I dont think that is true for their sale items. It clearly says "All sales final" and nothing about 30 day return. So I think that is out.

So has the handshake improved with the xbox since the firmware update? Are the audio drops all gone now also? Do you know if I order one does it come with the latest software or do they all need to be updated when you get it?

I agree with you, that 40% discount it a big plus if the xmc-1 can deliver and not have issues. What quirks did you have that disappeared? Any regrets getting the umc-1? What is your impression on video gaming or movies? When is the xmc-1 coming out?

Its not just hear the difference, but its about the video processing quality as well for me. Trying to figure which gives me the best of both. The umc-1 does have issues and I am a little concerned that emotiva has not been able to correct all these issues by now. Its also about features, The emotiva is clearly lacking some of the newer features that I would like to have. Emotive does not offer a 30 day return on the sale item from what I can tell. I would like to have Audyssey, hdmi v1.4a and apple airplay also. I am not ruling out the umc-1, but I cant hear any of these systems or see how they function except Denon at a best buy store. Thanks Youthman , Believe me I am listening to what you are saying thats why I have not pulled the trigger yet. Just dont know if I will regret going cheap price with the umc-1 and be missing out on some features and have "quirks" that I have to deal with or find work arounds and then try to teach the family how to use it with the work arounds. What is your experience with the umc-1 for video? Is it better, worse or about the same as your last receiver? I have been looking for some reviews of the umc-1 and I have not found may positive in the little that I did find.

Ok, these are some that I have narrowed down to: Emotiva umc-1 $499.00, Marantz sr6006 $799.00, Marantz av7005 $1199.00 pre/pro, Denon 3312ci $777.77, Denon 4311ci, $???? all prices are delivered. I am still stuck deciding.

Vic are you having any issues when you switch hdmi imputs, like going from the tv to xbox to blueray? I believe someone said there can be a 8-9 second delay before the umc-1 recognizes the hdmi imput. If there is that kind of delay, it may be a deal breaker to me. I am too impatient to wait that long to game or watch tv.

I would agree with everything Youthman stated, it's a great unit for music and movies.I recall when he was considering the umc and asked about it.I am always hesitant to tell someone to buy an item just cause I like it.He did his research and decided to go for it, sounds like he likes his as much as I like mine.I consider it the best money I ever spent on a prepro but that's just my take, ymmv. The 972 as mentioned is a fantastic unit, it also has a few quirks but the sound can compete with just about anything I ever heard, again, a stone cold bargain.So....if music is your thing Denon won't do, if movies or games are it, Denon/Marantz have great features. I am trying to find a good balance that does them all good. Mostly 1 gaming, 2 movies and music.

Sounds pretty awesome to me. My son plays Black Ops a lot. It's great being able to actually hear people try to sneak up on you and know exactly where they are at. I love my UMC-1 but it may not be for everyone. Just do your homework and know what the quirks are so there are no surprises. IMO, can't come close to it's performance for the price. Hey old friend, I was wondering when you would chime in here. Black ops? You need to buy him modern warfare 3! You are right for the price now its hard to beat, but it is lacking some modern features for networking and airplay which are nice but I could do without. I think right now my choices are the marantz av7005 seperate, emotiva umc-1 or denon 4311, or 3312. Help me out youthman, you never steered me wrong before!

I do like that 4311. But since I have amps I was figuring I could get more bang for my buck with a pre amp separate. But the 4311 is a contender for sure.

Ok, I was hoping to be able to work a little better price for those interested but for a brand new factory sealed full warranty from an authorized Marantz dealer, Model AV7005 preamp/processor with networking and apple airplay the price is $1199.00 DELIVERED to your door. That still looks like a decent price, I was just hoping to get us closer to the $1000.00 mark shipped. Anyway let me know what you guys think. The Marantz sr6006 can go for $799.00 delivered also.
