  1. And I posted this one too I think maybe my thinkings are mental. A Couple of things. Ever since the invention of EBAY, I have been hooked. The point of getting brand new merchandise for 50%(usually) excites the hell out of me. Keeping this in mind, I almost flat out REFUSE to pay retail for anything anymore! Only if I absolutely HAVE to. I buy all of my clothes, electronics, gadgets, ect, on Ebay. Fact is, I DO NOT have my mind made up yet. But here is my logic. If I went into "the Good Guys", or any store that carried the Klipsch Reference 7 series speakers. And paid full retail for the mains, 2 centers, and surround. I'd pay $4,700! That is alot of money. If I buy them on Ebay, brand new, they are $3,050,not including shipping, but also no tax! Now, I run the risk of getting a bum speaker, and not having a warranty through an un-authorized dealer. This is what sucks. But, I may be able to get a warranty, if it is bought through a "reputable" <--sp? dealer, just maybe not a Klipsch authorized. Now, I'm thinking that is a good deal! I am not saying that because Klipsch is $4700, retail, it is better or worse than any of the speakers you have all suggested. I really wish I could demo a pair or nOhr's. I really do. I would be scared to just order them. The thing that worries me, is, I dont know if I have the "ear" to really tell the difference between a good pair of speakers, and a better pair of speakers. I'd worry that I would buy a pair of say, B&W's, or nOhr's, but not be able to tell the differnce. Then I'd almost certainly be paying retail when I didn't have to, due to the fact of my not able to tell the difference. Does that make any sense? I'm not sure it does! hehe Here is the other thing that worries me. I don't listen to Jazz, or Classical music. I do like Stevie Ray Vaughn, but I don't have his cd's. Get my drift? Isn't the whole "Audiophile" thing supposed to spend ungodly amounts of money to reproduce as much as possible, a sound that if you closed your eyes, you'd think you were at the Symphony? Well, that is not my thing. Sure, I'd be impressed, but, unless I am jamming Metallica, or Megadeth, or some Crash Test Dummies, or some Static X, I ain't happy. So, do I spend the extra money to get "clearer" distortion guitars?!! lol When I listen to my music, 9 times out of ten the Treble is all the way up. So I think the Klipsch horns sound cool! I really would like to see if you could put me in a room wtih a $2500 pair of speakers, a $6000 pair of speakers and a $40,000 pair of speakers and switch between them. I almost bet I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I don't think I have a "developed" ear. You all have had really nice speakers to train your ears with. A Lot of you COULD probably tell the differnce. So, am still going to check out other speakers, but I have this mental thing of being able to get a good deal on the Klipsch's. However, since I havent been able to look for other speakers (due to not knowing about them, or not knowing that I like them) I might be able to find the same type of internet deal for B&W's or other speakers suggested. As long as I DON'T pay retail, I will be happy. As stupid as that may sound, its just my "mental" thing. If any of you know of deals on the internet for speakrs suggested, let me know too. Although, I'm sure you all are tired of this tread by now anyway. Love live EBAY. (sorry for the long post guys, I tend to get wordy)
  2. I posted this to the HomeTheatreForum Yeah, you know, I went to "the Good Guys" tonght in La Jolla. They had the new Klipsch RF-7's. I made them bust em out of the box. They didnt even have them pulled out to demo. I had the guy hook em up to the Denon 5800, since they don't carry Onkyo. I had them play some Gladiator, Lost World, U751. Sounded really really nice. I could definately tell they were a little tight and bright. But hell, they were right of the box. Give those suckers a good 100 hours.... I bet they sound really good. Honestly, I think these Klipsch's are going to serve my purpose. I will still go and demo a bunch of other speakers. I want to check out some B&W's and stuff. The really high end place in San Diego just started carrying the B&W line. This showroom has $40,000 speakers there. They have $10,000 bookshelf speakers. I am looking forward to checking out their showroom. They are actually right down the street from me. I also was checking out a pair of Veritas speakers made by I think Energy. They sounded good. But, they were over $1700 per speaker. I dont think they sounded any better than the out of the box Klipsch. They were a little warmer, but, they have also been well broken in. They surely didnt sound $1200 better than the Klipsch. I am going to have to hear SUCH a difference in a speaker, to make me spend extra money, more than the Klipsch. I had the guy crank up Beethoven's 5th with all the Klipsch's going. He was playing a DVD-A. Sounded bitchin!! As far as tv's go, I havent seen one single Projection TV that impresses me. I absolutely cannot stand that unless you are dead center, you dont have as good of picture. Yes, I agree they have come a long way, but it is unexceptable to me. Plus, dealing with eiter grey bars or stretched screen? No thanx. I'd rather have a 4:3 and give up some black barsI am definately sticking with Tube for now. However, one TV did impress me. The new Mistubishi. I think its the DLP, or DLT. Something like that. That TV rocks. However, you wont see my plunk down $15k for ANY tv, EVER!! Honestly, I think I'd rather get a Projector if I had my choice. I am going to wait. Maybe I will wait until the Mitsubishi technology comes down to like $5000-$6000. Then I think it is worth it! Hell, I remeber Plasma's for $19,000. What are they now? $6000? Couple years, I will get me a big screen. Until then, when I buy my house, I'll get a Projector.

