  1. The "contact cleaner from Radio Shack" solution worked perfectly for me. My 2007 ProMedia 2.0's (that somehow beat the odds and made it to 2011) are now working perfectly again.
  2. For whatever it's worth, I fixed mine easily with a $10 bottle of contact cleaner from Radio Shack. (As others have suggested on this thread and elsewhere) Had speakers since 2007. Used and loved occasionally - not my main home listening setup, but I've used them for travel and parties and such and was in love with the sound and lack of need for a subwoofer. Symptom: The usual "scratchy noise when turning volume knob" thing others have mentioned. As of yesterday (July 2011) the left speaker cut out entirely and getting sound out of the right speaker was problematic. I tried several cables and audio sources to determine it was the PM20's and not the sound sources. Solution: Remove faceplate, couple sprays of contact cleaner into the pots, rotated each knob 25-50 times until I could tell (by the newly "loose" feel) that the solution had worked its way into the pots. The problem is now totally fixed. Back to "Day 1 out of box" functionality. Hope one more piece of anecdotal evidence is helpful to somebody out there.
  3. Bill, thanks for the advice and the welcome! I've been thinking of going that route as well. I think I just might do it. I do have a spare receiver I can use for the task. The main advantage to sticking with the Promedia 4.1's is that I can hide the amp+sub away in the corner as opposed to taking up more shelf space I don't have. If anybody else reading this thread has upgraded the speakers on their Promedias, I'd love to hear about it.
  4. The speakers aren't broken, actually - I'm just wondering about upgrade possibilities. I'd like to step up to something like the RSX-4, perhaps, but not sure how the 8ohm/4ohm thing would work out.
  5. I'd like to upgrade the satellite speakers on my beloved old Promedia 4.1. Any suggestions? I saw another forum member mention that they'd upgraded their Promedia to use Klipsch's RSX-4 satellites, but those are 8-ohm speakers while the Promedia ships with 4-ohm speakers, so I don't know what kind of problems that'd cause. (Ideally I'd actually like to use my Promedia 4.1 as a 2.1 setup in this small room.)
