  1. Ahh! I think I know what it is. Did you plug that hole on the bottom of the RC-3? It's for that spike they give you, but I didn't use it, so I pluged the hole with silicone caulk. You have to plug it, it goes all the way thru the cabinet.
  2. I'm in the middle of planning some RF-3 mods, such as rebuilding the crossovers, oak veneer and trim, etc. I have some questions, though. I've read lots of posts about people using Dynamat. Should I just put this stuff on everything inside the cabinet? ( magnets, woofer baskets, internal horn surface, outside of port tube, cabinet walls?) I've also been thinking about getting rid of the grills. The tweeter is pretty well protected, but I want to cover the woofers. Does anyone know if metal waffle grills or wire mesh grills are wise to use? Will they affect the sound at all? Which would be better to use? I'd also like to hear from anyone at all who rebuilt their own RF-3 crossovers, or anyone who has used Solen fast-caps or North Creek Music's Harmony and Crescendo Bypass Caps. OK, one more. For the crossover inductors, I'm going with Solen solid air core 12ga for the low pass and Solen Litz air core 14ga for the high pass. Does this sound OK? Thanks for all the help! This probably wouldn't have been possible without this forum!
  3. I'm rebuilding my RF-3 crossovers and would like an opinion on the following capacitor selections. I don't know a whole lot about electronics, but I read about this "cascading bypass capacitor" thing on northcreekmusic.com. I think I got the idea; any opinions/recommendations appreciated To replace 18 uF cap.- Solen fast caps 10 uF 250v 3.3 uF 400v 2.2 uF 630v 1.0 uF 630v Harmony bypass caps 1.0 uF .22 uF .22 uF =17.94 uF To replace 12 uF cap.- Solen fast caps 7.5 uF 250v 2.0 uF 400v 1.0 uF 630v Harmony bypass caps 1.0 uF .22 uF .22 uF =11.94 uF To replace 4.5 uF cap.- Solen fast caps 2.0 uF 400v 1.0 uF 630v Harmony bypass caps 1.0 uF .22 uF .22 uF =4.44 uF
  4. I'm rebuilding the crossover networks in my RF-3s and I would appreciate some recommendations on which type of inductors to use. The stock setup uses 2 air cores for the high-pass and an iron core for the low pass. Should I use the same types, or should I use air core for the low pass also? Any recommendations and opinions would be great. PS - I love the bass on these speakers, and I want to use whatever's best (loudest and deepest!) for the low pass
