  1. Drinking and driving is stupid and illegal. The guy was speeding, therefore exhibiting poor judgement and being wreckless with a vehicle.

Getting them 'off' on some technicality is even more stupid.

    I'm done here.

Michael.....with all due respect. You posted the above, yet you're still posting.

I'm against driving drunk - truly driving drunk. Not "drunk" as defined by some machine or any other of several variables that might be interpreted as "drunk".

But you know what I'm opposed to even more? Three words - RUSH TO JUDGEMENT. And IMHO, that's exactly what some here have done and all dwilawyer has, I believe, attempted to point out. And for those that can't find the objectivity in them to see this point, I just pray that none of you or those like you are ever on a jury hearing my case.

And BTW....let me give some of you a clue. Not sure I've ever mentioned this and maybe I shouldn't, but I will after that post from oscarear. My wife is a paralegal and works for a District Attorney. She is responsible for 3 counties and anyone that knows about paralegals know that they, in some respects, know the law more than the attorney does. I've been around her in court and I've seen her in action and believe me, she's very well respected and knows her sh*t. So it's too bad you can't ask her about "corruption" and loose cops and rookie cops and profiling and search & seizure indiscressions and on & on. I'll put it to you this way - she's probably the best friend you can have between you and the police - AND SHE WORKS FOR THE PROSECUTION!!! She believes in justice, but believes in truth more. She will call out an officer for a BS trumpt-up charge in a minute And if she recommends to the DA to not prosecute the charge, 98% of the time he won't. She's seen bail money and drugs "lost". She knows of planted drugs on a speeding stop (3mph over in 60mph zone). You drive a sporty car and look to be 23 or so and a black male - look out. She has a whole different perspective about the justice system and I've been educated as well. But what the heck - we got speaker builders and HT creators and paramedics and whatevers here that seem to have it all figured out. Sheesh......

  2. I thought this was gonna be a thread about that perverse thrill some folks get when they run up and pop some kids' balloon(s).

C'mon......you know the psychology community has come up with a name for this behavior.

Anyhow......OR's various popping corns are good. I'm not much of a fan of ACTII popcorn. I've tried the on-the-ear popcorn and that's ok, but dry. And speaking of dry......remember when those hot air popcorn poppers came out?? Man - the popcorn that came out of those things could suck every bit of moisture out of your mouth!! Every once in a while I'll get a good popping corn and do the old pot on the stove popping routine followed by a generous (drip off the elbows) amount of melted butter. But most of the time it's the convenient microwave bag of popcorn.

BTW - while I firmly believe that there should be a law that forbids ANYONE from cooking popcorn in an office environment unless they make enough for everybody, the wonderful aroma of popcorn pails in comparison to those folks not smart enough to use the "POPCORN" button on a microwave and decide to go to manual overide. The result of which is that stench of burnt popcorn!!

  3. Sheesh......I started this thread and didn't even post to it yesterday. Whassupwitdat?

Monday was the other half of a Baldino's Italian Battalion sub sammich with Lay's original potato chips (nope - could eat just one) and a can of semmup.

Today?? Got hung up in back-to-back meetings and didn't eat. [:(] May have to grab a Coke and munch on a Snickers to get me by.

  4. Here's all the stuff in the section we are trying to describe with a single word or simple phrase.

Three of the categories are photo or video related, five are blog/forum related, three are factoid.

Point is, unfortunately, it's not all about us anymore. This is not a front page link to Forums, so the title we're looking for needs to encompass more than a self-description of the Forum.

So this category is the other stuff, the stuff that makes it tick- so the BACKSTAGE moniker for 'all this other stuff related to Klipsch products' seems to make sense. Someone earlier suggested Klipsch Backstage, I'd simplify it to just BACKSTAGE so again, it's kind of a catch-all category.

This mock-up below features a couple of 'backstage passes' of the type that I make up for our Pilgrims who get really involved in our events.

