You mean like Transport digital out to in DAC(converter) to out rca to Pre or Reciever.I'm using digital coax from Transport to DAC.If you have a cd player,your player would act as a transport to the dac.Some have RCA,BNC and TOSlink "outs",the choice is up to you.
