  1. the problem started happening about a month before my warranty expired. I didn't think it was a speaker problem at first, and it took me a while to nail it down. I got referred to customer service Asia who said out of warranty bad luck. Eventually they referred me to a repair centre here in Australia, and I had to contact them myself. So at this point I am on my own. It was going to cost me $100 + postage to get fixed. So basically it was about the same price to go and buy a new set. My beef is that this is a common problem due to a bad part, failed within the warranty, and should be fixed by Klipsch at their cost. Edit: here is my blog post on the repairing if anyone is interested in how to do this. Note it is all based on info garnered from the helpful people in these forums.
  2. I completely agree demaX. It could happen anywhere. My beef is with customer service. The lack of acknowledgement of the problem by Klipsch, and basically saying "you are on your own".
  3. Actually, mine worked for about a month, and thne started experiencing problems again. Fixed it again, and one month later same again. I have ditched my Klipsch, and won't be buying them again, nor will I be buying Jamo again in protest at the lack of acknowledgement and resolution of the problem.
  4. Time for an update for everyone. I got sent the details of a local tech contact in Australia to either fix or "trade-in" my faulty speakers. The price to fix is about 70% of a new pair. The price to "trade in" is about 60% of a new pair. I have had no-one acknowledge that this is a design fault. Paying this much to have an obvious design fault repaired is ridiculous. I am yet to find 1 person in Australia who has a set of these speakers that hasn't had trouble. And when you read user feedback on the web more and more stories of people who have owned these for 6 months are cropping up with problems. And the solutions available for fix/trade-in are stupidly expensive. Amy I want to thank you for trying to get me help, but the help has unfortunately been not acceptable. I am going to try and fix it myself, and as I mentioned before I will not be buying Klipsch or jamo ever again. This has left a very sour taste in my mouth.
  5. Thanks Amy. Understand where you are coming from. For those of us in far-off places this is the closest thing we have to first level support without ringing up huge phone bills. Maybe a sticky in the forums with support contact information for overseas people (other than phone contacts) would be a big step forward. Update re my support job. It has made it through to my regional support person, who has informed me that there is no end-user RMA, only distributor RMA. They have said they will find out what my options are.
  6. Thanks Amy. I will send an email. I dug out my purchase date. 25 Jan 2006. So it went pear shaped like weeks out of warranty. Mind you from Pilgrim's experience it wouldn't matter if I found it before hand.
  7. Definitely looks that way George. Like you, my replacement set of speakers will be Logitech and not Klipsch. And now they own Jamo - I won't be going anywhere near them again either with my my stereo system upgrade.
  8. I bought mine from an Australian retailer, not Ebay. Because they are out of warranty by 2 months Klipsch are NOT working with me. If this is a common problem, and it appears to be, they should be offering a part replacement on the dodgy component for ALL owners. Come on Klipsch - Look at the number of people with these problems.... do you still think it is an ISOLATED problem
  9. Thanks Amy. Given I am 2 months out of warranty, there won't be any help from the retailer. You don't pay this kind of money for pc speakers to have them die 2 months out of warranty. And I know too many people with the same problem. 3 people, 4 pairs, and ALL of them have the same problem, and then there are all the people in the forums with the same problem. This is quite obviously a COMMON defect. When I had a video card die 2 months out of warranty (Hightech - HIS) the manufacturer replaced it as there was an obvious common problem. Sad to see that Klipsch doesn't take the same approach. Klipsch now has to go on my "DO NOT BUY" list.
  10. Amy, what is the warranty length on new units, and what do I do in Australia ? These speakers are great sounding, but if the build quality is sub standard causing this, or there is some inherent engineering flaw causing this, I would be hesitant to buy klipsch again. Particularly with how expensive they are over here. Edit: I have checked my email logs and I bought these around late Jan or Early Feb 2006. Still searching for the receipt.
  11. I just started having this problem on my speakers also. They have been great (apart from the wierd static on volume adjustment), but they just cut-out randomly. I power off and power on and they work a charm again. I first thought it was my computer, but I have tried it on another one, and same problem. I mentioned it over lunch today with a friend of mine, and he looked surprised and mentioned he too has the exact same problem !! Mine are out of warranty too, they are approx 15 months old. Are we still sure this problem isn't widespread ?