Of course you think it sounds right, you're just trying to win a T-shirt and some publicity. Man - you shoulda been in sales and not technical support Michael. [;)] [:D]

    My vote is for GROUPIES.

  5. Back when I was a rich man [;)] I had a dedicated 7.1 HT room with a FP system. There was (3) different light circuits all on their own dimmer. The dimmers I used were these:

    http://www.lutron.com/CMS400/pagebuynow.aspx?id=16947

The room was wired such that there was an IR receiver "eye" at the front of the room that relayed the remotes IR commands to the dimmers, the A/V equipment, and the projector. The remote was a Harmony 880. Once setup, I pushed the button associated with the "Watch Movie" icon and the following happened: projector turned on, pre/pro turned on (+12V trigger out turned on both power amps) and set input to DVD player, DVD player turned on, house lights went from full-on to scene 1 (each of the 3 light circuits were set at different dimmer levels for scene 1). The 880 also allowed me to have additional scene levels and command them manually.

The IR distribution stuff was from these folks: http://www.xantech.com/

BTW - there is no A/V equipment that I am aware of that can be commanded via RF. What happens is that an RF module converts the RF signal to an IR output which is sent to an emitter that commands the A/V unit. I considered an RF system due to the location of my A/V gear, but found out that in real life there was no advantage to RF versus IR. YMMV

  6. Just a comment about banana plugs and this is from real life experience.....

I know most on here aren't using large power amps. And by large I mean 200+ watts. However, some are and some will in the future. Please keep in mind that if you've invested in a very high quality power amp that has the ability to handle down to 2ohm loads, you darn near have at your disposal an arc welder. Which means that if you've got your power amp up & running and you let one of those fancy gold (+) banana plugs come into contact with a (-) one, you're in for a treat.

It was a bit of trouble, but back when I was running a 2 & a 5 channel power amp in my system, I spent a rainy with some red & black heat shrink tubing and a heat gun and made sleeves for all (14) banana plug terminated speaker cables. This not only ensured that the metal bodies couldn't come into contact with each other, it also made identifying the polarity of the cables a bit easier.

Oh - and while I like the convenience of, and still use, banana plugs, not all are created equal. My experience has been that the tines (the part of the plug that actually makes contact with the female jack) are the weak link. If you look closely at the tines you might see that they aren't uniform in how much they project or bow outward. This results in uneven pressure when inserted and in some cases, just plain sloppy connection.

  7. IF you get a Emotiva make sure you have a sturdy, very sturdy rack. That sucker weighs 70lbs plus and thats the XPA 3. I don't know what the XPA 5 weighs. Also, you can get one and if you don't like it you have 30 days to send it back. Good luck hunting and tell use how it turns out.

    LOL......70 pounds. Pa-shaw.......

Ask frzninvt what his Sherbourne 7/2100A weighs (I know 'cause I had one of them sucka's and it may be the reason my back still hurts to this day). [:o]

  8. "and it is perfectly legal"

    Come on now.

From my understanding - yes. In California and several other states, "lane splitting" is legal. The trouble is: a) not many automobile drivers know this and respect the law, B) car drivers don't pay attention to the fact that a motorcyclist might be lane-splitting, c) some motorcyclists tend to lane-split at a speed that is too fast which leads to d) automobile drivers perceiving that the motorcyclist is doing something illegal and moving over on him/her. CRUNCH!

I've split lanes a few times and while it's a great way to move through grid-locked traffic, it can be quite nerve-racking for you're constantly scanning up ahead and looking for tell-tail signs of someone changing lanes or moving over on you. And I know that there are those out there that get mad as he!! when they see some motorcyclist come by them and they're sitting still in traffic. And for the life of me, I don't understand it for the last time I looked, the motorcycle dealer I got my bike from would've taken their money just as easily as they did mine. [;)]

BTW - I was talking to a friend of mine this past weekend about this article. He works as a civilian on Fort Stewart (home of the 3rd I.D.) and said that he knew that there was one or two MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) courses taught a week on base. For those in the know - that's a lot.

