  1. I think what he's looking for is most bang for the buck. Based on the three he put up his budget is in the $1500 range. The other is he's looking for an HT receiver which would be a good upconverter for his TV and sound system. I agree with what's been said about the higher end Denon's, Marantz, etc...that they can deliver a better sound but you'll compromise budget. And IMHO, the difference in sound isn't worth the added $$$. Onkyo 875 is still the clear winner, again IMHO, sitting at $1000 with the Reon chip.
  2. Sun City is out near where my gf parents live...know that area of Georgetown well. Anyways... Price taken out and all three are the same...the Reon processor still wins. Denon is Faroudja (3800)...they use the Reon in their higher end lines Yamaha uses Anchor Bay Technologies (ABT 1010)...while I would actually say ABT is on par with Reon the ABT 1010 is not. So, hands down...Onkyo...price is just the icing.
  3. I looked at these same three units when building out my media room. The Onkyo 875 won it for me due to price ($1000) and the better video processor (HQV Reon-VX.) Here's a side by side compare of the denon and onkyo: http://www.theosfiles.com/zzz/receiver_compare_875_vs_3808CI.html
  4. kharmondds Now is the best time to think about getting 1080p front projector especially in a room the size you have. I will recommend two Sanyo PLV-Z2000 (can be had for $1695 from B&H) or the Panasonic AE2000U (little pricier at $2695.) Both can give you a great picture but for frugalness sakes I'd lean heavily to the Sanyo. As far as screens go you can go the DIY route to save money (and if you're comfortable/handy) or buy one. One place I recommend is Screen Innovations and their Reference series screens ($1695 for 110".) So for about $3400 you can have a 1080p 110" video setup for what it would cost to buy a ~ 60" plasma/lcd. Also, keep in mind the accustics and treatment needed. You can build some good accutics treatments with 1x1's, OwenCornings insulation, and fabric. Additioninally, if you build some soffits into the room you can add bass traps so you don't get that boomy feel. Anyways...here are a couple good sites for reading up on projectors: www.projectorcentral.com www.projectorreviews.com www.siscreens.com
  5. If the TV was in the room then yes I could. However, I have a dedicated theatre room with a projector. I'm trying to figure out how to place the center (shelf or stand.) Thanks for finding that stand...but after looking at it it's really not what I was expecting. I don't want a TV stand sitting in front the screen.
  6. Thanks guys but not what I'm looking for... Anyone else?
  7. Made my choice...another $400 to get 7.1 is worth the try. Worse case it's overkill and I sell the two extra speakers or use them for another room.
  8. Where can I get a stand similar to this: http://www.hometheatermag.com/images/archivesart/1007kli.1.jpg ??? I've searched racksandstands with nothing that would fit the RC-64. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  9. 5.1 at $2100 or 7.1 at $2500... So there are two camps of thought, $400 delta, and loads of doubt from me. Wish I could test both prior to buying.
  10. I'm guessing most are right with sticking to the 5.1 system. There is such a thing as overkill and really no need to stop my heart when watching the opening scenes of say Saving Private Ryan [H] I'll probably look at getting some more speakers for the living room setup to go with my flat panel.
  11. So you don't think I should go 7.1 and not get speakers for the rear? If I did would I just get a couple more RS-62's? This setup would have me at 2117.60 (no tax or shipping charges)
  12. I have a dedicated media room in my new home. It's wired for 7.1 and the dimensions are 14 x 16. To boot I have a 60% discount where I work to get Klipsch speakers. My budget is around 2-2500 for speakers. I have no other components yet so it's a clean slate. What are the suggestions to get for this room to give me the most bang for the buck?
