  1. I have the SUb-12 also and i had it hooked up with a Y connector to both the L and R on the sub and this thread had me a little worried about my setup. I called klipsh customer support and with just a question about the manual only showing the LFE in use, I was given several setup options and one was using a Y connector. With that info I still have mine setup with the Y.
  2. I've heard many Samsung Plasmas hum or buzz but that is because I live in Colorado and the elevation affects plasma panels (except Panasonic and Pioneer) causing the hum/buzz. At the higher altitude, usually above 5000 ft, the air pressure is low enough that it allows the pixels in a plasma panel to vibrate causing the hum from the plasma panel. If you are below that elevation you typically should not have that problem and it will probably be another component you are using. Hope this gives you somewhere to start in you search for that annoying distraction!!
  3. I tested out both the Sub-12 and the RW-10d. I did notice some port noise on the RW10d but nothing like that on the Sub-12. I thought it was just the demo room I was in being poorly designed. Granted these were tested in 2 different stores so a true side by side did not happen. I did however hear the port noise mentioned earlier and we weren't pushing the 10 all that hard. On the sub-12 we did crank up the volume a bit and it performed nicely.
  4. I know I want these speakers and I'm sure there will not be a problem with the set up so i'll be putting in my order for the speakers in about 3 weeks. In the mean time i'm going to start the recessed shelf and a couple ofther preparatory things. Once I have the speakers and everything installed I'll let you all know how it turns out. I'll post some pics too. Thanks for your time.
  5. Thanks for all the info guys! I planned on leaving enough room in the recess to have some kind of padding or other protection from scuff marks. If there will be no resonance issues then i'm going for it. As far as the RB-61's go they will be in a book case that is about 19 inches wide so i'll have plenty of room to play with for angling them towards my seating area. THe problem is I will have my reciever and DVR and DVD in the same built-in so i didn't want to waste real estate by having the Bookshelves vertical. Hopefully there will not be too much difference laying them horizontal. You'd think no matter what type of bookshelf you put them on they would work...they are after all, bookshelf speakers. =) We'll see what happens. Does anyone else have any opinion on horizontal orientation of the RB-61's? My room is about 16' wide and 25' long with a wall on one side and open to the dinnig room on the other. my seating is about 16' away.
  6. Hello all, I am a newbie here on the forum. I have done tons of research on speakers and pretty much have decided on the RB-61 Recommended set up except with a Sub-12. I have one problem though. The RC-52 is 10.5 inches deep and 7 inches high. The ledge I have for the center is only 7" deep and only 4" from the bottom of my mounted plasma. I was thinking of building in a recessed shelf below this ledge and mounting the RC52 flush to the wall. Since it is front ported i was thinking there should be no real accoustical issues with this. Will there be any audible distortion from having the speaker in the wall? The plan is a hole almost exactly the size of the speaker. Would you recommend some "breathing room" around it? Also do you see any problem laying the RB61 on their side as opposed to standing (for the same reason as above)? Thanks for your help!
  7. I was only able to listen to the RW-10 last night. I wasn't really able to get a good demo because the sound room this place has is not very well done. I think I will probably go with the sub-12 unless anyone else out there has opinions on this...Anyone?? Thanks!
  8. I went and had a listen to the Sub-10 and the Sub-12...I definitely liked the Sub-12 much more. I'm going to go later this afternoon and have a listen to the RW-12d. From the other posts it sounds like i'll probably like the Sub-12 better. I hope so cause it'll be cheaper so I can buy the wife something and not feel bad for spending so much on me! =) I'll post what I find later tonight! Thanks for your input!
  9. I am looking at getting the entire RB61 recommended set up but when looking at the subs i am torn between the RW-12d and Sub-12. All of the specs are pretty similar the biggest difference i see is the down facing vs front facing and the controls on the top for the RW-12d. Now I am leaning towards the Sub12 because of the WAF. She'd like the clean smooth top better. She would also be more inclined to allow me to place the sub12 in the front center of the room if flanked by two ottomans...(yeah yeah i know...fancy word for rootrest!). Is there a huge difference in the quality of sound or depth of sound from the RW12d? Pretty much I can get the 2 for the same price. I think the difference is somewhere around $80. What about RW-10d? about the same price as the sub-12? Thanks ahead of time for your input!! I would go listen to them but that would require visiting 2 seperate stores and it's hard to get an apples to apple comparison that way. I plan on trying that tomorrow but would like some input from you guys too! Thanks ahead of time for your input!!
  10. Since i'm limited with space i'm going with the RB-61 bookshelf speakers. Does it matter if the speakers are on their side as opposed to standing? Does this change the sound much? Thanks.
  11. Thanks for all your help! I think I'll go with the recommended RB61 setup. I'm sure i'll be happy with it. I'l just have to come up with a way to extend the ledge below my TV for the center.
  12. I saw that recommended set up. My only concern is the center is a little bit large for my room. I would like something that is fairly small in size. Is there another Center that would still match the set up with out being so large? Would the center that goes with the Quintet III not be a good fit? Thanks!
  13. I get a great deal on Klipsch products and I would like your thoughts on this set up. I will be running a Yamaha RX-V661. I plan on going with the RB-61 for my fronts. I was thinking about going with the Quintet III system for my center and rear for the 5.1. Then adding the other 2 speakers from the Quintet III when I convert to a 7.1 in the future. Does this sound like a good idea? Will the Quintets match the RB-61 when used as surrounds? Will the center be overpowered by the RB-61? I am trying to keep the center and surround speakers size down as much as possible but still get a great sound. I have auditioned the Quintets set up this way with the B3's and it sounded pretty good to me but I am not sure how much more powerful the RB-61's are. Any suggestions you have for a better setup would be greatly appreciated! The room these are going in is about 15x25 with a space of 15x15 used for the theater area. Thanks!!