  9. You know, I hate to admit this, but I will.

The Halo did sound very nice on the Heresy's and much better than the others. However, when I got those hooked up to my Corns (via B&K pre/pro), I never got the Corns to sound like what I thought they should sound like. BUT, I passed it off as me just being finicky or summat. Then, several months later, I visit Chris Robinson (when he still lived in Hilton Head) to listen to his Danley big mo'fo' sub and while there he lets me hear his Corns on a ???? tube amp and I'm like WTHey??? Where's all that bass coming from? Seriously - I didn't hear anything like that from my Corns. And after that, I was convinced that I had gotten the wrong amp for my Corns or that the amp & pre/pro combination wasn't good or whatever. The bottom line was that I was never really satisfied.

Fast forward to a year or so ago and me purchasing a new receiver. And since finances and no more HT dictate price, I buy a run-of-the-mill B stock Denon with 85 watts/channel. I hook it up to my Corns in my minimalist 2.1 system and was just amazed at the sound. You know, the kind of change in sound that even the wife notices. Was it the same or better than what I heard at Chris' place? Nope - but it came darn close especially in the areas of bass and upper-mid smoothness. And then I noticed that my Sub12 wasn't on and was blown away. Seriously, my Corns have never sounded like they do now.

  10. This is from an e-Newsletter from Lee Parks. For those not in the know, Lee was a top-level professional motorcycle roadracer who now does roadracing schools as well as motorcycle skills training. He's also got a web-based motorcycle stuff business. Anyhow, here is a quote from his recent newlsetter:

Just when it seemed we couldn't get any busier I am proud to announce that the United States Marine Corps hired Total Control Training to coach 400 marines in California as a test for bringing the program national. With more marines being killed in motorcycle accidents coming back from Iraq than killed in combat in Iraq, the importance of this decision could not have been more timely. And the results have been nothing short of spectacular. After Action Reports have consistently rated Total Control as the best motorcycle training course the riders have ever participated in and we have even begun training some of them to become instructors.

I have to assume that is true for Lee is a very reputable guy. Man - that is a very scarey statistic.

  11. Good for you! As you might remember, Parasound was one of the amps I auditioned at Read Brothers Stereo. I bought the Halo 5 x 125W and spent well over what you did. When was the last time you were at Read Brothers? That was such a cool place.

BTW - along the same line, I bought a current model refurbished Denon stereo receiver for $165 (including shipping) and that unit retails for $399. The one I got was dropped-shipped from New Jersey (which leads me to believe it came directly from Denon) and looks like it was never touched.

  12. I won't be eating lunch until I get to work at 4:30 . I'll probably start out with some she crab soup followed by a salad of some sort then who knows grouper , flounder , salmon , filet mignon , ribeye , NY strip ? I allready know what desert is going to be . A sweet bisquit topped with maccerated peaches , Grand Marnier cream sauce and fresh whipped cream . Same dessert as yesterday .

    You SUCK!!!!!!!

And you're disqualified seeings how you work at Magnolia's in downtown Charleston, SC (how was that for free advertising??)

Seriously though......if any of you are ever in Charleston, do yourself a favor and try a meal at Magnolia's - it's awesome food.

And the wait staff ain't bad either. [;)]

  13. I think this is great advise for people not wanting to carry guns, but I have seen lots on guys on COPS take the spray and keep beating the officer.

You may be right, but even a leathally placed shot can take minutes to actually incapacitate a determined assailant.

Just think, you provide your wife with a cute little stainless Walther ppk/s .380 (I had one and loved it, that's why I mentioned it), give her all the SA training you can find, teach her to shoot like Annie Oakley, and give her all the confidence in the world.

Now one night while she's walking across the parking lot leaving work, a man hopped up on Meth, thinks that your wife's car was the one owned by the drug dealer that is really a cop (in his mind), and he's got to neutralize the threat to his freedom to move about.

