  1. RF-7 are more refined and better suited for the digital age.

    Not in my opinion.

It might be easier to power the Chorus II's but it takes a good room, extreme critical placement and a great synergy of equipment to make them really sing. If you haven't spent alot of time trying its very hard to predict what the Chorus II is capable of. Personally I have found for my tastes I like a ton of power pushing the K-48 in the Chorus II.

Also I've been playing red book cds on my Chorus II's for twenty years. They do just fine with digital IMHO.

Now if you can buy them both at the same price I think you would be money ahead with the RF-7's because they do bring a better dollar in the market.

  2. Nah, not that good. I just thought a little music would be nice with the wine.Wink

Although I was pulling for the Saints, I really thought Payton Manning and the Colts were gonna beat them by at least the spread. The chips absolutely fell the Saints way. If you play that game 6 times I suspect the Colts win 5 of them. It was just a magical day for the Saints. I was totally floored by the whole deal. Next year it will be the Colts against ????

  3. I had some company last night and the man said he never was a fan of Klipsch to speak of (neither was I till I started working with them with a SET amp)

    SET12

That sentence says a lot to me. Personally, I like Klipsch and the way they sound a lot. I'm sure there is improving on the sound with better parts but to not be a fan of Klipsch except for one thing or another is just not where I stand or probably 90% of the people here.

Up until a dozen yrs ago I was never interested in Klipsch, they just didn't do much for me at all. Then I built a transmitting tube amplifier and I needed something efficient so I borrowed a pair of Forte's and found that there was some magic here with them! I still wanted more performance, so I ran into ALK's work through a buddy as I heard a dramatic transformation of his LaScala's. I knew that I basically liked the Fortes but I needed more information from them. So I built a pair of outboard networks to be able to swap parts out in minutes so I could find the best components to my taste. And I have to a very large extent!

If you follow other forums around the net you will find most folks going to the extremes you are actually building their own speakers as well in search of that perfect sound.

The fact is for myself after being where I am today with these networks I am not likely to ever be satisfied with the stock components and this is probably so for most speakers Klipsch or others.

I'm glad your satisfied and others as well but as it is there are many people on this forum that have done some modifications to there networks in one form or another.

I'm satisfied with my Klipsch speakers. I would wager to bet that out of the 40,000 users and probably another 20,000 lurkers on the forum probably only 30-40 actually have modified networks. I believe most of the folks are getting there networks back to factory spec. Maybe they are using a better cap here and there but still basically a stock network. Unless I am misunderstanding I believe Bob is returning the crossovers back to factory specs as well.

I just think most people buy Klipsch speakers because they like them and they like the way they sound. I don't think the majority of folks are going to spend another 2,000 in network upgrades just to get the sound they are looking for. They will end up shopping longer for the speaker that fits their needs.

Mine are certainly an extreme but I'm after extreme performance and this is what it took. It would of been easy for me to spend $10,000 even on a simple Forte Network but I spent $2,000 and the performance out of the Forte is easily equal to a $10,000 or more commercial product today. I know its hard to believe and that person I had here was impressed and its just what it took for him.

It would be hard for me to believe that your Forte's can outclass a Klipschorn or a Jubilee. I am not saying that to insult your speakers in anyway.

For me just having the name Klipsch associated to what he heard was very meaningful regardless whether modified or not.

Networks are for me one of the last undiscovered areas of improving a system, they seem like they are just taken for granted. That maybe fine for some but its not for me. There are many fine replacement networks from Bob Crites or ALK or even DeanG, but the components I have used here go well beyond the average network upgrade or simple back to factory spec's. The difference isn't subtle it is profoundly better, Steen Duelund often had more money tied up in his networks than the cost of the drivers themselvesI and I can now understand why!

I would imagine your upgraded speakers sound fantastic. Do you use exotic speaker wires and interconnects as well?

Anyone is welcome to hear them for themselves if they live in the Midwest.

    Thanks for the offer.

  5. I have a pair of Chorus IIs that I push with a Marantz 8500 avr. Clean sound but lacks the punch I would expect with 15's & passives. I borrowed a friends Crown Xti 2000 to see what I was missing with the Marantz and had noise problems from the start. I used the Marantz as the pre-amp. A loud hum was heard from both speakers as well as a turn on pop. I figured the hum was a ground loop so I used used a universal power cord with the ground removed and a set of directional rca's and still had the hum. I disconnected the inputs to the Crown and still had hum. Once the Crown was turned on an hum was present, even if you shut it off the hum remained. I talked with the owner of the Crown and he had no problems with it before or after it was in my hands. He does run only pro gear for everthing in his home but I can't see how that makes a difference. Bottom line for me was disapointment. I picked up a pair a Forte IIs that sound much better on my Marantz than the Chorus IIs. Keep amp searching or settle for the Marantz/Forte combo? Fustrating to say the least.

