just to refresh my memory why do you need wire rated UL to go behind the walls? what goes into getting that rating? if you were to use the normal wire but have a tubing installed behind the walls so the wire stayed competely in there would that be okay too??
-
don't waist your time, go to www.outlawaudio.com and get the 990pre pro and depending on the speaker specks get an amp also. there is several places you can find both items used, but you have to do some searching. when the funds come available i am going to get both. in the mean time, if you want to be able to use the speakers just go out and buy a cheap $150-$200 processor and enjoy what you got untill you can get the good stuff. i am still using a $289 processor i bought around 9 years ago!

go with good quality 12awg. you can't go wrong. the awg depends on LENGTH and watts. if you are running wire to the rears and you are using around 50'-70' the 12awg will hold the juice and (it will be easier to push the watts at that distance. i used the 12awg wire we use on the aircraft...free is always a nice thing...and it works great. my runs arn't that long either, the furtherest speaker was 45'. for the most part wire is wire, take james advice, bluejeanscable.com is a really good company. you can also try cablesolutions.com. if you have trouble finding them on the web go to ebay and type in "canare" those two companys will be in there. thats where i got my canare cables, which i have to add my 2 cents and say they are awesome!
i hope that helps

here is the over all structure dimentions for the room. it's 15'x12' and it should be big enough to have 3 chairs across, maybe 4. depending on the builder i may have to widen it a bit. all that would mean is more room for the chairs to go across. i am not sure how or if i could do two rows, but i only have a family of 3. if anyone knows good dimentions of some media chairs please respond. whats a good distance to be sitting away from the tv? this tv is going to be the 70" one so i would assume the further the better. i am thinking i should make the room wide enough to have 4 chairs across. any opinions???

here is the plans for the perposed et center. the big square empty holes on the far top and left will most likely be drawers to hold stuff. the center speaker goes of course in the top center. the bottom center square if for the outlaw 990 pre/pro. the bottom left is for the outlaw 7100 (james i am sorry i will eventually get one). the two squares on the bottom right is for the blue ray dvd player and playstation 2. i think it is nice and will do it's job.

here is the updated pdf. right now the chairs are 1' 6" apart (normal chairs) and there is 4' 6" from the front of the first chair to the front of the tv. the room is 15'x12' and there is a 4' door. the electronics is going to be under the tv (i already drew up a perposed et center i will have built at a later date) along with the center speaker. i can put that pdf in here too later on.

james,
yes the dimentions go from the window to the WALL of the stairs. i have that entire room if i really want. i don't think the chairs will recline, just some comfortable ones. i really need to get to an et store and see what is available, along with the dimentions.
i am thinking of shrinking the room 1 foot to make it 15x12. that way i can two good size rooms. if i do the "recliner" chairs, i just might put 2 or 3 in there. my living room right now with the set up is 15x11, so i have a good look at what the size will be.
i will link a new pdf file for what i was thinking of doing.
-
hum....i think maybe 9'. it is going to be angled in the front, back, and on the window side. the dotted line on the plan (the one with the link) shows where the slop will be.
-
come on guys...input....input....input....jonny 5 needs input!
-
i was thinking some more. maybe a 13x15 room will work and it will give me a much bigger media room. look at the drawing and let me know what you guys think.

man, nobody needs help? well it's there if anyone would like it.

okay, i am buying a David Weekely home. it's going to be built from the ground up and i have some options on my "bonus room" http://www.davidweekleyhomes.com/images/planpdfs/1751d2.pdf that should be the link to the floor plan.
the bonus room is 15' X 25' (not including the 6' X 10' part by the stairs). i want to add a wall to this room making it into a closed off media room and a small game room (well smaller). the problem is i don't know where to place the wall. i have drawn the room in autocad and dimentioned it out. i made the "chairs" 3'x3' and placed them 1' apart and 2.5' behind. the last row of chairs won't be added for some time so it will be very empty for a while. (also when the time comes i may put the back row of chairs on either a 1' platform, what would be a good raised dimention?). i am guessing 5' from the tv should be a good viewing distance. (the tv will be the sony 70" rear projection http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=KDSR70XBR2&Dept=tvvideo&CategoryName=tv_Full_HD_1080_Rear_Projection
as it stands now i will have 4' on either side of the chairs from the wall. there is also 5' from the front chairs to the tv. at what dimention should the rear wall be placed behind the LAST row of chairs? does it matter that much? should i keep it the same distance as the tv to the front row? just remember the rear wall can be placed ANYWHERE, i have up to 25' total in that room. i am just looking for a good room dimention and hopefully i don't scarifice my "game room" all that much. i really only want to put a computer desk or maybe a air hocky, or even possibly a shuffle board table in there. i also want to add in, the "closet" and the square with the circle in it, will be removed. the closet is going away the the square with the circle will be moved to be even with the wall and an identicle "collum" will be placed on the othe side. (it's some kind of vent or something like that). i am also asking where the door should be placed. i was thinking to keep it in the front so it would be easy to bring the tv in (especally once i add the raised floor).
also the windows in the front of the room, i am going to hang thick drapes the entire length of the wall and give it a "theater" feel.
i just thought and drew this up. i wanted to see if 6 chairs could fit in this room. i drew it up and it seems like it would. what do you think of keeping all the dimentions 2'? okay okay, it's late i can't sleep so i did some more drawing. this one has the perposed speaker placement with the rear chairs 2' from the wall. the red line is a 3' door dimention. the magenta box is the thickness of the tv. that would give me a 7'x15' game room but a 15' x 17' 6" media room that would hold 6 chairs. (i don't even have 4 friends i could invite...maybe i will make some if i build it....lol.
again, no sleep, redrew. i will most likely never have 6 chairs, 4 would be ideal, bigger walk ways. i also couldn't put in a step up because of the way i have to enter the room. i placed the door (4ft) in the middle of the wall, just keeping it all even, becasue it seemed like the best choice.
could all this be made easer if i just made the room 15'x15'???
thank you for all who help in this decision!

