  1. get the 81's, the soundstage it produces is much larger but it depends on placement. If they are for rears thats good, side surrounds it may be more beneficial to get the actual surrounds.

There's no place to put speakers behind the sitting area so it will be directly to the sides. That's why I was leaning more towards the surrounds but that is a steal for the 81s

  2. The next post I want to read from you is that you picked them up and they sound awesome. I have a standing creed that I buy every pair of RB 5's for under $200 if they're in good shape and I would add to that 81's for $300 or under in good shape, so get on it.

    roger that
  3. Grab the 81's and if it doesn't work out, you can get out of them clean or make some money. I wouldn't wait.

Wish they were series II so they would match but I guess beggers can't be choosers haha

  4. IMHO, 81's for 300 is a great deal, but some of this depends on placement.

The place we're at right now is very small but I still enjoy cranking em up when the wife is not home. The room is 12x16 but I have spots for bookshelves or surrounds.

There's no room behind the sitting area so they would have to go directly to the sides of where you'd sit.

  5. Just got my RF-7II and RC-64II and don't have the funds for RS-62IIs right now. My local Craigslist has a set of RB-81s for $300 and there's a set of RS-41IIs for $295 obo. What would be the better choice? It will be used mainly for movies. Music I'll just use the fronts.

  6. Hmm that is very interesting. I just took a look at my serial numbers and I could not find a "B" on them at all. So could this mean I got A-stock cherry veneer?

I'm pretty sure if they are B stock the serial number will have a B before the #. Looks like you may have A stock. I've never owned a pair of B stock so I'm not 100% but maybe someone else can chime in.

I remeber ASD saying that they send A stock if they don't have the matching center if someone ordered the set on ebay. Looks like they may have given you A stock without telling you. Could be a good or bad thing dependng on what you really wanted.

  7. another

Those look beautiful brotha! Glad you finally got 'em. Just to clairify, those are A-stock cherry veneer correct?

They are indeed A stock. I was surprised at how dark they were too. I immediately looked at the serial numbers for a "B" but there isn't. I'm going to get some cherry picture frames and try to tie the colors together somehow. Eventually I'll get a cherry stand but it's not in the budget right now.

  8. Nevermind just called RL thinking id get an automated service, actual person answered and midnight on a friday and was very happy to help me. gave her the web pro number she said they dont work sometimes....looked it up withmy name and address she gave me the REAL number and said that it has a scheduled delivery of 2-6 between 12-5PM...........AWESOME

Nice! I'm sure you're as anxious as I am. Can't wait! The wife might kill me when she sees them so if you don't see any posts from me next week start investigating. haha

  9. My Klipsch Icon W-35 speakers from Vann's arrived double boxed. Here's the "kicker;" The UPS guy backed into my driveway, opened the rear of the truck, handed me the clipboard, and literally pushed the speakers off of the truck with his foot. The bottom of the speakers landed in my garage with the top leaning against the bumper. I was shocked!!! He did this because he was in a hurry, but I made him stand there while I unboxed them before I would sign for it.

    Thankfully, they were fine.

Wow I would have been pissed. Even though they ended up being okay I would have called and complained. That's just ridiculous!

  10. Schwa that sucks. Were the speakers okay or did they get damaged? It really sucks how we have to worry about something showing up damaged from a DELIVERY comapny. That is their job! That's all they do and yet they still throw people's stuff around. Happened to my RF-83s and an expensive crankshaft.

  11. I'm a little nervous because my RC-64ii is being sent through ups. Hope it doesn't get beat up!

I don't how vann's boxes their stuff, ( I'm presuming pretty well ) but I'm sure it'll get there in one piece. ASD put my rc-64 box inside a double padded box and everything was fine when I opened it. The outside box was a little rough, but it didn't have any holes that poked in or anything like that.

Yeah Vanns has always double boxed everything I have got through them. Should be fine. A1UC said his showed up with minor damage but they gave him $200 back. We shall see in the near future

  12. Not only would it have sucked, but it's honestly kind of sketchy. I don't understand how a business can operate not knowing what their customers are being sent. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with my particular outcome, however, I might not of been if it went the opposite way and especially so if I hadn't been properly informed a switch of product.

Yeah it did seem sketchy. I'm glad it ended up working out for you! I wanted the darker bstock like you got but didn't want to risk ending up with a mismatched set.

  13. I paid $2500 for all three shipped From ASD

I know I saw a previous post where you said that. I said that to ASD and they said they had tons of the bstock when they were selling for that price. It has gone up since you got yours. Also I asked today if they had any bstock rc-64ii in stock and they said no. I said a forum member just received a bstock 64 from you guys and they said "he thinks he got bstock but he got astock" however he did indeed get bstock. Not really sure what's going on with them so I just went through Vanns.

I must of gotten one of the last b-stock cherry RC-64's.

Probably. The thing that sucked about that is that they didn't even know what you were going to get. Kinda left you guessing

  14. I got quoted less than 3k from sound distributors and vanns matched it.

How much less than $3K (feel free to PM me if you don't want to post here)?

I'm not in the market just yet, but I'd like to get a feel for the actual "street" price before I pull the trigger.

I'm curious too. Also, how long ago?

  15. I could have gotten RF-7ii bstock and RC-64ii astock from asd for $2700. They say they don't have any more bstock centers so I would have ended up with a mismatched set of speakers. May not matter to some but does to me. It was worth the extra $300 in my eyes to get all matching a stock. If they would have had all bstock in stock I would have done that but they said they don't so it is what it is.
