  1. No hitting below the belt. Standing 8 count is in effect. Support all conclusions,no "_____ sucks" ect.
  2. Another good point. I am happy with dvd video via my TNT2 but am thinking of upgrading to geforce2 GTS for hardcore gaming purposes. Please impart your Radeon knowledge so that I might choose wisely
  3. Thanks, Windstorm. That's what I needed to know. BTW anyone know if Philips AE comes with Power DVD? I'm not sure if mine did or not and I'm out of town right now. Thanks
  4. Well, I do have the Philips AE sound card, but let's just say I'm on a budget. I just need to know if a $99 drive will work better with what i've got than a 19 inch tv, a stereo and an el chipo DVD player.
  5. I'm thinking a mini-home theater for 2 in the small dining area of my new apartment. Small sweet spot with a love seat or a couple of comfortable chairs a few feet away from the monitor.
  6. I've got the V.400's a TNT2 ultra 800mhz Athlon and 19inch monitor. Since my TV is only 19 inch and I've allready got bad *** speakers for the PC I thought I'd ge a Creative DVD rom and do HT from my pc. 1. Is my TNT2 ultra sufficient? 2. What about downmixing 5.1 DD, DTS ect to 4.1? 3. I'm assuming that my monitor will give me video comperable to HD tv's. Is that a good assumption? Thanks
  7. Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture You absolutly must try this. If you think I'm kidding you will be very very suprised. If you get a good rendition of this your golden for an extereme base demo.
  8. Where did you here that Renegade. Spill it!!!! Ve have vays of making you talk.
  9. you should have a little Phillips control panel in your task bar. It will let you set base and treble levels.
  10. I muted the CD in the windows volume control and it reduced the idle noise on my v.400s to near nothing. I can still play cds with media player.
  11. Sound is subjective and to my ears the treble comming out of my pros was just too harsh. I didn't really notice it in music, but counter-strike really hurt my ears So I submit to you the patented e.coli tweeter attinuation method 1. Remove face plates from pros 2. Gently stuff 6 cotton balls into each horn 3. Replace face plates 4. If you desire even more attinuation, seal cotton balls into horn with scotch tape. Just be sure you get an nice even layer of cotton in the opening. Don't over stuff. You might even try some nice fluffy cotton gause Hope this helps others with treble sensative ears. Or at least others who play games with realistic sounding gun shots
  12. BTW, I killed off a bit of barely audible constant hiss by muting the CD in my volume control panel. I can still play cds thru media player too.
  13. The AE has a bass and treble slider and it works ok but I found a great solution for my personal tastes. I took off the face plates, stuffed cotton balls into the horn openings, taped them in place with scotch tape and put the plates back on. Sounds perfect to me now Gun shots in c-strike are just right.
  14. Just wait, your new preamp will start scratching in a couple of months. It doesn't bother me because it was a known problem that I read about before getting the speakers and I expected it. I'm still very happy with my v.400's. It's a price vs sound quality thing. And what's wrong with a little creative tinkering. The whole "backyard mechanics's" philosophy is my reason for building my own machine from the board up, constantly upgrading, tweeking and owning $200 computer speakers. In my opinion, if you don't truely enjoy tinkering, then you should save your money and put it into your home theater rather than a pc. Or maybe I'm just belong back in the days of the apple1 and trash80. It's hard to tell
  15. I just put in a Philips AE and the EAX effects are much better than my old Maxi Fortissimo, but it really brings out the treble and those horns are deadly. I want some kind of equalizer to tone down the high treble just a bit. What are you folks using with this set up?