just my two cents...i live in dallas and there is a mall with a sony store. in this store there is a 70" sxrd 1080p tv. you should see this thing. now at the store it's $6000, but i found it on line, new from a company...not individual for $4200. i am going to use that in my future media room instead of front projection. it will only be used for movies.
is this tv for regular tv viewing? if so, don't get the 70"....the 40" look the best for regular tv. if you want to check on line heres the link..... http://www.nextag.com/70-tv/search-html
good luck!

hello everybody!
I have a degree in computer drafting and was wondering if anyone needed help designing a custom ET center? I designed my own and for what i need it works great. What i am offering is just something better than a paper napkin to the poor guy who has to figure out what you are talking about before he builds it. this way i can draft it up for you, send you the file, you ok it, then you can just e mail it to who ever you want to build it. i have all the drafting programs and can do it rather quickly. If you are interested either e mail me or pm me. I will only charge $25 to do...maybe more if it gets way too complicated. i just enjoy drafting and i love HT, its fun for me. also if you want to see something i have already designed i can e mail you the plan for my ET and a pic.
it may be easier to just e mail me at noltingdavid@yahoo.com if you need help or have questions
Thanks to all who are interested
David

If anyone is thinking of upgrading their Outlaw 7125 amp and want to sell it...drop me a line. If anyone has a simular amp that is just as good let me know also. i am looking for the 7 channel and no more than 125watts.
-
well i have to try...i think i just might go the 990 also. i called Outlaw and they said the 970 would be just fine since my HT is small and i only use it for movies. I am not a cd music guy, i don't even own even 1 cd!
-
well i am thinking of going with Outlaw 7125 amp for the 7 channels and the watts are only 125 which is more than enough for me. i will most likely get an Outlaw 990 processor as well.
If anyone has either one for sale at a good price I might be willing to take it off their hands.

getech...the earthquake looks nice but is going out of my budget. so far the outlaw line doesn't seem to make my wallet run and hide. thanks for the info.
-
but where or what store sold them to you?...i am assuming when my wife lets me get new speakers yours will be sold.
-
okay, i see what you are getting at silversport...buy the 1070 processor...even though it only has 65w per channel i am not going to be using it for pushing my speakers... i am going to buy an amp...most likely the 7125 because i have 7 speakers...and they don't need more than 125w per channel...especally the surrounds...
-
Yes i would like no banannas!...lol....lol even though i pleaded with the wife, it's a no go. i was wondering...for $2800 that is very low...where did you get this set in the first place??? klipsch has it listed for $6000+....thats a lot off for just a few months...
-
I just looked at the outlaw web page...it looks like the older model 7125 would be the best choice since my speakers have the 100w/400w max and klipsch support said i should stay around the 125w to 150w. i looked at the specks and i have to say it is all &*^&%$#$ to me. i have no idea what it actually means. is there some post here that explains the specks of stuff....the break down of the numbers???
now the hard part..is a preamp/ processor and all in one? i wanted something that i hooked everything up to but didn't have any power...does that even make sence...the best example i can think of is a guy i knew had a Sunfire processor and it wouldn't work unless an amp was hooked up to it. does outlaw even have that?
-
Madness....that is a great way to put it. Then again when you think about it....putting $5000 into a computer once a year....thats madness....or putting $50,000 into a car just to make it 1 second faster...thats madness....
My fellow Klipschians and I just want to be able to hear a great Guy Movie in the comfort of our media room or living room in their boxers and not be annoyed but surrounding idiots. If we have to spend a little hard earned money just to get a little piece of quite, I think it is worth the ... Madness....lol
Thanks for the tip. how do i find outlaw...just the web site? where do you go for buying used...just look at posts here?
dimentions for new media room

so the viewing distance from the front of the chair (or is it eye) is 1.728 x 68.6 (across dimention (width)? that would be 9.87'? i think i can do that. with that dimention though i would only be able to have 4 chairs across.
