  1. That vaneer is really thin. If there is still paint or some other finish on the cabinets, I would use some stripease or some other chemical stripper along with some 0000 steel wool removing what is left. After all has been removed, let dry and lightly sand just to smooth out. Dont sand too much. Use the bottom of the cabinet where its not seen to try your desired stain. Only after putting a clear cote on will you see the real finish.Hope this helps a little. Good luck, Bill
  2. I am new to this site and its been very helpful so far.But it seems the more answers I get, the more questions I have.I guess its called learning. My question is[ If a cap in a crossover circuit is a bypass type such as in a second order woofer circuit, where its just rolling off the upper frequency faster, does it have to be as high of quality as a cap that music passes through?] I would think a first order cap for a tweeter or squawker would be much more important. So you could buy $50 caps for the important ones and $10 caps for the less heard caps.I hope this makes sense to you out there but I would rather put the money where it counts.Or,maybe I am missing something and the GURUS out there will inform me. Thanks Bill
  3. Hi, Bill here and I am new to the group also. There is a lot of good advice here. You will need to know what the original finish was. I believe the modle # can tell you this. I have done some refinish jobs in the past but by no means an expert. If you have completly stripped all of the paint and the original was oiled walnut, all you may have to do is lightly sand with the grain using fine sandpaper or steelwool. After that simply rub in some lemon oil. There are other oils that will work too. I am sure others will give you some input. If the original finish was laquer you may need to clear coat the finish and the color will even out. Please wait untill some of the experts out there chime in . They can shurely help out. Good Luck. Bill
  4. Hi to the group, I have been away from the computer for a few days and surprised at the responce here. I have been doing some price checks on the different caps out there and some are quite costly. I will probably stay in the mid price range caps.I think I am leaning towards Clarity and sonicaps.I guess when it comes to picking out caps, its like picking out speakers, everybody likes something different. I will start with these and see what happens. I am getting lots of good advice here,Great Group! Thanks for all of your input, BILL
  5. Hi to the group, I am updating several crossover capacitors in my Cornwalls and Belles. I would like some advice on what brand has a good product at a reasonable price. Also is there any advantage of a 1% over a 5% or will a 10% do. I do want to replace these caps with ones that are as good as the original or better.I notice there are several different types and manufactures. Im sure I should be asking other questions but I am also sure the GURUS out there will inform me.I have been asking a lot of questions on this forum and have been getting a lot of good answers. Your input is valuable to me. Thanks a bunch, Bill
  6. I am thinking about upgrading the Type AB to mabe AB-2 or type A . I understand that the AB was not the best design and the AB-2 took its place. What I need to find out is, Whats the difference between the two. Also look at Type A. I have been getting a lot of helpful info here.I may be able to change my existing crossover to an upgrade by purchasing the proper components.I am pretty good with a solder gun.I already have the schematic diagram for the AB that I got from here. I will need to get a schematic for the AB-2 and the A to see what they do and what parts I may need. I could also just buy a new A or Ab-2 from Mr. Bob C. I know he advertizes them on Ebay.He seems to be a guru on Klipsch products.I am overhauling a set of Bells and Two sets of Cornwalls .I still have to open one more Cornwall to verify crossover type.I may do that today. Thanks to everyone so far for your help. There is a world of information here.[]
  7. Hi Guys, Bill here again.Getting ready to upgrade the Type AB crossover for the Bells. Would be nice to have a diagram. Thanks again for the instant help I got with the last question.
  8. Hi Bob, Bill here, thanks for info.I thought they might be 16ohm but wasnt shure.I have been reading post here and I must say there seems to be a lot of knowledge here. Bob I have two set of cornwalls and a set Belles all original. I know your the man to see for info, parts, and mods.I am getting ready to go through all of them. Thanks again Bill
  9. Hi guys, Name here is Bill.I have been reading some of the post here and it seems to be a very good place for info.I have a pair of cornwalls I bought in 1982.I am getting ready to recap the crossover.I took some DC readings across the drivers and found this.K77M about 6.5ohms = about 8ohms impedence,K33E about 3.5ohms =about 4ohms impedence, K51v about10.5ohms.Is this what it should be?And if so what is the impedence? This info would be helpfull. Thanks Bill
