  1. not sure whether you are asking about the fronts or the backs. the KHC-6 Synergy Series Ceiling speakers I have do have an adjustable horn that can be swiveled as necessary. if you mean fronts, I have the Synergy SLX wall mountable as fronts and if you mount them horizontally, you can swivel them down. (mounted vertically they swivel from side to side). they are on wall rather than in wall though. they show on the Klipsch site as $350 speakers but are available online for a third of that. the Synergy line was developed for Best Buy and they are dropping the SLX which is why you can find them so heavily discounted. you could mount three SLX speakers across the front as L-C-R. I have two as L-R with a C-2 in the middle on the TV stand behind the TV. Had I not bought the C-2 earlier, I could have saved money and used a third SLX wall mounted. I don't know if the in wall speakers adjust like the in ceilings and on walls do. If you want to spend more money, there are Reference Series wall mounts but the XL-23 runs $500 each. Had the SLX been selling at the $350 list price, I might have been tempted to spend another $150 for the XL-23 but I couldn't talk myself into paying over four times as much given the close out discount on the SLX.
  2. I have KHC-6 ceiling speakers on the sides. my room only allowed ceilings on the sides and these were the ones that matched the Synergy line I was using in front. I'm very happy with them. the Reference line is still higher quality but these are good and available at Best Buy. I'd hesitate to use them in front only because I think you want something that projects more. I have not listened to the in wall speakers that are comparable to my sides. I have Klipsch on walls in front which I got at a highly discounted close out price online and they are a great value if that wouldn't be too conspicuous for you.
  3. S-2s are designed as surround speakers. the fronts are sort of curved with a center speaker and two side speakers that are angled to spread the sound. they easily wall mount as they have a keyhole on the back. the B-2 is designed as a front and projects the sound straight ahead. they are designed to go on a shelf and have a port in the back that would be covered if you wall mounted them. I think the S-2 sounds better. I have a pair that I used as fronts for a while and just moved to the backs. I bought them as fronts against advice because I needed to wall mount and I thought they sounded much better than the B-2s. they never disappointed me as fronts although I eventually found something else I could wall mount which allowed me to move the S-2s to the rear in place of some old Bose 151s.
  4. to complete the story, Amazon now has both the SUB-12 and KSW-12 listed now and they've dropped the price (through Vanns) down to $299.88 which really helps clarify that it is an older model. The SUB-12 is listed on Amazon at $469.99. I got in touch with Vanns during my return period and agreed to keep the KSW-12 if they'd credit me with the price reduction which they did. I've now installed the KSW-12 and its meeting my needs very well, and it saved me a good deal of money. I did put a piece of rubber flooring under it to eliminate vibrations from our floating tile floor.
  5. actually then, you have the current model. it's the ksw-12 that is the older one. I know. I have one in a box that I ordered thinking I was getting the sub012 that yoiu have. today is decision day whether to open it and give it a try or send it back unopened. my room design almost forces a corner placement. all the equipment is in a shallow alcove at the end of the room that must have been a wide shallow closet when the house was originally built. two cabinets full of cd's and dvd's flank a tv stand across the front of the alcove. my s-2 fronts are hung from the wall. my c-2 center is on top of the tv. my sub is on the floor in the corner of the alcove behind the left side cabinet. the placement has worked well with my current jbl-10 but you make me worry that it'll over-amplify a 12. there is no easy way to get wires to a speaker placement outside of the alcove. if you are wondering how I got wire to the the surround speakers, they are all in the ceiling. I was able to wire up from the alcove into the unfinished attic to run wire to ceiling speakers. it would be much harder to wire under the floor plus my wife would scream about the aesthics of a sub which was no longer nicely hidden from view behind the cd cabinet. if I am forced to put the ksw-12 in the corner of the alcove, how should I orient it? which side should point toward the corner and which side should face across the alcove? I have a little bit of extra rubber flooring left over from creating an exercise area in the basement. should I plan on putting a piece under the sub?
  6. unfortunately, as I've noted in another thread the 12 I ordered from Amazon turned out to be the older KSW-12 instead of a SUB-12. I got it for not all that much more than a SUB-10 would have cost. I'm trying to convince myself that what I got is better than the readily available SUB-10 even if it isn't as good as the hard to find SUB-12. any thoughts?
