  1. Thank you. The 60's HK..would that be a citation II or a IV? The Citation II has an output rating of 60w a channel. Pretty astounding for a tube-amp! gettting expensive too, but considering what you can get for the same buck in the store nowadays ($ 1000), it could be well worth the money. The beauty of vintage (apart from the sound) is that you are in fact earning money as you listen!
  2. First of all: thank you for a great forum. I am a new member from Norway, but I have had the pleasure of harvesting knowledge from this forum for a few months now without signing up. There seems to be a good spirit of friendship in here, not otherwise found readily. I am not a Klipsch-buff. I have never owned a pair (Looking for a pair of cornwalls, though - hard to come by over here). The reason i found this forum in the first place was a trip that i took to a local marked half a year ago, where I found the HK 730 receiver. It was an inriguing piece of machinery, 30$ the asking price. As usual in the outdoor/fleamarket department, a $5 off was accepted. Gladly I picked the receiver up, packed in 3 grocery-bags and to my surprise (it is pretty slim) finding it heavy enough to have the plastic cutting into my fingers. So I had to carry it like a baby into the subway (yeah-yeah..I am an office worker). I came home, excitedly hooking it up to my Rega Planar III and my Jensen LS-6 speakers (huge 3-way, crotch high, 3-way, 4-speaker doghouses with 15'' woofers (fleamarket find - hard to find info on..)) I powered it on - and wow! This is the most beautiful piece of vintage receiver ever! The green lights shining through that black faceplate! And the funny dancing reception-meter on the left! I have seen the 930, but it has none of the elegance and simplicity that the 730 has. The all-black top of and the silver bottom of the 730 is industrial design at its finest. And the phono-section on this one is not lacking in any way. Dry and crisp, in-the-room voices and crystal-clear reception - even without attaching an antennae. What more can one want? It sells for almost 400$ at a swedish vintage dealership now! And I opened a couple of beers, then a few more. Listening to Marley, Dylan, misc. jazz, etc, and I was not as much asthonished as Transfixed by the mellow, sweet and punchy sound of it all. Hours passed like minutes. It kept pumping out the sweetest mids and the deepest lows. I searched the web for it and found that this piece is somewhat famous among the followers of the klipsch/horns movement. Sounds great on my big boxes to, I have to say. I can turn this receiver all the way up without distortion. The only unusual thing happening is that the glasses inside my glass-doored shelf start ratteling and moving simultaneously to the left - it is a mystery why the move Towards the speakers and not away) and that the girlfriend comes rushing in, turning down the volume and speaking in a hushed voice about the neighbours (across the street!). Beautiful. I know allready that I will never part with this receiver. I am looking for another one - just in case. But back to earth: As I turn up the volume, the bass can get boomy. I think it could be a matter of the power-hungry speakers vs. the 2x45 watt receiver. I might need more wattage to control these beasts. The 730 has pre-outs and pre-ins, and can therefore be used as a preamplifier. So I am pondering finding a suitable power-amp to go with it. Naturally I have been looking at the HK Citation series first. I have a Citation Signature 2.1 on hand for 300$. (with the pre HK 2.0, which I don't need) It is a 5-channel power-amp, but I figure I could use 2 of the channels only, or "bi-amp" my speakers, using one channel for the mids&highs and one for the bass on each side, making use of four of the 100w channels... So my question(s) 1: anyone familiar with the use of the 730 as a preamp? Any suggestions as to how this works, or what equipment would be suitable? 2. Anyone familiar with using a 5-channel amp to bi-amp speakers? A good idea? Bad? 3. Anyone have any info on the Jensen LS-6 ? Too many questions, I know.