    (snip)

Now, same situation, only this time she uses Pepper spray. Statistics have proven that 98% of all human beings cannot overcome the immediate eye clamp, after being sprayed with pepper spray. Even though he may fight through it, there will be time for her to disengage, retreat and hopefully gather witnesses and a possibility to call re-inforcements.

    (snip)

Or to find someone who has a gun that can finish him off! [:o] [:P]

I'd like to chime in with another angle. I own a couple of guns - a Ruger 7mm-08 with a Nikon scope and a Browning 12ga pump. As you might expect, they're mostly for hunting although I enjoy competition target shooting with the Ruger (I'll never make any sniper team fer sure, but I try). I've shot many times my Dad's S&W .357 and various handguns of buddies whenever I'm out at the range. The wife has shot guns for many years starting when her Dad took her hunting. Honestly, she's a better shooter than me - especially with the Ruger. Which is why I've told many folks that asking her for a head start would prove fruitless. Anyhow.......

I haven't and will probably never carry a handgun simply 'cause I don't ever see myself wanting to be that dedicated to the proficient use of one. However, I'm glad that there are folks I know and folks that I don't know, who are "packing" and just may well be the saving grace I need should that need arise.

As for dying....like Mr. Deneen, I have no fear of dying. If I did I wouldn't ride motorcycles.

    Great thread BTW. [Y]

  14. Most all warranties are a licence to scam, it doesn't matter what industry it pertains to.

Are you trying to imply Michael that it is a coincidence that whenever you go to any major US city and look at the name at the top of the tallest/prettiest buildings it's either: a) and insurance company or B) a bank????

    Tom

  15. I took it as T&A also. Of course I like other parts too.

    There are other parts??????

Of course they have other "parts". Like brains & personalities.

Good grief.....I get so sick & tired of women being viewed like this - AND ON THIS FORUM NO LESS!!

    Tom

  16. Well.....FWIW, I too have felt a bit put-off by someone stating that low or no feedback bidders not accepted. I can see it from the sellers perspective. However it does make me feel like, "What?? Am I or my money not as good as the next guy's?" Like plummer, I haven't bought too many items off eBay and in some cases went directly to a sellers store.

    Tom

Well, now the plot thickens, I had placed the items on my watch list from the get go. I noticed now that not only is there a single $50.00 bid on the remote, there is now a single bid on the non functioning pro-logic unit, for,,,, you guessed it $50.00. And to top it off, this bidder has a ZERO feedback. I have a feeling this clown is listing his items for sale, waiting a short time and then placing bids on other ebay accounts that he or friends have, to drive the price up from the begining. To me this would be Shill bidding, and since you can no longer view who the parties are that are bidding, unless your the seller, you cannot bail on a product that some clown is trying to drive his own price up.

Even if he gets no more bids, and has to pay the seller fees, it's minimal at a $50.00 starting price. He's guaranteeing to get at least 1/2 of new price just by doing so, even if there is only one more bidder upping the bid by One dollar.

I wish I could verify mu suspicions here.

I'm sorry plummer....I was just trying to be funny by posting that bid for those remotes.

    Just kiddin'......just kiddin'.

BTW - most of the items I've bought off eBay have been a Buy It Now thing. If the price was something I thought was fair, I just bought the silly thing versus trying to win a bid.

    Tom

  17. If it is not too late, ...... are you able to decoupple the preamp from the amp? in other words, use it for a power amp, say in the HT to take the load off the AVR for the main speakers..... that is providing that it has pre IN jacks.

Just a thought as I also have a hard time letting go of old gear until the magic smoke comes out that is!

In short - yup, too late. Trash man done come & gone.

I must admit that it was tough to drop in the trash can a pristine looking piece of gear, but I just had to remind myself that it no longer wanted to look at me, so why should I look at it. LOL.....
