  1. Well I just bought a Luxman R-115 on ebay and I am planning on restoring my Marantz 2245 this winter. I also plan on rebuilding the crossovers soon. Thanks for all the help.
  2. I just scored a set of 1983 Cornwalls on Craiglist for $150. I have been looking for a pair of these locally for years. I like to listen to a variety of music from Classical to Hard Rock. Right now I have a MAC 1700 hooked up to them and they sound pretty good. I plan on rebuilding the crossovers soon because they are original. I have a Marantz 2245 that needs recaped (does not work yet)and I have enough parts to build a tube amp. I was wondering if the tube amp would be able to give the "punch" that the hard rock needs to sound good. I don't hear of many people listening to such music with tube amps. I have a set of Heresy's that I did try a tube amp on, and the sound lacked "that punch". Please excuse my inexperience. What direction should I go.
  3. Hello Everyone, I have been running a set of recaped Heresy 1's with a Sansui 771 while my Mac1700 was restored ( I had never played it through the Heresy's before the restoration). I expected to hear a big difference when I hooked up the Mac but it was probaly equal or less sound quality than the Sansui. Is it me? The tuner sounds fantastic but when I play a CD there is no noticble improvement in sound qualilty over the Sansui.
  4. I took the advise of the forum members recomondation to add a powered sub to my tube monoblocks & Heresy 1 set up and the results were fantastic. thanks to all
  5. I think we have figured it out. There are two screws on the amp with tone written next to it. I guess the console that these came from had an external tone control. So when I played it with my CD player the tone was maxed. We (me and my tech guy) are going to build a tone control and give it a try. I new the Heresy's were not the problem because I tried them on a reciever and they worked fine. we found a schematic and it showed us what was missing.
  6. I am new to this hobby so bear with me. I just bought a pair of Ampex Monoblocks and I have them hooked up to a set of recapped Heresy 1's. The sound is very harsh mids that hurt my ears and no bass. I have a Sony cd player going into the input and I am using the tone level control as a volume control. Am I doing something wrong?
  7. Do I really need a preamp? There are level controls on the blocks. I listen to CD's and a ipod. In the future I would like to get a better turntable. Right now I have a GE TT.
  8. I am new to this hobby so be gentle. I am looking for the most bang for your buck tube preamp. I am on a tight budget. I just bought a pair of Ampex tube Mono blocks. I have a set of Heresy 1's. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance,
  9. They are in better condition than I thought. Original owner since 1980. Hooked them up to my tube Allied 333 ($120) and they sound Fantastic!!! The cabinets are a little beat up and since I am a hobby woodworker I was thinking of making some solid wood (red oak) cabinets. I am also going to get a crossover kit from Crites. Any other suggestions?
  10. I just won my first set of Klipsch speakers. Paid $129 on Ebay. They have been in the family since new in 1980. I have to drive 3 hours to pick them up but I can't wait to hook them up to my Allied tube reciever. I am a newbe as you can tell. I have been lurking on this forum for 8 months and have learned alot. Thanks to all.
