I own a 6100.
I purchased it to complete my vintage Marantz system. I originally and still want a 6300 for the system.
Mine is in excellent condition, but, it does have some noise that seems to eminate from the plinth or base and is transfered through the arm.
The noise is almost like a very dull roar, as if it is caused by the motor echoing through the table. If that makes sense.
I don't hear the noise while music is playing, only during lead in grooves and between tracks.
I don't know if it is an inherent issue or just my particular unit.
I had it checked out by a very well respected phono tech when I first got it and had the cartridge installed (Ortofon Red). He gave it a clean bill of health.
I don't think these tables are as quiet as others that you could find at $150.00.

I'm certainly not in a hurry. I just get caught up in the moment when I think there may be a great deal in audio, no matter what the item is.
The sickness does not relegate itself to "just speakers".
For me, it extends to all things audio.
I can be very impulsive.

Thebes, I will be using it on a JVC QL-Y5F turntable with an electro dynamic servo tonearm. It is a med. to heavy arm.
I used to have an Ortofon MC 10 MK II mounted on it. But now have a Shure M97xe.
I miss the detail that the Ortofon brought out of the vinyl.
I have thought about another Ortofon, but, the ones I am interested in are a bit more costly than what I am prepared to spend at this time.
So, I have been thinking Denon 103 or the 301 that you have chosen.
I will be using the table in conjunction with several diff. preamps as I rotate my gear.

Hard to believe but two days later it's in my house via the Post Office of all places. It's mounted, but not yet quite dialed in. Comet indeed.

Thebes, I am breathlessly waiting for some feedback on the DL-301.
I am a man of meager means and am in search of a good MC cart. at a price I can live with and it appears this cart. is one of the few within my grasp.
I was considering the 103, but, it costs a little more than I want to spend at this time.

Yeah... I do not know what to make of that post......
I am sure there are enough sellers out there that this CL poster could purchase from to make this "wish" come true......

I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area and am also very skeptical of this post.
I just sold my Belle's (which were advertised on craigslist) a couple of days ago and this person had an opportunity to jump on them, and as far as I know, I didn't hear from them.
I didn't get any stories of that sort by interested parties. Which doesn't mean that it is not a legitmate ad.
I could just be way too critical and quick to judge. (a small character flaw of mine)

I have a C 26 and like it quite a bit.
I use it with my MC 2105 and am pretty happy with the performance of both.
It is an oldie-but-a-goodie

I don't have Forte II's at the moment (have Forte's) but have owned them in the recent past.
I am driving my Forte's at the moment with a Sansui 9090Db receiver and loving it. I have them in the bedroom.
I have pushed the Forte's and the Forte II's at different times with my McIntosh MC2105/C26, B&K ST1400 Series II/PT3 combo's, Harman Kardon HK430, Marantz 2275 and Luxman R-117 receivers and found they sound pretty awesome with all of these old pieces.
I however, did not try them with my Scott 299D. That will have to be the next experience.

Hey everyone.
I've got a 2 channel home theater/music setup in my house. I have a 50" plasma wall mounted, and the speakers on DIY pedestal stands with all the wires hidden.
Question is, I'd like to keep the very clean image of a uncluttered setup, and my optimum spot for my new subwoofer is right under my left KG4.
So what I'm wondering, is it wrong to mount a couple shelves to the wall to set my KG4s on?

I think you should put them where ever you want.
I don't think you will be enjoying the benefit of the passive radiator so close to the wall, but, it looks like you aren't anyway with the speakers right up against the wall like you have them in the pic.
Placed properly (if able) the KG4's sound fantastic. I start at 12" from back wall and adjust accordingly for best bass response

Dave, I was in no way insinuating that my agreement with Mark when it comes to the hobby of audio reproduction in the home as a hobby, had anything to do with your love for music.
I love music and it has been essential to me as a form of therapy at many different times.
The acquiring of speakers, amps, preamps, source components and yes, even cables and interconnects to a degree of overkill is pretty much for enjoyment and could certainly be construed as egotitstical to some degree.
Do I give a rats hiney?
I enjoy this stuff immensely.
Please accept my apology if you have taken my agreement with Mark's statement in any other way than I had intended it.

Here's my advice to everyone and anyone thinking about spending money on a stereo. Don't spend over $49.
Crikey, Mark. Don't go south on us. Your really aren't too far off. If you don't need a mass of volume, and don't need a mess of bass, a bit of waiting and watching can get you a pair of Frazier Super Monte Carlos. That and a T-Amp will set you back perhaps 120.00. Then, the odds are many already have a computer with an Intel 1708HD chip set. They are almost ubitqitous. The sound will be accurate, and marvelous.
You can get a replacement cord for the lamp you had to cannbalize for the fine speaker cable later...

Seriously Dave, let's be honest. Every dime spent on this nonsense is idiotic ego gratification and playing with toys. I have to laugh that someone would think it insane to buy a $250 wire, and then think it's fine to buy speakers the size of coffins for a simple living room. Who is BSing who here? This entire hobby, like ALL hobbies is impossible to justify on any rational basis. Jeff has already mentioned a good number of idiotic pursuits, and he barely scratched the surface.
Now, it's fine to have these hobbies and blow money like mad at them, but let's just be clear that is what we are doing. You can't possibly rationalize X and criticize Y within the same genre of hobby! People spend money because it is fun to do so. "This" - all this nonsense about amps and wire and speakers - is simply one of those excuses one can use to have the fun spending the money and playing with toys. Hey, if some cat wants to build a monster system out of nothing but exotic wires and a boombox, who cares? More power too him/her. IT IS ALL NONSENSE--- Laissez les bons temps rouler!

hi all......
guys i just had a wild idea about DE HORNing my RF3s ,and see how they would sound compared to my fostex . but hey,fostex rm 800 are again horn loaded.okayyyy, ill compare em with celestions here .the point is simple,n that is to hear a klipsch without its horn .
how would that thing do ? plz someone can highlight on this before i go beserk with the experiment ....lolz.
would the horn harshness which is typical of klipsch go away (sorry i disagree but as many people around the globe say horns do sound ruff and harsh )

I like my B&K PT3 preamp/tuner.
Can get them relatively cheap, probably $200-300 used.
It can be used for 5.1 also. I don't know if that is a pos. or neg. for you.

Man.....that would be...comforting. Could you post a picture(s) of that? Are they on homemade shelves?
I have them in 3 media storage cabinets that are of the cheap variety (two pressboard and one unfinished solid wood), in the drawer of my ent. armoire, an Oak lawyer's style cabinet and a small glass front cabinet that I could hang on the wall, but is just sitting on top of the lawyer style cabinet.
Oh, I forgot to include the small antique 3 drawer cabinet next to the ent. armoire.
I have burned many of them myself. If I hadn't, I'd of gone broke buying the darn things.
That's exactly what I was thinking, they must be in many places. I only have a couple thousand CD's and they are in many places. I am in the process of trying to get them in one place, but that is not as easy as it would seem.

My thinking on used cartridges is, if you don't know the history, don't place a lot of value on it.
You cannot be sure of wear and age. Cartridges don't last forever. You can replace a stylus, but, the cartridge degrades with age.
If you are refering to my comment about the noise coming from my table, the noise is not from transport screws left tightened.
