  1. It's not going to make that much difference wood, carpet or cement. Position of the sub in the room is the key factor.
  2. SVS will produce some great lows below 25hz. I just got mine, and I couldn't be more pleased. http://www.svsound.com/index.cfm
  3. 1 - subs can come later, when you're ready for 'punch' in your music, and 'rumble' in your HT 2 - it seems like a good match, though I went with the JBL fronts and the rest klipsch because I thought the JBL stadiums sounded better. They also mixed well with the klipsch synergy's 3 - Receiver is great, I have the 1015tx. 4 - go with atleast 16 gauge wiring for your speakers, and bi-wire the klipsch's. as far as cables go, go with your budget. you don't need to pay 'monster' prices to get good performance. 5 - go with a good surge protector / line conditioner, it makes a very noticeable difference
  4. No one else have some input on the subject?
  5. Two more days (Tuesday) and my SVS will arrive.
  6. I've always surge protected my equipment, but I have only recently become aware of the benefits of a line conditioner. After doing some research on what is available, it became apparent there are far too many options available to make an easy decision. So I picked up a $50 Acoustic Research line conditioner / surge protector not wanting to risk a big purchase price without more knowledge on the best value for my dollar. It was immediately evident how a line conditioner helps your home theater, so now I'm even more curious if spending more money for what in theory would be a better one is beneficial at this point. So my questions are: 1 - How much is too much to spend on a line conditioner / surge protector before you're buying into the hype. 2 - My Acoustic Research appears to be a great value. Is it? Or am I risking too much sticking with an off brand, and in this case is Monster an overpriced brand?
  7. You're going to think less of me now... JBL Venue Stadiums for the fronts, Klipsch Synergy series on the center/surrounds. I know you should match speakers whenever possible, but JBL stadiums sounded so much better to me than any of the Synergy floor standers. But the JBL center channel sucked and it turns out the synergy center blends well with the stadiums. I tried the whole synergy lineup, but the JBL's were so much clearer. I eventually ended up with Klipsch all around save for the floorstanders and now my sub. My current sub (Infinity BU-120) got me through the last 7 years and it was time to upgrade along with the rest of my gear. I spent the last three/four months putting this together on a budget I could handle, when the WAF finally went my way.
  8. I ended up going with the SVS 20-39 PCi. I ordered it last night. Now I have to pass the time... [:|]
  9. I was this close to getting the Klipsch RW-12d, but I kept reading blurbs from others about SVS. The more I read, the better it gets. What do you recommend, and why over an SVS? Thanks!
  10. It's been a tough question that I've been unable to find a definitive answer to on the web. The reason I'm curious about it is because I'm currently looking to upgrade my sub and my current one has rear ports (with a downfiring driver). When moved closer to the wall I get more bass, but if I turn the ports another direction, and the sub remains in the exact same location I lose a bit of bass. So I became concerned this would make a difference. The two subs I'm most interested in right now are both front firing, and have the ports in front as well (RW-12d, and Velodyne DPS-12). Along with that, I have a shag rug in my HT room and with the ports pretty much shooting into the floor with these two subs, will the carpet affect performance? Thanks for the input. Brian
  11. Hi, I'm curious to know if the location of the port on a subwoofer makes a difference in the bass. Rear, front, bottom, cornerport? Is the only thing that matters is where the sub is located within the room, or does the direction of the port make a difference as well? Thanks!