Sure makes me wonder about those Crown Xti 2000's.

I've had Chorus II's for 20 years and have had equipment that just plain sounded lean and thin. But I've also seen the other side. I demoed the Forte II's with the Chorus II's back in 90 at my local dealer for weeks before making my choice. Everything the Forte II's could do the Chorus II could do bigger and better.

Once you get a Chorus II dialed in(equipment, room, and positioning) its just a real treat. I like vintage Marantz myself with its warm flavor. Also like Crown or QSC for their raw power. That K-48 is like a sledge hammer.

  6. I need to have the qsc at the absolute lowest volume setting to not hear hiss at my seat. It is a serious problem on any dynamic music.

Thats a shame. Something is just not right.

My Crown K2 I can have the gains maxed and my pre full throttle and not the slightest hiss with my ear at the horns(midrange or tweeter).

Hope you get it resolved cause its great when you have dynamics in spades[Y]

  7. I'm probably giving numbers too much credit. (nearly all qsc/crown amps have SNR spec'd at 100, same as my GX3, which is why I abandoned the pro amp idea)

But from reputable companies, you'd hope the specs would be a useful tool in amp shopping. I had the same problem when I tried an xti-2000 on my rf-7's. Noise floor was unbearable.

Decided klipsch's are just way more efficient that the speakers those amps were designed for and not a good fit.

Something is a miss. I cant speak for the Xti-2000 or personal expercience with the GX3.

My QSC SRA 2422 had a zero noise floor and the Crown K2 I use now has zero . I repeat zero. Its music from blackness. I am not sure what the problem is with your setup or just bad amps or what but pro amps might not do the details and give an air to the music as some of the finer amps and also might have a fan in some of them that make an irratible noise but noway is there a hiss or hum from a good properly functioning pro amp. I'm not suggesting you stick with a pro amp obviously you are looking for something else but again what you are experiencing isn't the norm. Heck Klipsch demoed their high end speakers with a Crown K1. I very much doubt there was humming and hissing going on all over the place. I've had consumer amps that hissed like crazy through my Chorus II's but never the QSC or Crown.

  8. I like it loud, and the denon sounded stressed, so last week I picked up a qsc gx3 pro amp. Power is awesome, but with sources off and the amp at 1/2 volume, I get an audible hiss/hum from 10 feet. (and I can hear the idle fan on the qsc from 20 feet)

Don't blame it all on QSC. You did happen to grab a bottom feeder. There are alot of nice QSC's up the line.

Had a QSC SRA 2422 that was 425 wpc rms @ 8 ohms and you could put your ear down the throat of the horn and not hear a thing.

Alot of folks like the QSC PLX 1202 and 1602. The PLX did need a fan replacement to quiet it up.

  9. Going into the game Manning had eleven interceptions on the season.....Brees had two....it was obvious....if Manning played his "usual" game the Saints would intercept.

    Ummm ok.

    Drew Brees 2009 Season stats:

    TDS
    34
    INT
    11
    YDS
    4388
    RTG
    109.6

    Peyton Manning 2009 Season stats:

    TDS
    33
    INT
    16
    YDS
    4500
    RTG
    99.9

Drew had a few more than 2 interceptions this year.

  10. Colts had the lead for 48 minutes and 52 seconds and the Saints held the lead for 11 minutes and 8 seconds.

Yeah the Colts got crushed. I mean seriously what a beat down.

Go party don't worry about what Colts fans or fan thinks.

You won the Superbowl. I'm just not going to do any celebrating over it.

Drew Brees played up here 60 miles from me for years at PU. Couldn't stand him then and can't stand him now.

Reggie Bush and USC don't even get me started.

Oh, Im a Notre Dame fan by the way. I've grown accustomed to losing so all this "cheese with your whine" comments sounds a little comical.

  11. I am so glad it was a good, clean game, with a two touchdown spread.....that kind of win leaves no room for doubt the Saints are #1.

    Paaaaleasssseeeee.

But you did win the Superbowl. So Congrats for that.

Stormin, you obviously have a major size chip on your shoulder. So how about stating it this way.... "That kind of win leaves no doubt the Colts are #2".