  7. the ksw-12 arrived today but I haven't opened it. I've got plans tomorrow night too so Thursday is the earliest I can try it. I'm hoping to hear from customer service with my return options before then. I'm gradually talking myself into keeping it though particularly as I'm not sure where I'd buy a true SUB-12 even though I'm right in Klipsch's home town of Indy.
  8. can you adjust the sub volume at the receiver?
  9. forgot to mention Bruce Springsteen Live in Dublin. It's a cd for car testing and dvd if you are testing home audio and is quite surprising for Bruce. lots of folksy songs with a band with violins, guitars, piano, and brass including some Sousaphone stuff to test the lows. the band comes off as a cross between dixieland, country, and Klezmer. great fun even if you think it's not a perfect test vehicle for your tastes. I just got a new set of speakers installed in my car over the weekend and I listened to this cd today driving to work and was not disappointed.
  10. sounds like maybe I should give it a try as long as I can return it after opening if I'm not happy. it's probably a major upgrade over my current old JBL 10. if the major difference between a KSW-12 and a Sub-12 is power, I think I'll be happy. I'm no longer into cranking my systems. the kids are all grown and out of the house so I have no rap music or video game needs. I'm not a big movie fan. my wife likes movies but she's not into action stuff and isn't enough of an audiophile to even have noticed how much the system improved when I replaced the old Bose 5.1 speakers with 7.1 Klipsch. the object is to replace the JBL with something that matches my new setup.
  11. I'm mostly angry that they were not described accurately online, particularly the price. Not that the price is unfair but it was described as if they were marked down $70 on sale where in fact Klipsch has lowered the price on this old model. I'll decide what to do after I hear my options from customer service. the speaker isn't coming directly from Amazon; there's a 3rd party seller. as for my needs, I don't have a high end setup. my fronts are s-2's with a c-2 setup. the sides are khc-6's (ceiling) and the rears are old BOSE 151's from a prior setup. onkyo 605 receiver. the use is probably 70% TV, 25% music, and less than 5% movies. I don't care about shaking the house on sound effects. I'm inclined to think that if I'm getting $380 worth of fair value, I'll be happy. after all I settled for the 2 series speakers and didn't spend the extra for the 3's. maybe what I'm getting is in the same class with the rest of my system. money wise I'm basically getting the older 12 inch model for what I could buy the current 10 inch one locally. is the KSW-12 and upgrade over a SUB-10? I know its not as good as a SUB-12, but if it is better than the current 10 maybe I'm okay.
  12. I can cancel the ksw12 - I've written customer service at the vendor - and with UPS advertising shipment cancellation they can probably recall it enroute - but should I? it's costing me $380 delivered. BestBuy says the SUB-12 is 4 something and backordered online. it's not in stock at any of my local stores. I know I could get a sub-10 locally but is a ksw-12 better than a sub 10? BestBuy also shows reference subs but as in store only. I suppose I could call the two biggest local stores and see if they have one but I bet the price would be over 5. HH Gregg is also local and has Klipsch but I'm 99% sure they don't have anything but the sub-10. I don't know whether to blame Amazon or myself for not realizing there were two different synergy 12 subs out there. I sure didn't have any idea from the message a Klipsch tech posted here saying Amazon had signed on as a dealer that they were talking old models.
  13. Yikes. maybe I have the wrong sub on order too. Here's what Amazon is calling it: Klipsch KSW-12 Synergy Series 12" 440Watt Home Theater Subwoofer. is this something other than the current 12" synergy? I'm not expecting a Reference but I am expecting a current model just as the guy who started this thread is expecting a current 10. oh, I do see both models on the Klipsch website and now I realize that the sub-$400 price is normal for this "classic" model and not a discount from the $500 price of the current one. looks like the power is lower. hmmm.
  14. that's very helpful. I think I'll autosetup and see what it does. if it's somewhere between 80 and 100 or so and it sounds good, I'll probably accept it. as for inches difference with the microphone, the autosetup has you do center, left and right separate so it must be averaging. the tip so set the sub high first is a good one.
