I'm cheap and broke and need a record cleaner
if interested i can help you build a record cleaner fairly cheap...all you need is a old record player and a old vacuum cleaner motor, mine cost $36 to build only because i enclosed the vacuum cleaner motor in a wooden box and i bought a used elbow connector and suction tube made by VPI...you can make your own but these work better and they aren't that much when you consider the money you save, button on left side of box turns on vacuum....cleaning fluid applied manually... entire unit is getting stained and sealed with tung oil as we speak so it will look as great as it works,...i learned a little from each listed reference...

I've enjoyed the Sonata on a Well tempered - great midrange! Nice to hear the Master is a big step up. How did you get the Grado's to fit on the Thorens? I know the TD-160 Mk1 does not allow top mounting cartridges like the Grado.

Ya I love the blackplates' there was a bugle boy in there as well.
Kinda makes me wish I had something other than the Mesa-boogie to use them in.
if you really need a place to put some extra RCA blackplates you can put them in my:

It's truly been a pleasure helping you out. You are a true gentleman! They'll only sound better as they age like a fine wine! Now if we can find some RCA 6201s for your CD player you'll be set!The G-Man sure fixed me up with some really sweet tubes. I changed out the tubes in the VRD and the Peach, only listened for about an hour, but, clearer, more detailed, better soundstage. I guess I was one of the dis-belivers, if you get the good ones, it is well worth the money.

Did you get any 12AT7s or 5751s to try in the CDP, the lower gain in those tubes versus the 12AX7 that come in the unit really gives more definition to the sound....My money's on the tubes you put in the CDP made the biggest change ... I love Bugle Boys...did you notice how give a quick burst of white light when the unit is turned on, BBs are reknowned for doing this more than any other tube, you don't need to put the screws in the case of the CDP if you are going to roll several types as I know how those screws can be rascals.. the Telefunken sure didn't hurt...Hooray for Thebes! As good as the Sonata sounded on my Thorens 160, I was blown away today when I upgraded to the Grado - Reference Series - Master1. Unbelieveable vinyl bliss!! Highly recommended!

if you are buying tubes off of Ebay for example you'd need one and they can go for as little as $350, but if you are buying from reliable sources(people here, Brent Jesse, SND tubes, Tube World, Doug's Tube, etc.) then you really don't need one as these people are very reliable...lemme know how you like your VRD's...

I've got almost 100hrs on mine and think it outsounds its reputation. An absolutely gorgeous sounding tube with an unusual physical characteristic. The glass of the tube is actually slightly pinched at the about the point of the upper mica spacer. This reduces the tubes diameter at that point resulting in a subtle hourglass shape. The reason for this was for the bottle to actually clamp the upper mica space at its rounded corners resulting in a more rigid, less microphonic, structure. The result? A tube that defines the Amperex house sound: Lively, transparent & detailed with extended highs, yet absolutely no grain, with a punchy, dynamic bass. Mids lucid and palpable.

greatest improvement when rolling preamps
i totally agree, i always change preamp tubes 1st, changing the preamp tubes in the VRDs made great improvement versus changing power tubes which make more subtle improvement in the VRDs and most importantly to me i really felt more improvement with changing the preamp tubes in the VRDs 1st over the Blueberry preamp tubes and as you can see from my profile i used the best... i actually experimented and changed the Blueberry preamps first and still thought the preamp tube change in the VRDs first had more sonic benefit...just my experience

i got way more sound improvement when doing the vrds over my blueberry...i never owned a Peach but only recommended from my personal experience

be sure you didn't put the 12AX7 tube in the 12AU7 slot in the Peach,
I think you may mean "VRD and not "Peach" as there are no 12AX7's or 12AU7's in the Peach. The Peach takes 6922/6DJ8's and or a 6H30 depending on the version.
