  1. I also need to add that the subs although surrounded by the cabinet would be open to the front (of course) and sitting directly on the floor. Tom
  2. I should add that I have a thx ulta II 5.1 system with the 3 KL 650s fitting in the cabinet. Getting the subs in there too would help with room asthetics and funiture placement. Tom
  3. I have a large A/V cabinet I am considering altering to fit 2 THX ultra subs. They would fit in a space under the shelf the A2000 would sit on. My suestion is would this configuratin cause problems with the picture on th 60" Sony a 2000 I am close to buying. I have a 15" sub in the room now and it can make the picture on my 8 year old rp flicker. Tom
  4. IndyKlipschFan, very good point. Everything is relative. My A/V education and system capabilities has just recently took a giant leap forward. I like what I am hearing. Perhaps I'll have a dedicated HT room someday and I will loosen up and do something that will take me to another level. For now I have already streched my sound budget beyond all original intentions and I believe it was money well spent. This started out a few months ago when I decided to buy my first HD tv. I began looking at forums to see what people thought about all the different technologies and brands and from there it just took off. So it is because of forums like this and folks like you all that I did not end up with a Bose or Bose like system. I took your comment about 650s all around not as criticism but rather as food for thought and possibly something to look at. I like to hear what people who know more than I on this subject think. I am just resisting, so far, the temtation to move in that direction at this time. I still have to buy that 60" tv. Tom
  5. If I change from what I have it will probably be to the ultra surrounds in my 5.1 system. I see the system you have and I bet that is awesome but I doubt I would ever go to the expense of 7 or 5 650s. I am currently using RS 62s for surrounds. I have another working thread where I was exploring a related subject that has evolved into essentially the same discussion. My bad. I will add a quote from it to give you a better idea of what I am doing. "I purchased three 650s to go across the front. I will have the opportunity to compare since I still have the Ref speakers (RF83s). It shouldl be just a few more days before they are delivered. Truthfully if I can put them in the AV cabinet and they just sound as good as the Refs sound in their placement I will be happy. I have seen lots of pictures of home theaters with large foorstanders out from the back (front) wall and everything arranged in such a way that it looks great. These are usually dedicated home theaters. That is just not working in my family room or great room as some would call it. I want to tone down the home theater look without sacrificing the sound or listening pleasure. I had the cabinet built some years ago. It can be modified to accept a 60" rp, the three speakers and all of the components. Right now it is taking up space in my garage so I decided to take the plunge and do a comparison." I am using a Revel B15 sub.

Sorry to have left this hanging with no reply. I purchased three 650s to go across the front. I will have the opportunity to compare since I still have the Ref speakers. 8. Thanks for the help. It has been put to use.
  9. That's what I'm seeing. As I stated I have not seen any mention of this in the online manual for these. There must be an eplanation. Tom
  10. Are you sure. When I look at the picture on the web site the two outide speakers have the port down and the horns to the outside. That is not the same. Tom
  11. I have seen various new and used of the KL 650 THX Ultra II speakers in singles or pairs on ebay and elsewhere. Some some are indentified as lefts, some as rights or some just don't say. So there is a left and right I guess. Is it critical to have a different left and right front speaker in the kl 650. Is the center also a dedicated center or do you use a left or right here? For those that know this must seem like a silly question but I have read the online owners manual and etc. without finding an answer to this question. If anyone were planning on gathering three across the front by buying singles this would be inportant to know. Tom

    kL 650 THX

Thanks Mike. I had heard that the thx and Ref were very close. If the thx line is a definite step up then they must not be that close. Oh well. If I were going to go three thx across the front I think I might consider wainting until I can go THX ultra all around. Back to the drawing board. Tom

I was wondering how KL 650s l&r would match up with an RC64. I have the RC 64 and RF83s but the 650s would fit my im my av cabinet and the 83s of course will not. I have the RS62s and a Revel 15b sub. How would the thx 650 blend? Thanks. Tom
  14. Are there no opinions about this? Tom
  15. I now have an extra pair of RB81s (bought 7.1 but only using 5.1) and so thought I might set up a second surround systen in my study. I have noticed some good deals on the discontinued RC35s and RS35s. Would these match up well with the RB81s in the smaller space of the study. Tom
  16. I second what RichardP said. I got to meet Rich to conclude this sale and he impressed me as a guy who loves (and knows) his A/V and wants those he does buisness with to enjoy theirs too. Thanks Rich. Tom
