  1. Thanks Trey for pointing me to the CDT-3800 II over the CDT-5800 II. Scott
  2. About two years ago, maybe a little more I bought the Klipsch Icon XF-48 speakers as my fronts and the XF-23 as my center. Recently upgraded to a new plasma, a Panasonic 65GT50 and have the itch to go to a 5.1 and maybe to a 7.1 sometime next year. Ceiling speakers is the best option and acceptable (barely) to my wife so don't want to push my luck as she does not know how much I spent on the plasma []. My receiver is a Denon 3312ci incase it matters and the subwoofer is a Klipsch Sub-12HG. Wanted to get feedback if the Klipsch 5800 II speakers would be a good fit for my front speakers? Have not heard them as no stores locally seem to have them to listen to? I understand it is not required to match the fronts to the rears and open to other brands of speakers (SpeakerCraft,DefTech, etc.), just fond of Klipsch, but again open. I am looking to spend $300-400 per speaker (for 5.1). I did a search for the 5800 in the forums, but most of the posts are not of the II version, just the initial one. I do have room to properly place the two rear speakers to the side and slight rear of the main seating area. If pictures help I can take some. Thanks in advance. Scott

    Sub-12

I would second tommyboy's suggestion to check out Circuit City if you have some near you. This was one of a few items that actually we decent/good since they did not mark up them beyond the pre-liquidation price. In San Antonio the Circuit City's have the Sub-12 priced at $349 this week (30% off $499), the lower price took effect on Thursday. Last week they were 25% off at $375.00, price again was lowered on Thursday. They may go down another 5-10% this coming Thusday, but I ended up buying on today. Another Circuit City location had three last week, but ended up selling out this week and the store I bought it from had 5 last week and now only has three. I double checked with Klipsch two weeks ago and they also confirmed the warranty is still valid as long as the receipt does not state "As Is" for the item. Best of luck.
  4. I think they sound great, but when watching Dark Night on Blu-ray you could tell it was missing the deep bass that is needed. Only using it for movies/TV not really a big music listener. Still playing with my receiver Onkyo SR806 so maybe they can even sound better. The wife factor was part of the reason I got them, she wanted some mirage nanosats speakers or Bose. Not sure if BestBuy still has them on sale (in store) but when I got them last week (the XL-23's) they had them for $320.00 and mentioned to me that they were onsale until Jan. 2. Thanks for everyone's feedback as I canceled the $229 Sub-10 from Amazon (backordered) and will wait a couple months before getting the Sub-12.
  5. Hi everyone, Recently purchased three of the XL-23's as my front right & left and center speakers. Been a while since I bought any new HT equipment and wanted to get away for the pervious Sony HTIB that I had. So instead of going the route my father swears by (Bose cubes) I opted for the this ICON series. The XL-23 speakers sound great and look nice, but of course still lack the bass needed. Thinking about the Sub-10 as it is onsale at Amazon for $229. Does anyone think it might be too weak for the XL-23's or should I go for the Sub-12? Would like the X Icon series subs but spent enough on a new TV, three speakers and a new receiver (Okyno SR806). The speakers and the future sub would be primarly only used for movies/home theater. My wife does not mind the size of the sub-10 or sub-12 or where I will place it (but she minds if I mount speakers on the wall). Any thoughts would be great or if I should be looking at any other subs from Klipsch (can spend about $400 or so) or another others. Thanks! Scott
  6. Forgot to mention that BestBuy had the XL-23's on sale for $319 as of yesterday, which is why I moved so fast. Even though my wife was not too happy, think she will be fine once they are hooked up.
  7. Thanks everyone for your insights. I bought three of the XL-23 speakers and have one on hand now, had to order the other two since they were not instock. Also liked the XF-48 floor stand speakers, but they are out of my price range at the moment. Happy to report that taking off the stands allows me to put one of them in the center speaker slot in my TV stand. Also ordered an Onkyo 806 and should have it and the speakers by Thursday. Now just need to find a good sub, thinking either the Icon XW-500D, RSW-10D or one of the Mirage subs. Willing to spend $600-800 once I get income tax next year. Again thanks for helping me out as I am learning alot reading many of the threads.
  8. Hi James, Sorry I thought I put the XL-12 as one of the centers I was considering (I listed the XL-23 by accident, edited the post) I wish I could get all the three XL-23 for the three front speakers, but I measured and I will not be able to put the center XL-23 in the center speaker spot in my stand. The other two center speakers WC-24 and XL-12 are Icons, but not sure if they would be a good match. I went to local home theater/audio store down the street and the XL-23 did sound good, but they did not have either of the other center speakers to see if they sounded good together. I may be open to having the XL-23 as surrounds, but would have to use stands. At least my wife would be happy as they would not be on the wall. For the receiver, I am willing to spend $700-900 (hopefully in the next couple of months). Most likely I will opt to buying a new receiver, looking at a couple that are Pioneer, Onkyo or Denon. The receiver will mostly be used for movies and not as much for music. Thanks again for your insight and I probably will start a new thread. Lee
  9. Looking to buy my first set of speakers for a new TV but was curious if you could mix the X Icon Series with the W Icon Series. I understand mixing across complete series like Reference and Icon speakers is not recommended. I am looking at purchasing two XL-23 speakers for the left (OneCall is willing to sell them at $360 each) and right front, but was interested in the WC-24 or XL-12. Both would fit in my TV stand under the LCD, but the WC-24 has a higher sensitivity. I plan on listening to both, if they are at my local home theater store or Best Buy/Magnolia. Also if I added the rear surround speakers (not right now, lack of $$) should they be Klipsch or can they be another brand? Wanting to find some good quality surround speakers that are not too big and can be placed on the wall without causing too much of an issue with the wife. Now researching AV receivers, 7.1 setup with at least 3 HDMI inputs. Any input is greatly suggested as I am leaning toward Klipsch speakers over others. Thanks in advance.