  5. Hey, it's me again. After doing some more research. I think I will look into dropping one of the extra SVS Ultra subs, to just the one SVS Ultra with the amp. This would free up another $1000 so that I can get the Onkyo SV-S939. Two of the subs in the house we are renting now would be major overkill anyway! I have read many reviews that say the Pioneer DV444 that my wife got me, is basically junk. The progressive scan on it blows. Its not even real progressive scan, its just a line doubler, or, something to that effect. Also, since the best Onkyo DVD player (54Mhz/10 DAC, as apposed to Denons 27mhz/10 DAC),looks to be far better than the best Denon DVD player, that would swing my vote around to the Onkyo TX-989 Reciever. The Onkyo also has a speacial media connection to the DV-S939 too I believe. If I was to blow as much as $1200 or so on the DVD player, it would ease my mind alot better to have the Onkyo Reciever. I like keeping things the same brand whenever I can. Anyway, thoughts on this change? Good? or Bad? I also am planning getting the Panasonic TU-HDS20 Decoder Box as well. Hopefully next month. I am switching Satalite providers from Dish Network to Direct TV. Direct TV of course has the Sports paks (NFL and NHL are being hooked up as of Sat! Woo Hoo!) and they seem to have much better support of HDTV than DISH, so, I'm done with Echostar. Considering the TV I'm getting in NOV, the Sony Vega 36inch XBR450, It is gonna be sweet to finally check out HDTV. I figure, it would be worth it to spend the extra money on the best posible DVD player so I can enjoy it on my new TV. Is this a good trade? The extra overwhelming bass for a top of the line DVD player? Any other sugguestions. This is why I like having a few months to plan, that way I work over every possible config to get the best possible setup I can get for my money. Adam
  6. Yeah, each day that goes by I sway this way or that. If the Onkyo had 170W/channel instead of 130w/channel, I'd think I'd definately go Onkyo. I hear the customer service is great. Easy upgrades. Nice remote. Two sub outs. And its cheaper to boot. Considering that I plan on getting the SVS Ultra Pairs for subs, I might just get the Onkyo. I wont need that extra bass oomph that the extra 40W would give me. I hear alot of crap for the Denon as far as this "hum" a few people have talked about. Also the poor customer service, and sending your unit off to upgrade really sucks too. I like the looks of the Denon better. GOD, its really tough. It might just come down to the last second as far as which one I choose. I do have about 3 months or so before I am buying it anyway, so I dont know why I am getting all worked up anyway....that is a long ways away.
  7. Okay, I humbly appologize for being an a$$hole. I figured you were just some punk throwing crap around. I went to SVS's site. From what I see, they pretty much claim no equal. From the reviews they have and the opinons givin, I don't see any reason to doubt that. I believe it so much in fact, I think I will change my lineup to make room for these guys. Here is what I am now thinking. Denon AVR-5800 $2400 Klipsch RF-7's (Mains) $1500 Klipsch RC-7's (Front Center, Rear Center) $1100 Klipsch RS-7's (Side Surrounds) $550 SVS Ultra Matchin Pair w/1000 watt AMP $2500 I figure I can just add a 3rd RC-7 later for the additional rear channel to complete the 7.1 (If I even bother with that) Later will possibly be the second set of RF-7's. Having unmatched BASS is way more important to me than surround anyway. In HT mode, the 2nd set of RF-7s would be highly under-utilized. I would gain performance in listening to music, but hell, when is my wife gonna let me sit there and jam 4 HUGE tower speakers on a regular basis anyway??!! Thank you sooooo much for opening my eyes to SVS. I might otherwise have never known about them. At least BEFORE I had allready spent money on the RSW-15. Adam
  8. Um, I seriously doubt you have even demo'd the RSW-15 sub? Have you? Do you even have anyt info to back that statement? I have full confidence that the RSW-15 Klipsch sub is going to pretty much smash anything around it for $1800. They say is performs like a 21" sub due to the surface area. Besides, who'd want to break up such a beautiful set? Furthermore, before you throw in some one-liner, why don't you give me reason why I should consider another sub. Otherwise, your comment doesnt really do me any good now does it?