No chip. My team played like crap and they lost. Defense looked like the defense of old in the second half. Peyton had one pass in 70 real time minutes. I saw the game 10-3 midway through second quarter and watched Garcon drop a perfect pass that didnt have a defender between him and the goal line. Talk about a game changer. Then I watched the Saints kick an onside kick which would of gave Indy the ball on the Saints 35 yard line. The reason folks loved it cause it worked but that was a Bellocheat move. I watched the Saints own the ball for 13 minutes in 2nd quarter and 4 downs within the 5 yard line and coudn't put it in and only got 3 points for the whole quarter. Only reason they even got 3 was poor play calling to give the Saints back the ball for a 47 yard field goal to end the half. Yeah I saw the Colts dominate the Saints first quarter and come away with 10. I saw the Saints control the ball an entrie second quarter and come away with 3. Then we all saw some weird crap to start the the 3 rd . Hero or idiot he just got the bounce. I watched Peyton drive down the field right after that and go ahead again. For someone to act like it was a cake walk when with 3 minutes to go you were looking at a tie game instead goes for 73 the other way which puts the game out of reach. Then to watch Peyton drive it down the field and Reggie drop a pass on the goal line that was in his hands. Just dropped balls, dumb play calling and a coach acting like he was scared to be there.

But to say the score reflects the game or it should of been 30 or gloating about how you just killed the Colts and the score proves it I say [bs] We obviously didnt watch the same game unless you missed all that in my first paragraph.

As far as Colts number 2 nah. I still think they overachieved this year. I never saw this happeining this year with all the rookie receivers they had and with so many injuries this year.

Saints won the Superbowl. They are the Champs. Play the Vikings 10 times you might win twice. I think the best team of this season gave the game away and would of killed the Colts in the Superbowl.

  12. Hasent it been said that the KLF's are "Rock & Roll Speakers" ?

Yes but it reminds me of a Star Trek episode in which Scotty says "I'm giving her all shes got captain and I don't know how much longer I can hold her together".

  13. The fines are really pocket change and don't mean a thing. Like telling your kid to stand in the corner.

    JJK

But its justice and the only kind your going to get in professional sports and I feel good with the punishment. I really wouldn't of wanted to see him tossed for the rest of the season. He was pulled out for everyone to see he was a dumba$$ and didnt get away with it. Lets just hope for his sake Farve and Warner aren't like Marvin Harrison if you get my drift. So lets just leave it at that and enjoy the Superbowl.

  14. You ever seen a better class act than what Peyton and Drew gave at the Pro Bowl interview. Those 2 really are a couple of great individuals. It was pretty cool seeing Drew really look up to Peyton and cool to see Peyton tap Drew on the back for bringing his beloved Saints to the Superbowl.

I also didnt realize Archie Manning has been or had been with the Saints organization for 39 years. It appears to be a win win for the Mannings.

  15. OK, I've always thought the Saints were a class act.

It seems their defensive coordinator wants Manning hurt where he can't get up.

I know it's mostly trash talk but "what IF".....

I guess it's getting closer to game time now and the pressure is rising.

This Super Bowl has been different for me. I've always pulled for the "Aints" through thick and thin and as bizzare as it sounds I wouldn't have been very upset IF the Saints won this one.

After the recent comments by the Saints, well.... I hope the Colts destroy them. The Saints lost their luster with me. Lack of class N.O.

    GO COLTS

I realize its their first time in state history to go to any professional championship game but come on. They are starting to talk and act like common street thugs.

  16. My thought were that the Saints defense was guilty of many late, dirty, High/low hits on Farve where the intention was to injure him and remove him from the game.

I cant imagine the commissioner not sending out a healthy fine to the defensive player for the hit below the knees. I still think it will happen.

I got that one right. Bobby McCray fined 20,000 dollars for 2 bad hits on Farve. The low hit on his legs and the hit after he handed the ball off. He is the same guy who laid into Kurt Warner the week before basically taking him out of the game. This guy is a train wreck and I'm sure they will be watching him closely. Don't get me wrong the NFL is a contact sport and hitting is part of the game. But your lying to yourselves if you didn't think this guy and his hits were way over the top. Win at all costs? I don't think so.

    Disappointed is becoming an understatement.

  17. [

a passing clinic so all the other quarterbacks can learn some tricks. Stick out tongue

Ummm. He does have a quarterback clinic and maybe the best in the country. Where do you think all those great college quarterbacks go like Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy?

Peyton just doesn't play the game he teaches it.

But there are alot of excellent quarterbacks who play and have played football.
