Yet another interesting fact... well to me anyway - The woofers in my consecutive serial number boxes also have consecutive serial numbers as do the mids and tweeters! Is this because they only apply the klipsch lables to the drivers at the time of box assembly?

Indeed, well I had a look at the crossover values quickly and here's what I found - 'Input +' to 2.5mH inductor to 'woofer +' 'Input +' also to 1uF capacitor to 'Terminal 5' on autotransformer 'Input -' to 'Terminal 0' on autotransformer as well as 'woofer -', 'squawker -' and 'tweeter -' 'Terminal 1' on autotransformer to 0.5mH inductor to 'squawker +' 'Terminal 1' on autotransformer also to 2uF capacitor to 'Tweeter +' ...just for interest's sake

Interesting. My crossovers are similar but there is only a single capacitor on the left where your pic shows 2 piggybacked and the transformer (3110A) has connections on tags marked '0', '1' and '5' which dont appear to be in the same places as the ones on your pic.

That's them! Ok so to recap. They're Model H 1963 or 4, Maple finish, Unknown what the '25' stands for- maybe grill? Designated as 12" with '-12' even though 8" was no longer available, EV SP12B cast basket woofer, Atlas Mid (V), EV K77? Still dont know about the crossover marked Type 4... Would you say the grill is what Klipsch refers to as Cane? Regarding the serial numbers... as there are only 2 digits after the date code, is it logical to assume the digit before the date code is the lot of 100 rather than 1000. ie 7B03 is the 703rd speaker produced in that year?

Looks like it is an EV SP12B but of a different vintage to the one shown on the electrovoice archive site. Attached is a 1966 ad for the SP12B and the coaxial SP12TRXB

Yeah, I found a pic of the electrovoice e-v four. Looks like the same woofer... not sure what the model number is... will keep looking

if you look at the electrovoice coaxial unit in this thread - http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/77315.aspx the casting of the basket looks pretty similar as does the reddish/brown suspension...

Ha ha, not quite. I'm in South Africa and bought them from an old guy for the equivalent of about $60... He advertised them as "Klipsch speakers in big heavy wooden boxes - old but in good condition". Guess he didn't know quite what he had. I wont be butchering them, don't worry. I love classic old hi-fi so they'll just join the collection. I'll dig out a leak stereo 20 later - I think they may go well together... I actually really like the way they sound as they are. I was watching Eric Clapton's Crossroads 2007 Guitar Festival DVD earlier and they rocked... No other markings on the woofer. No suffix, just K22 and the serial number. Later I'll open the other one and double check.

Well I just got a pair of Model H's and after doing some research & reading all about them being bass-light compared to the horn loaded Klipsch models, I was expecting no bottom end. Actually I was suprised to hear they how good they sounded. A horn-hoaded or even ported 15 like my Tannoy DMT's or JBL's do have more bass but are more than double the size. I dont think I would ask for more from a 12 in a small sealed box. They certainly have better bottom-end than the horrible boomy plastic-sounding bottom from many modern mini bookshelf speakers. It probably depends on musical taste as well. I've been listening to them with "analog" music - guitar, bass, drums, piano, hammond, brass.... They may struggle with more electronic synthesized bass type music - haven't tried yet. Also haven't tried them for home theatre.

Thanks guys, great info here. I figured things might be a little confusing from back then. I didn't think there was mdf back then but the inside of the cabinet doesnt look like a wood venneer, it is smooth and brown like the surface of mdf or hdf - no grain. Also there is no serial number stamped into the rear top plate - is this usual for H's? Yes the tweeter horn is chrome... Any ideas on the Type 4 crossover? I only see refence to Type C, E etc. They are in good nick, apart from a couple of marks on the lacquer finish and certainly don't sound 45+ years old! I reckon I got a bit of a bargain...

Hi all, I have just aquired a pair of Model H's. Looks like H-M25-12 and serial numbers 7B02 & 7B03 (see attached pic). These numbers don't seem to correspond to the Klipsch model number coding as far as I can see. They look like MDF cabinets with a wood veneer. I'll post some more pics later. Anyone able to shed any light on these? Thanks, John
