  1. Thanks for your thoughts, I have heard the vibration in both the S2's and it only occurs during a severe bass signal - and only for a few seconds. The woofers seem alright in their movement. If you would be so kind, could you please explain how to pull out the woofer for inspection. Do I simply undo the hex screws at the front? Are they tightened to a specifc torque? Can this be done safely? At the moment, with the S2's set to small - it all sounds good. The Sony op guide suggests that all speakers are set to large and this is why I set them like this, the auto calibration function also set them all to large. Would also appreciate your views on the centre speaker - should it be set to large? One final thought, could I have damaged them by setting them to high? The quality sounds great and the unit has never exceeded their 100w capacity.
  2. Would appreciate some advice; I have a F2 system - two F2's, one C2, two S2's and a 12 sub. Have recently noticed that during a high bass signal such as in a war film with explosions etc that the two surround (S2's) actually generate an internal vibration. At first I thought it was just the panel moving but took them down, put my ear close by and could detect it. It clearly only occurs during very deep bass and by instructing the system to consider them as "small" it effectively re-directs the bass signals away from them and this has virtually stopped the effect. Anyone encounter this? Are the surround speakers not designed to handle deep bass? I have also repeated the experiment with just music and the vibration is back when a deep bass note is struck. It does not sound distorted - just a separate vibration from inside the speaker. My Sony DA1200ES is rated for 100w per channel and I have never been able to peak them - its just that the vibration is rather annoying at times and disappointing.
  3. Have just purchased a 5.1 system of Synergy F2 speakers and they are absolutely fantastic. This is driven by a Sony receiver STRDA 1200ES with a auto calibration microphone. Sony recommends using the auto cal function but it told me that 5 of the 6 speakers were out of phase. Have tripple checked the cables and they are correct. Upon reversing the connection the test now indicated that everything was in phase. This is very strange - do the F2's come wired as out of phase? Should I leave them wired to suit the test? Can the room cause this effect? Any comments would be appreciated.
