  1. Guys:

Thanks for all the help. Gaspr suggested I contact Bob Crites and I did so. After Bob had given me several options, I decided to replace my tweeters with the CT125, replace my crossovers with his A/4500 crossovers (or whatever he thinks works best), and replace my K-55-Ms with new Atlas PD-5VH drivers.

Since I had just purchased the speakers for a good price, I felt that I could afford to give the speakers a fresh start. I believe that I might replace the woofers also since they are only somthing like $275 a pair.

I have learned a lot since I had made this post and again I thank all of you for your input.

  2. I have recently purchased a pair of 1985 Khorns (type KB00). They have the K-55-M midrange horn, AK-2 crossovers and the K-77 high freq horn.
Because the K-55-m driver is no longer made, instead of replacing the diaphram (don't want to force another diaphram to fit the K-55-M driver), what driver can I use to replace the K-55-m driver on the end of the existing horn..or would I need to replace the entire horn/driver? Would they fit in place of the existing horn in the speaker? Does Klipsch have a replacement horn/driver for the K-55-M/horn? What would be some of my options?
  3. DrWho, sorry I've been away for a while....Seal? Is that the two rubber like strips that go on either side of the smaller vertical 'board' down the back, inside? (Whew!, I'm not shure I can describe what I am talking about.) I am not shure how to tell if it is properly seated..the KHorns (the tops) fit into the corner. However there is a wainscoating around the room about 30 inches high with a molding strip at the top. Maybe that causes a problem? What would be the problem cause by it? ....just not as good of bass?

  4. Listen, I really appreciate ALL the input. My head is swimming but I will get a grip on 'it' at some point.

Just saw a Jolida JD-1000RC new 100wpc integrated amp for $2395. Is Jolida a good, very good, excellent, quality and sound. I realize that it is only your opinion but it gives me some information which is much better than a vaccum. Also is class AB good? That is I guess it is not as good as pure Class A but how is AB not as good as A. Would you be happy with a class AB?

  5. Not shure what to do. I want to spend as little as possible, of course, and get an amp/preamp or integrated amp that will sound more like a tube amp for my KHorns.

I am interested in the Emotiva XPA-2 ($799) and RSP-1 ($629). They have good reviews and fantastac prices! I have just in the last month acquired my KHorns. With the receiver I am using now (Onkyo TX-Sv515pro) the sound sometimes (not most of the time) will sound a little harsh. From what I have read, this is the sound expected out of most (not all) SS gear.

I have read that the Marsh A400s amplifier ($2295) has a less harsh sound. However the price (for me) is stiff. Marsh has a preamp P2000T ($1500) that is a hybrid preamp.

Oh, I forgot to mention that I am retired and buying tube equipment that may need several hundred dollars in tubes a year is not an option. So my questions are, can you use the Marsh A400s amplifier with the Emotiva preamp? The problem with using the Marsh Preamp is that it does not have a sub woofer out.

Does anyone have any experiance with Emotiva amps and KHorns or the like? Trying to figure out what to do.

    Thx, Larry

  6. Well, not really. I saw other names that had some interest or pizaz (sp?) (not to be confused with pizza) and suddenly it dawned on me that my name (above pic) should be Woofer - so that it goes with my dog Lucy Liu (her name de Plume). However I cannot figgure out how to change "Lawrence H Wesson" to "Woofer". Sent an email to someone called Amy (amy@klipsch.com my guess as to her email address) but have had no luck.

    Thx,

    Larry

  7. I am looking at Scott and Fisher integrated amps. However I do not have (nor want) a phonograph. I want to play only CDs. Is there an existing input you can use or do you have to add a modification to the amp in order to play a CD. If you were to use an existing amp input, what is your guess on how well the CD would sound as compared to a modern SS amplifier. I guess what I am trying to ask is - does the CD not work well with a tube integrated amplifier.

Thanks in advance for your advice and opinions.

    Larry

P.S. How do you place your System Profile automatically (below) without having to copy and paste it in every time (like I did below). I'm new, this is my second post but I cannot find any help material on these things. I have emailed amy@klipsch.com, the email goes through but no one has responded.

  8. This is my first post. I have recently purchased a pair of '85 KHorns. I am driving them with a Onkyo TX-SV515PRO and would like to get more power, to sound cleaner and present a good "sound stage".

I have pretty much decided on the Emotiva RSP-1 and XPA-2 over the Bel Canto. I have read two reviews that sound good and the price is great! What do you think of this brand?

Would these work with the KHorns? Would they be too much power and might damage the speakers? Would more power available to the speakers (these amps are bridgeable into a 1,000 watt (8 ohms) monoblock amp improve the sound from the speakers. I do not play them real loud - on the Onkyo about 8 on the dial out of 40 units (whatever they are).

The Bel Cantos are very interesting but I do not understand if the price (more expensive than the Emotiva) justifies their new technology and if this new technology (whatever it does) will sound any better than the Emotivas.

    Any one, please your opinion.

Oh, can anyone tell me how to take the "Lawrence H Wesson" and replace it by "Woofer" - relating to pic of my dog below it?

    Thx,

    Larry Wesson
