  1. Thank you, wvu80. Yeah, for some reason with my stereo stuff and my bicycles I tend to keep brochures, receipts and boxes. Although I don't remember what happen to the original boxes for the fortes'. I believe I left the boxes at the dealer and put one speaker in my car and since the sales guys lived near me he put one in his car and delivered it for me.

    Cheers,

    Scott

  2. The RP280 is an outstanding speaker. The new horn material that Klipsch is using has really refined highs. At full retail I believe they are a good value. At what Klipsch has them for right now ($419 as mentioned above) makes them a great buy. Even though I just bought speakers, if I had the cash I'd buy a pair for $838. Wow!

  3. Hello again.

I was wondering if the speakers are still available?

    Thoughts?

    Thank you kindly. Fred.

    Hey, Fred,

They are available. I can't accommodate an audition at my residence at this time. Send me a PM with your number and where you're located. If we can work things out I could bring them to your place and you can hear them before making a final decision.

    Hi Scott,

I live in the western part of the state around Findlay and your ad caught my eye. Is there a chance that an audition could be arranged? It's a little over two hours to Medina from my residence, however I don't know exactly when I will be able to shake loose at present with the holidays looming.

Regardless, I wish you luck in selling them.

    Hey, sonder,

The forte's are still available. I can make the same offer I made to Fred (letting you hear them at your place). If you're interested send me a PM with your number and we can talk. I have family in Findlay. I noticed you're a Marillion fan. Misplaced Childhood has been in constant rotation for the past 30 years. Saw the boys three times in the '80s. Thanks for the kind wishes.

    Cheers, guys,

    Scott

  4. Hello, Klipsch Community,

For your consideration is a pair of WO Klipsch forte. I am the original owner. I purchased them in '88. They are original, no mods. They are consecutive serial #s. They include an extra set of factory K-75-K tweeter horn assemblies (horn, diaphram, magnet) purchased new from Klipsch. Also a set of factory K-53-K Phenolic midrange drivers also purchased new from Klipsch.

When I purchased the K-75 tweeter assemblies I installed one of the diaphrams into one of the forte's at the time because it had intermitent distortion. In hindsight it may have been a loose connection on the tweeter. Anyway, when I noticed the distortion I purchsed the tweeter and mid diaphrams in case any problems would occcur in the future.

I have the original receipt of purchase and the original manuals. At this time I am only listing my forte's here. I hope a member in good standing in this community might want them or know of someone who would.

These are for local pick-up or delivery within a reasonable distance of NE Ohio (Akron/Medina area).

    $650 OBO.

Thanks for viewing my ad and for your time.

    Cheers,

    Scott

  5. I am ashamed. I got so excited when I saw those beauties I lost all composure and concentration and didn't realize Alerts was a separate area. Doh!

  6. I've had them since '88. Bought them new from a local dealer. I had them sitting idle for the most part of the last 10 years while I played audiophile. Sad really and I hope you all can forgive me. I had them in service for a few years as background music and now they are back where they belong as the star of the system. I've always loved them and I'm really glad I didn't sell them when I was chasing some audiophile fantasy. I just knew something was suppose to be so much better. I mean everyone was telling me they were mid-fi at best and I needed some "good" speakers if I wanted to be taken seriously. Ok, enough fun. I've come to my senses and am enjoying music again with them and that's all good.

I've got a question or two. The forte's are original and stock. I had to replace a tweeter diaphram on one of them and I sourced that from Klipsch. I am not interested in updating or modding them but they do have 26 year old crossovers and I would like to know if there is anywhere recommedable that woud be able to check them. I believe Klipsch actually use to do this. Man, i wish they still did because I'd load them up and take them there.

So, any suggestions. Also, since I'm enjoying them so much and I'm not interested in modding/updating maybe I just shouldn't worrying if the crossovers are within spec? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

What wayward path did you take?

You started with Fortes and ended with Fortes, what was in the middle? This will be a good lesson for the youngon's.

Multi-driver dynamic floorstanders to to sealed box stand mounts. I enjoyed other set-ups I've had here and there but nothing ever came together easily or last very long or even had the sound I like. They were high maintenance and expensive (for me). It was my fault, I made it too hard. I had great sound from the forte's ten years ago and I should have just enjoyed the music. They were used with a tube pre into the amp section of an NAD 320BEE, source was an NAD 541i cdp and it was sooo good. But I just knew it should get even better (yeah, right). That's when the ugly journey began.

What the forte' does so well for me is full range, dynamic, detailed, transparent music that just sounds right and you don't have to spend a fortune to get there, just choose equipment wisely. The set I have listed has just recently come together and I can now honestly say that I'm just about back to where I was a decade ago. I do still miss that octal tube pre I had. The music from it was outrageous.

That's my story in a nutshell. I hope it makes sense.

  7. Thanks for the replies, guys. Might have to get the crossover rebuild kit from Critesspeakers at some point. Would just have to find someone I could completely trust to do the work. Never soldered and I don't want to practice on my forte's. As klipschfancf4 said, if they sound good, enjoy. They do sound fantastic! So that's wha I'm going to do.

bracurrie, absolutely, good placement is crucial. Thanks. I'll say though if you don't care about soundstage and imaging you just need to put them in good corners at 45 degrees and enjoy. That's why I love them!

  9. Gentleman,

    I hope all is well.

I would like to get your thoughts on pairing the Decware Zen SE84C+ with my forte's and KG4s. They will not need to play over 85db peaks. They will be used primarily for passive background listening in our family room (approx. 17'x20'x8'h). I'm looking for full rich tonality with weight to the music, especially at lower dbs (60-70db background music). For point of reference, my NAD 320BEE (50 watt ss) is doing a respectable job. But even tonality is not that good until around 75db. Even so the mids and highs are always to prominent, especially with the forte's.

If the Zen doesn't seem to be a good choice, what are your thoughts for amplification under $1K (way under would be best)?

Thanks for any thoughts. Let the fun begin.

    Cheers,

    Scott

  10. They won't sound their best until you modify the crossover and

replace the tweeter diaphragm with Bob Crites's titanium one.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for the post. I've wondered what my forte's would sound like with the crossovers overhualed or replaced. But since I've never used a soldering iron that's probably never going to happen. I may drop Ti dia. in some day since I have replaced the tweet dia. before. But I wonder if that's a case of something being more different than better. The CW III has Ti dia. so I'm sure they are good but the LS II and the K-horn both use the phenloic dia. like my forte'. I wonder why Klipsch hasn't changed those over to Ti? Anybody in SW Ohio or east central Indiana that has tricked out forte's that I could hear?

Anybody have anymore thoughts on the woofer rattle I've heard from my forte's?
