My 4.1's have given me 5-6 years of quality service. Recently the rear channels stopped working. I plugged the front speakers into the rear amp output, no sound. Plugged the rear speakers into the front, got sound. Plugged headphones into the soundcard's rear output, got sound. Then I came here and saw all the problem reports. Now I'm not sure what to do. My options are:
1) Live with 2.1 sound. Cost: $0
2) Use old receiver to power rear channel. Cost: $0.
3) Attempt to disassemble sub and fix amp. Cost: ??
4) Purchase upgraded 5.1 off ebay with cooling fans. $265
5) Get a whole new setup. Seems wasteful since I love the speakers. I haven't seen anything worthwhile in PC audio aside from the Promedias, so I'd probably go with a separate receiver & speakers. $$$
Anyone have any input?