  9. Well, compared to all of the reviews I have read, and my initial commitment to at least try my very best to get the 2 sets of RF-7s (4 RF-7's total) I think I am going to get the Denon. Obviously either reciever would be great, but, at 170watts per channel, and 200watts per channel (6ohms), that is just downright sexy. I would totally buy the RF-7's sight unseen. I am trying to locate a shop in San Diego that has the RF-7's. So far I am finding RF-3's. I just moved from Colorado. Out there we had Soundtrack. I could demo my whole potential system at a Soundtrack. I am confident that I cant go wrong with Klipsch. I have heard their top end speakers demo'd before and was totally impressed. Anyway, would this Denon upgrade be merely a software upgrade? Or hardware? What does Dolby Pro Logic II do anyway? Should I care? What other goodies would you get with the upgrade?
  10. I'm sure you have all seen my last post, but the speaker setup for home theatre I want to go with is RF-7's Front RC-7's Front and Rear Center RF-5's Surround (possibility that I will get another set of RF-7's for the Surround) Now, using that setup, I ask the question: Should I stick with the Onkyo TX-D989, or go with Denon's AVR-5800? The Onkyo is selling brand new on EBAY for $2100. The Denon is selling at around $2400. Does anyone have a preference? Regardless of price, if you were given the choice of a Denon AVR-5800 or an Onkyo TX-D989 Reciever, which would you choose? Both brands are totally kick-*** so, I'm not totally sure. But if someone can give me arguments either way, I might lean! Also, would it be worth the money to invest gradually in the Audiophile speaker cables like the Monstor Z- series. After all, the RF-7's are the Bi-Wire, so I assume I will have to dish out a substantial amount of money for them anyway, why not go with the better? EBAY is my hero.
  11. I completely agree with you Quenten!! I am definately going to go with the RF-5's as the rear surround! And the 2 RC-7's as the front and rear Center. The other advantage of course to getting RF-5's would be that I would have 4 Bad-*** Towers going full strength when I want to jam my Metallica and stuff. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Unless of course by the time I actually start purchasing all this stuff, (probably FEBRUARY) I get a wild hair up my butt and dump in the extra $500 to take the RF-5's up to the RF-7's. Preliminary findings on EBAY so far have the RF-7's selling at about $1500, the RF-5's selling at about $960. The RC-7 sells at about $560. I havent seen a RSW-15 Sub yet, but I would assume it will go for at least $1500 or so. Probably my last issue to conquer by the time I start buying, is wether to stick with the Onkyo TX-D989, or go with Denon's AVR5800. (I will start a new thread with this question so that it gets answered.)
  12. Or, I was thinking even more about it. How about, two RC-7's (Rear Center and Front Center) two RF-7's (Front right, Front Left) and then Two RF-5's (Rear Surrounds) and then the RSW-15 Sub. Expensive yes, but, it only adds like maybe a grand more to the already $6000-$6500 I was planning on using. What about that setup?
  13. Okay, I understand 6.1 Front: Right, Center, Left Rear: Right, Center, Left Subwoofer But, were does the extra speaker factor in for 7.1? Do any DVD's use it yet? Which ones? I know I could probably just find this out myself, but, maybe someone has some addition info to add as well.
  14. Here is also another idea? Instead of the RS-7's for the rear surround, should I get a pair of RF-5's? Or would that not work and it would really have to be another set of RF-7's to work well. I read someone one time that if you have the money, it's best to get the same speakers as your "main front" speakers for your surround as well. Is this true? Or should the RS-7's do an outstanding job anyway and dont worry about blowing the extra money? Any thoughts?
  15. (Long post, but, please read) Hey guys. I have been checking out this forum for a while, just never posted. I am estimating getting like $12k back in taxes this year. I am buying a Sony Vega 36' HDTV next month. the "KV36XBR 450" I right now have a home theatre system built back in 1995 for only like $3k Cerwin Vega 12" speakers, nice little center, bookshelf speakers for surround, JVC 27" tv, JVC VCR, Pioneer Reciever, (basically kids stuff) Anyway, my wife is letting me spend an additional $6500 when tax refunds come in this next year. Here is what I am planning. Basically, the whole RF series, RF-7 foors speakers, RC-7 Center, RS-7 Surrounds, and the big daddy RSW-15 subwoofer. Top that off with a Onkyo TX-DS989 7.1 Reciever to power it all. My wife got me a kick *** Pioneer Progressive Scan DVD Player (DV-444) for my birthday today, Oct 5th. I am 25 today... woo hoo! Basically, I have always been a fan of Klipsch and in my opinion, they make close to the best stuff a middle-class guy can buy without getting too crazy. ' Anyway, you are all much more versed in Home Theatre than myself. What are your opinions of this setup. Should I do something different? Please, I want input!
