  1. Dunno if there is still interest in these older Ultra systems anymore, but I still love mine so: I realized the other day that I have an old drink cooler that I never use. It features a cooling fan that radiates heat away from the actual cooling pad using a heatsink and fan. I disasembled the device, relocated the fan on top of the heat sink (using superglue of course), and then using thermal grease and 1 drop of superglue attached the cooling pad to the back of Ultra Amp... the picture explains. Anyways I plan on measuring the difference in temperature soon. But just from feeling the back of the amp while running (at least one hour) the entire panel is "lukewarm" to the touch, vs being quite hot before being plugged in. I had attempted to power the set up using a phone charger but it wasn't quite powerfully enough so I am using USB for power with a longer cable I spliced together
  2. Hey, so I was wondering if the digital decoder that is used by most logitech sets can be rigged to be used on something other than a logitech set... ie Promedia Ultra. I see that the logitechs have a control pod, like the klipsch, but unlike the promedia line, the control pod accepts the inputs, not the back of the amp. Is the digital converstion (not that I know how this is done), preformed in the logitech control pod, or does it send the digital signal on to the Logitech amp, and it is preformed there? Just curious if this would be possible??
  3. I've seen a couple of threads about people running RSXs on the Promedia Ultra amp. I was just curious if this effects the amp, and or damages it over time as the RSX-4s are 8ohms. Any advice would be great. Thanks
  4. I took one of my promedia subs apart to fix a rattle a couple of years back, and there are two additional fuses. Not sure what they are wired to but they are definitely there... just unscrew the amp, and disconnect it from the driver, and have a look they are easy to find if I remember right.
  5. I'm running 2 pm2.1s off a Y splitter, that way the signal gets split, so I have 2 left and 2 right speakers, and I keep my subs stacked, they stack really nicely, I played around with different locations for the subs, but the preamp cord is too short to really do that effectively, plus when stacked they look impressive. Also their is definitely a noticable improvement in bass...I think in terms of cone size its a bit more than an 8 inch driver might give you and a bit less than a 10. I really like it. Just go to radio shack or even best buy and ask for a Y-splitter.
  6. I'm not too sure. But I've heard of people putting RSX-5s and 4s on the Promedia Ultra. I think the Ultra uses 6ohm sats like the 2.1. But I am not really sure. Hopefully someone with more knowledge or more experience can answer this. I think it would work, but my concern (and I don't know much), but would it strain the amp, and reduce it's life? The sound quality would definitely be a noticable improvement too.
  7. Okay I have 2 of the promedia 2.1s and have had them for some time and for computer speakers they are amazing. Anyways, I have 2 different problems with the subs. One of the subs has developed a slight rattle, very noticable during a bass intensive section of a song with little in the upper frequencies. (Intro to Metallica-One is probably the most noticable) Anyways I when I apply pressure to the side of the subwoofer enclosure (near the top right corner on the driver side), it removes the rattle, I've taken both the driver and amp out and retightened them. I am wondering what if any method is best for tightening the subwoofer frame to remove the rattle. The second problem I have is with the second subwoofer. When played at the same volume as the other set the subwoofer port produces noticable noise. That annoying chuffing that happens as the air rushes out. I can't figure out what could be the problem as inspection of it shows nothing wrong. I just find it strange that since they play at identical levels, and appear to be physically the same this happens? Or could it be a problem with the driver and not the port? Sorry if that was lengthy but any help would be great. Don't feel like buying anything new since they don't pay you much to be a student.
