  1. Hi James! quote: Originally posted by James D McCall: Beautiful cornwalls! Really nice looking system...the biggest, baddest dang pair of headphones I've EVER seen! You Go!!! -disco betty Laugh...they do resemble giant headphones don't they? It is really a miracle my cats have not scratched the covers as yet. However, I prefer the speakers with the covers on. The 15" woofer is just too intimidating to look at while listening to music. One thing I don't like is the use of velcro to attach the speaker covers though. Mine is falling off and the grill cloth is also fraying at the seams. As such, I just leave the covers on permanently. Weiming.
  2. Hi stormin, quote: Originally posted by stormin: Very nice Weiming. How do the paraglows do on the bottom end? Looking at building a pair myself. Well, I have no complaints whatsover about the bottom end of the Pglows. I actually prefer them to my old YBA amp. It has more bloom, body and weight and sounds oh so good...feels chocolate syrup flowing through my body(not sure how appropriate this is though ) The Pglows are really easy to build and you can tweak them to your heart's content! Mine is stock and the sound is already d*mn good. I don't think you will regret building them. Plus the support is excellent like the Klipsch forum. Weiming.
  3. Hi Al, quote: Originally posted by Al Klappenberger: Weiming, I am courious about what looks like sound absorbing pannels on the right and left wall. How come? Did they do anyhting for the sound? Al K. Well, because my two side walls are pure concrete and plus the fact that my room is only 9 feet wide, it is very "live"; lots of ringing and echoing when I clap my hands. The egg crates were painted to match my ceiling to act as diffusors. Attached to the crates is a layer of polyester batting to help absorb some excessive bass energy due to the dimensions of my room. Thing is that when I put them up, it was for my old pair of speakers and it did work. I assume it works for the Cornwalls too as I am too lazy to remove them Weiming.
  4. Hi there, quote: Originally posted by sunnysal: very pretty! you sit kind of close to those cornwalls, don´t you!!!??? with that tube rig it must sound vert "sweet"...regards, tony No choice as my study area is behind the sofa along with my workstation and bed Hopefully when I shift to my own place next time, I can fully utilize the Cornwalls to the best of their abilities. Actually, I think it will sound even better once I start modifying the amps and pre-amps. Got a long list of mods to carry out! Also planning on building Al K.'s Cornwall crossovers at a future time. But at the moment, I am pretty satisfied with the sound. Weiming.
  5. Just to share with all fellow Klipsch owners. 6. Hey TheEvan, I have never used a SME 3009 before, so I can't comment on the repair, but I think it should be no problem. You are referring to the headshell leads correct? If you do not wish to repair and decide to purchase new, Music Direct (www.amusicdirect.com) do sell these 4 coloured leads. The SP-10 is a real monster of a TT. I think there was a report on it many years back when it was released that it could actually support the weight of a man while spinning. Is yours the SP-10 MK II with the external power supply? If you perceive that the SP-10/SME combo is much better than your Rega, you should get it fixed The SP-25 is the smallest in the SP family. You can find out more about these TTs at http://mark.kouts.home.mindspring.com/turntables/turntables.html Only problem I can see is that Technics no longer makes any spare parts for these TTs. But they are solidly built and with a service manual, one can do repairs easily. My TT setup is a Shure Vx15VMR MM cartridge attached to a Technics EPA-500 tonearm. With this setup, my CD collection is just collecting dust while my LP collection is constantly growing Hope this helps! Weiming. quote: Originally posted by TheEvan: I'm also interested in your SP-25 table. I've got an SP-10 that has been in storage for years. Why? Because I broke one of the hair-thin leads coming out of the SME 3009 arm when changing a cartridge. Rather than take it to a solder-head to make the repair, I put it away and brought out my Rega Planar 3. Anyway, I think the SP-10/SME sounds noticeably better than the Rega setup. My audiophile friends think my ears are stuck. Oh well. I know good sound when I hear it and i pay no attention to audiophile nonsense blather! Anyway, I know the 25 & 10 are similar. Any comments, tips, warnings...??
  7. Hey joemcten, Thanks...I am finally qualified to post here Regarding the Bottlehead pre, I finished it only a week ago (built it together with my girlfriend) and truth be told, except for a noisey tube which was sent to me and the particular power up sequence one has to follow, the little pre smoked my french-made $$$ SS pre-amp in every department except for construction(it uses an all aluminium brushed casing) and flexibility(inputs galore, balanced in/out, headphone input, remote control). I now believe that simple is better and you can't get any simpler than the Foreplay. Circuit is incredibly easy so you can actually tweak to your heart's content to achieve the sound you want. Also, the support forum there reminds me of the Klipsch forum. Not many manufacturers have this outlet for interaction between their customers. For US$99, you just can't lose. Weiming. quote: Originally posted by joemcten: Congrats on the Cornwalls and welcome to the fold. What do you think of your Bottlehead pre? I will be interested in hearing the report on your Bottlehead mono's. Keep us posted. Joe
  8. Hi mdeneen, They haven't compensated me yet as investigations are still ongoing. I think they might be trying to shift blame to the packing company My Cornwall Is were built in 1981 and bear the serial numbers 29W671/2. Bought it from one of the members here, a cpurvis. Only caveat is that these speakers are really HUUUGE. Most of my walking space behind my system is taken up by them. They dwarf even my 29" TV! Weiming. quote: Originally posted by mdeneen: Hey - congrats! Sounds like a fantastic rig you got there. Did UPS give you any money as compensation? What age your your Cornwalls? mdeneen
  9. Hi all! Just wanted to share my joy Finally got my Cornwall Is that arrived DOA up and running! Did the repairs to the crossovers after UPS came, took pictures and I received written permission to repair the speakers. Man...the sound of these speakers are unbelievable! They are so dynamic! I can't wait to run them with my Bottlehead Paraglows with cobalt output trannies when I finish them! Currently running them through a YBA power amp with a Bottlehead Foreplay. Source is a Technics SP-25 TT. Listening to Rick Ashley at the moment and I feel as if I am having a private concert with him! OK, enough raving and ranting now...back to the music! Glad to be finally a proud owner of a legendary pair of Klipsch speakers after my many months of lurking! Weiming.
  10. Hey Dan-OH! The shipping charges were a killer and that is why I was shocked to see the inside of the Cornwalls. I did see a pair before in a 2nd hand dealer shop, but the guy was asking US$2300 for them! Condition was waaaay worse than the pair I have at hand now. Anyway, UPS is coming over tomorrow to take pictures of the damages done. Do I have a say in how much I can ask for in compensation? Weiming.
  11. Hi mdeneen, I will call UPS later today and explain my situation to them. Thank god the speakers were insured. The damage done to the crossovers are broken connections between the capacitors and the inductors. Easy to fix, but it is the inconvenience caused that really gets to me. Well, it could have been worse Looking on the bright side, at least I will have some first hand experience in fixing my first speaker crossover, especially a legendary Klipsch Cornwall I! Thanks for the advice again! Weiming.
  12. Hi all, *Sob* I need some advice here. I just received my Cornwalls I got from Ebay. They were shipped via UPS to me in Singapore. On hooking them up, there was no sound except from the two woofers. On opening up the rear panel, I saw that the large inductors (Type B XOver) had dropped off their mounting and were dangling around. What I would like to know is whether I can claim damages from UPS for their handling. I don't know what to do right now.... BTW, the interior was fine prior to shipping as the previous owner provided very good pics of the inside. Weiming.
