  1. The dock can be repaired. Just look through the positings and you will find that you need to repair the big caps on the print plate located in the sub. These caps are pretty standard and common and any ordinairy repair shop can do this. I recommend not to do this yourself as you need to have the skills replacing the caps. In a previous post you will find which one to replace and just print it, together with the picture that is also on one of the posts. It worked with my IFI and so it did with others. The costs are relative low. The caps cost you a few bucks each and of course you need to pay the repairman for his time (about half an hour of work). Succes
  2. Hi Guys, As Dbert switched his IFI off every time after usage, I deliberately left it in Stand By mode as this should e possible..However after 3 weeks of fantastic fun, my IFI is back where it was.. Distorted and no control over the volume and base.People, don’t leave the IFI on stand by modus if not needed, apparently the 25 volt cap is getting to hot or so and start to malfunction. Is there anything we can do there because eventually t will hit some other repaired IFI’s as well at some stage (depends on how long the non-stop usage is)I guess it is back to the repair man…. as I almost certainly know it is the big 25V cap Ron
  3. Picked up my subwoofer today. The mechanic replaced the 5 big ones.. Connected everything and YYYEEESSSSS worked like a charm again... So happy, after a couple of years new life in my IFI, THANKS DBERT!!!!!!!!!! Everything works nicely. I owe you... Gents, replace those crap capacitors and enjoy your system as it was originally designed for.. Again many thanks to Dbert. Klipsch, are you following this, the solution was so easy, you guys should have stepped in, which you FAIL to do... So bad. It costed me about USD80 to get the system working again. I hope Klipsch makes a gesture to all of us here for keeping us in the dark and not stepping up to the plate. I will send Klipsch a separate email to express my dissatisfaction. As I still view this as their problem and their responsibility... Guys, go and replace those 5 big caps. It worked for me like a charm.. Dbert, yr the KING - So happy!! :-)
  4. Hi RichSad, Following the break thru of Dbert I ordered the caps he replaed at Digikey, as outlined by Dbert and shipped them over to the Netherlands (Cost USD 30.00). Received the package yesterday and googled for an experienced electronic mechanic in my neighbourhood (yes, like you I don't trust my solding skills). This will morst likely cost me another US50, but it is worth the money if my IFI is back in business.. Don't do it yourselves if you think you're lacking technical skills. The canges of you breaking things is bigger than fixing it. Brought the subwoofer in this morning and hopefully he is able to finish it today, otherwise Monday. I will report back with the outcome, so fingers crossed..
  5. Great news dbert... Hopefully this is the solution. I just ordered the caps you described and have them replaced by a technician as I don't trust my soldering skills... Will post later to let you all know if it works for my as well. can't wait to use the IFI again.. regards
  6. Great news, I assume the part your showing sits in the Sub, right? Thanks Ron
  7. Given the the number of responses it would be a good marketing suggestion of Klipsch to help out the people that bought problem IFI docks. Just think how you feel if you bought sometimg and it breaks without reason and the supplier telling you that the problem does not exist. If Klipsch is accepting its responsibility as manufacturer and replaces these faultly systems they create thrue ambassordors for the brand. This is what Apple is doing so well. Faulty device, replacement whitout asking. Everybody is suprised by their success but I can tell you that their return policy is greatly contributing to their success. I cant beleive you guys do't see that??!! Let's start 2010 better than we left 2009 and Klipsch making the gesture to the people here. If it is true what Klipsch is telling us, "the problem is not known" and therefore diminimus, it schouldn't cost a lot to help us out and you stand for the quality your pretent on your website. I can't understand Klipsch is hurting its trade mark over this.. Regards, Ron Wessels, the Netherlands
  8. Sounds like a good solution. Please keep us in loop on how you go with the Keiga. Again, I dont care if the volume is a little less as I want my Ifi working again in a normal way. Its just sad that Klipsch is behaving as they are. What do you reckon to be the costs??
  9. It looks like they completely ignore this. Again Klipsch claims that the number of faulty docs is deminimus and to be ignored. Unbelievable as this seems to be a little bigger. Here is a copy of the mail traffic I had with the company... Maybe other members here should do this as well and the issue moves up in their prio lists... It would already good if we can bypass the doc and can start use the IFI where is was designed for.... ---------------------------------------------------------------- It could be a faulty batch of docks but like I said it was never a recall or anything like that on them When replying to this email, please include the original message and all replies.Derek Schultz -PromediaPhone: 1-317-860-8505 Fax: 1-888-606-5776-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Klipsch Group, Inc. I’m a little surprised that this issue is not known to Klipsch as you can see that this problem is occurring on a number of units and not an isolated problem.Could it be a faulty series of docks? I’ve bought the IFI over the internet and the seller is no longer online….Is there absolutely no possibility to ship over the dock? Have it send through DHL?Of course I will bear the costs. Alternatively, do you know where I can order the dock in Europe as I hitting a brick wall searching for an alternative dealer. Your assistance is highly appreciated. Let me first introduce myself, I’m Ron Wessels living in the Netherlands, Europe.I hope you can help me with my problem with the Klipsch IFI 2.1 After careful research I have decided to buy the Klipsch IFI 2.1 for my computer at home. It should be one of the best out there. Although not coming cheap I decided to go for quality and purchased the set.The set worked beautiful but after a year or so the problems occurred. As my warranty has expired I searched the web to locate what possibly could be the problem.I landed on you forum site : http://forums.klipsch.com/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=ifi&o=Relevance and what I found was shocking. The problem I have seems to be almost a general problem. What is even more shocking, it seems that Klipsch is not supportive in trying to fix the issues and help their clients. I do understand that, most likely, there are lots of satisfied customers as well but it seems that there is still a more than fair amount of people out there experiencing the same problems as I do. I would be more than happy to buy a replacement dock, but according the blogs I’m reading this is not a guarantee for success. My question to you is , is Klipsch working on a possible solution? Can you guarantee that by buying a replacement dock the problem is solved? Can you please help me and your other customers facing the same problem?I would love to get the IFI back to the fantastic sound system it once was. Your response is highly appreciated Kind regards,Ron Wessels
  10. I have also sent an email to support asking for help, cc't Sarah Knight (press contact) and Fred klipsch (CEO) Let's wait and see what comes out, Regards, Ron
  11. Hi there, Ron here from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I'm following this blog with great interest as my IFI also has the same problems. I am not a technician and I can only hope that a permanent solution for this malfunction can be found. I really do not understand Klipsch not doing anything as this potential will damage their brand name.... Reading the posts here, the malfunction in the dock (correct me if I'm wrong).. Would it be an idea to try other docks, e.g. promedia, is the connection cables are the same to see if this fixed this? or is this to simple? Ron
