cathouse

i have recently been given two 8" radioshack subwoofers approx. 10 years old. i know virtually nothing about how to go about using them. my situation is as follows: i would like to use these in my shop, a wood shop. my reciever (yamaha htr-5940) is located in the office, my speakers are located in the shop approx. 40' away from the receiver. being a woodworker i can build the box, but that's all i know, as for dimensions, powered ,unpowered,crossover, wiring, etc. i have no idea!! i would appreciate any advice or instruction, or pointing me in the right direction for instruction would be greatly appriciated. thanks
