  1. I have a Onkyo pre pro. I wouldnt go back to an AVR whether it was Denon or Onkyo. I looked at the Denon when I was upgrading, but didnt want a AVR and read about the blue rain or something to that effect, and marked that one off the list. Looked at Marantz, but no XT32, so that was quickly marked off as well.

Back to Onkyo which had everything I wanted. Considering this is the pro model, pre pro, no heat, XLR connections, installer ready, was plusses all around.

Everyone has their opinions and their brands they like. I like Onkyo, but also like Marantz and Denon, but until they release something Im very interested in, Ill stick with my onkyo.

  2. IMHO, Im glad I bought my 5508. Main reason for upgrading from my 876 was Audyssey XT32. It does wonders. The fact that I can add Audyssey Pro to it for another $550 is also great. With pro, you can actually see what your room is doing and adjust the filters for each individual speaker.

I can understand some people buying the UMC because it is cheap. The clearance price is even better and mostly why people are scooping it up currently. I myself never liked it because it is plagued with bugs and has a terrible room correction.

Granted my 5508 cost $1499 when I bought it, but was definately worth the money in my opinion. Leaps and bounds better than my 876(XT).

These are just my opinions UMC owners, sorry if I offended anyone.

Thanks a lot nezff....Stick out tongue Now the upgrade bug will bite when I will start wondering what I'm missing by not having XT32.

I agree with this 100%: I myself never liked it because it is plagued with bugs and has a terrible room correction. When I watch a movie I don't want to have to deal with center channel drop outs or whatever issue. I want to sit down and enjoy. I don't want to waste what little free time I have trying to fix and tweak.

As far as only having XT is it leaps and bounds ahead of anything I've ever used before so I'm happy with it. Before I used YPAO in a RX-V663 receiver and EmoQ in the UMC-1 so the results of Audyssey XT were very impressive.

I was the same way. I sold my original onkyo with multeq. bought the 886 with multeq xt. then sold it and moved to xt32.

Price for me was of little consideration, it's 1/3 the price of the cheapest prepro I ever owned. My UMC has never failed, I had several Onkyos fail with horrid service to follow, the internet is full of stories too, bugs? All anyone has to do is try a unit, if you like it fine, if not move on.For some reason people can hardly move on from the UMC, there must be something about it that makes them want to justify their next purchase that I don't understand.I would think they would say they tried it but it didn't work out.But for some reason that's not enough, even after explaining many times why, it's still not over. It's like when someone gets a divorce or something.

The thought of paying $1500 for an Onkyo is something I suppose I'll never understand when I could have a Rotel etc...but to each their own.

Ive had several Onkyo also and never had a problem. I have read one thread where there was a simple problem with the 08 series onkyos having a IDE cable replaced. wow.

There was a Denon thread where there was a blue rain issue. I guess we shouldnt buy those either. Its funny you mention bugs, because you say the UMC was a good buy, but then you down onkyo for supposed bugs which the UMC has a ton of.

Like i said, I didnt mean to offend any UMC owners.

  4. I just think it's great that we get to share our experiences with SO MANY options that are available to us. Just consider how far we have come from Dolby ProLogic. I'm glad we all have different setups too. If we all had the same, it would be rather boring and we would have nothing to talk about. LOL

First I've heard of Audessey Pro. Sounds pretty cool but pricey.

Carbon, I agree the EmoQ doesn't offer much. There is no doubt Audessey is a far superior room calibration software than EmoQ is currently. I'm curious what Emotiva is going to use for the XMC.

    Probably their own room correction.

I also have used Pioneers MCACC, that was a joke.

  6. Update!

I changed the names on the second post so the names of the colors can be seen and read better. Trying to limit the confusion. thanks WS.

On a side note, I was thinking the black with gold might look very good with Klipsch speakers. I had one customer request it. I might order about 50 feet of it if anyone is interested.
