver and did a quick-change. I must be getting old...LOL I stacked the two....transferred wires, had my wife help lift and remove the old one once all the wires were disconnected...LOL

It only took 2 minutes....Hah Everything sits forward so I can walk behind without moving anything....definitely makes changes easy.