  15. I have a new sub in transit and I'm wondering whether I'll need to adjust the cross-over's manually or if I can accept what my receiver does automatically. Here's the setup: receiver - Onkyo 605 fronts - Klipsch S-2 (yes, they're designed as surrounds but I liked them better than the B-2's and the way my room is setup it doesn't matter that the sound is a bit dispursed from side to side as the speakers are set back in an alcove with walls to their outside) center - Klipsch C-2 sub - Klipsch Synergy 12 sides - Klipsch KHC-6 ceiling speakers back - Bose 151's surface mounted on the ceiling and facing front (if Klipsch had something comparable in white I'd switch but I don't think another set of KHC-6's would project enough sound forward and even if I could live with black the S-2's don't ceiling mount and wall mounting is not an option as the family room flows right into the kitchen with no dividing wall) My Onkyo has a setup deal with a microphone that will automatically adjust the levels for the listening positions. It must also put some default values in the cross-over settings. I don't know whether they'll be okay values or not. what would the best settings be? Also, I'm a little confused as to whether I just run the autosetup first and then change the cross-overs leaving the levels autoset or whether I should change the cross-overs first and then run the autosetup to set the levels second taking into account the manually set cross-overs. I'm worried that running autosetup second will blow away the cross-overs but maybe not. Anyone been down this road before?
  16. the listing I see on Amazon is Synergy KSW-10. I think you got the 10" Synergy. Unless you wanted the 12, I think you are okay. I just ordered the 12 myself.
  17. okay, you convinced me. I'll spend the extra for the 12. why take the risk of getting a Klipsch 10 to replace my JBL 10 only to discover that a 10 is a 10. I'll put in the Klipsch 12 and move the 10 to the basement system which has no sub at all now.
  18. so I should ignore all the reviews that say the 12 is great for movies but not good for music? I listen to a lot more music than movies. I don't want to spoil my music for the sake of sound effects.
  19. what about amazon? will they ship into Canada? they carry all 3 S models.
  20. I see the S's all on Best Buy Online. will they not ship into Canada?
  21. don't overlook music DVDs. they tend to be true 5.1 where the music CDs are not. the Beattles remixed Love DVD has a lot of nice stuff. last time I took CDs to an audio shop I took Queen's Greatest Hits for wide ranging loud stuff and a Modern Jazz Quartet CD for a quiet mix of bass, piano, vibes, and drum work that includes a lot of high cymbal tones.
  22. I've replaced most of my speakers with Synergies, but I'm still using an old JBL 10" sub. I've been thinking for months that eventually I'd upgrade to the Synergy10 and move the JBL to the basement where my old Bose system is setup. The upstairs room isn't huge, maybe 12 by 25. The primary use is cable TV and music. We watch an occassional movie but I'm much more concerned with good clean bass for my music than shaking the walls for a movie sound effect. The online reviews I've read seem to say that the Syn12 beats the 10 for movies but that the 10 has advantages for music. Reading this thread it looks like I could get a Ref10 for not much more than the Syn12. I have no plans to upgrade the entire system to Reference level as I'm very happy with my "2" level Synergies. Should I follow through with my plan to get a Klipsch Syn 10, or should I hold onto my money until I'm comfortable spending a few hundred dollars more?
  23. have you looked at the S-2's? They are bookshelf or wall mounts and are designed to be the surround speakers to match what you have.
  24. My Onkyo 6 disk works fine for me. I bought a reconditioned slightly older model with component output because I didn't need the HDMI of the current model, but I'm happy. Looks like the HDMI model is available reconditioned from the outlet store now for $129 which is probably what I paid last year for the older model. Sometime this year I'll probably add a Blu-Ray but it will be a single and I'll keep the Onkyo changer for music.
  25. I have a pair of KHC-6 speakers mounted in the ceiling as my side speakers and I'm very happy with them. They are the one set of Klipsch ceiling speakers from the Synergy line. I think the others are more designed for general use than audio. I see the KHW-5 wall speaker also is indexed under Synergy. My speakers are circular. The wall speakers are rectangular. Now I'm using Synergy speakers in front too rather than Reference speakers but I think you'll be happy with the Klipsch in wall or ceiling speakers regardless of which Klipsch speakers you decide to use in front. Understand I'm just a happy customer. Someone official may come along Monday when the office opens with a different answer.
