  1. My onkyo would do that. If it was off you could still watch and listen to the tv as long as the input was last on tv when the receiver was turned off. It would send the audio and video via hdmi bypassing the receiver, so the directv hdmi to receiver input to receiver output via hdmi to samsung tv hdmi in. The receiver was always in a standby mode so it would bypass and go through the receiver without being on and playing through the stereo speakers.
  2. Ok here is my first umc-1 question: Can Ii have the umc-1 off and just listen to the tv though the tv speakers? Or do I always have to have the umc-1 powered on and playing tv thought the klipsch speakers?
  3. Why not try the umc-1 like I am doing? The price is right for sure. If you dont like it you could sell it and use the upgrade card to get the xmc-1 at 40% off or you could probable sell the umc-1 for more with the card. I think i remember running into the harmony remote problem also. Kinda defeats the purpose of the harmony remote if you need to keep the onkyo out just to trigger the amps.
  4. I dont know maybe, but I sure like the looks of 3 woofers in those tall towers that I have.
  5. Fish, why would 2 woofers be in more demand than 3 woofers? I would think 3 would have been more in demand? I guess it shows what I know about audio. My umc-1 is dropping here tomorrow (wednesday)
  6. I would have tried something else anyway. Was looking at denon or marantz. Getting the umc-1 and a 40% on a future upgrade is a nice bonus. The xmc-1 is looking pretty good, have to see when it comes out and what the feed back is on it. The umc-1 will hopefully hold me over till then or I will try something else. for $499.00 and 40% off its worth a try, I could always sell it or use it somewhere else for 2 channel.
  7. I would think that would work, as you said it would add an extra step if it works right.
  8. Not to hijack my own thread but does anyone know why when klipsch redid the reference line why did they go from 3 woofers to 2 woofers in the reference 2 line. Also what else did they change? Just curious!
  9. Here is the email I sent onkyo and there reply. Model: TX-NR818 Serial: N/A Comments: Looking to buy another receiver. I need a receiver that has trigger outputs for my amplifiers. So when I turn the receiver on the amps will also turn on at the same time. I have an old sr706 and i can not turn on the amps with that unit either, do you have any models that will do that? Hello John: Unfortunately- our receiver with 12 volt triggers are only able to trigger for ZONE 2 and 3 functionality- not for the main listening zone. Thank you for contacting Onkyo and Integra USA Product Support, if you need further assistance feel free to call us at: Onkyo Product Support: 800-229-1687 Integra Product Support: 800-225-1946 Product Support Team Hours of Operation: Monday thru Friday 9am to 8pm EST Saturday & Sunday 10am to 4pm EST
  10. Thanks we will see soon. I do have a slight hiss from the speakers but I dont know it the sub is causing it, I think its just the amps. ou have to put your ear up to the speaker to hear it though. I ordered a xlr cable so I may just try it and see. Wonder why the emotiva manual says to use the xlr.
  11. My sub is only about 5 feet away from my receiver, you think I should try a balanced cable? Have fun on the cruise. I was in Orlando in December daughter competed at Disney for national cheerleading.
  12. So you need a 3rd zone to do it? What do you do hit the zone 3 button on the remote after you hit the receiver power on button? So what are you waiting for then Buy Some Amps!!!!!!!!
  13. Ok, Youthman and other UMC-1 owners. Here is a question for you. In the manual it says that you should connect the sub with the xlr balanced cables if you have the option. Did any of you do that? Pros and cons? Just trying to decide if I need a xlr cable or not. Why is it recommended by emotive? From the manual: 5. XLR Subwoofer Output This line-level balanced XLR output connects to the XLR input of your powered subwoofer. If your powered subwoofer has a choice of inputs, we recommend using the XLR balanced type. This gives better noise rejection, especially for longer cable runs.
  14. Not a good idea. Your amplifier will pull too much juice for the switched outlet in the receiver to handle it. CD and DVD players, tuners, cooling fans all okay, just not amps. I believe the reasoning is in order to add the plethora of modern features that Onkyo seems to come out with soonest in their midlevel lineup, something has to go. Hence main zone 12v triggers and switched outlets no more. Sad but true. Bill I did not mean to plug the amp into the receiver. I believe you use a wall wart and plug that in to the receiver and the male end of the jack to the amp trigger. So when the receiver turns on it sends power to the amp trigger. I have not done this but was told that is a work around for no trigger on the receiver, but I also had not switched power outlet on the Onkyo.
  15. All I can say is I had the Onkyo 706 also, and when I connected my amps, it was like a whole new home theater. Believe me money is tight everywhere unless your Youthman LOL Jk. Just kidding Youthman. But your speakers will really come alive with the addition of amps even over a new receiver. The amps were the best thing I added to my system my sub is a close second though.
  16. Yeah, I bet they will listen!! I am sure it has been brought to there attention before now. No more "Donkey O" for me.
  17. I am telling you, thats why I was not considering onkyo anymore. I always had to turn my amps on and off manually . If the receiver has a switched outlet on back you can do it. but the onkyo I had or was looking at did not. So Onkyo is out for me Pal.Also I will say that the amps brought my system alive. Onkyo could not do that alone. So amps are the way to go. IMHO
  18. there is no way. I emailed onkyo and they say its only for zones 2 or 3. thats why i am not going to onkyo, and other reasons also.
  19. From what I have found it looks like the cable needs to be mono. Can anyone confirm this?
  20. Thats what I am looking at but they sell stereo and mono 3.5mm jacks. So I am not sure which to order. You think its stereo?
  21. Anyone have the answer?? What kind of 3.5mm cables do I need to use the switched outlets? Are they stereo or mono cables?
  22. Order complete and a cmx-6 also. That xmc-1 looks like it will be sick! I here a June or July release date can anyone confirm that? If its as good as it sounds like it is going to be I will be upgrading to that and sell the umc-1 or move it somewhere else. Thanks for dealing with me guys! Now you will only have to deal with the many set up questions I am going to have for sure with this unit. What kind of 3.5mm cables do I need to use the switched outlets? Are they stereo or mono cables?
  23. Yeah, and if I don't like it I can always blame my old pal Youthman, after all he can't always be right with his advise to me! LOL Just kidding youthman!!!!! He has not steered me wrong yet.
