  1. I think you have to evaluate what it is your doing the most with the Pro's, DVD's, games or music.

For DVD's and games I would think you would want the front sats a little closer (somewhere near the monitor) for decent spacial reference, voices, gunshots that sort of thing.

For music, I would think whatever sounds good to you would work best.

Have the family (if they can handle the task of holding up a big ol' Pro sat for a couple mins.! smile.gif )to hold up the sats at different points in the room to give you a sense of what is right for your ears and sense of overall sound quality in the room.

As far as the rest of the house hearing your thundering pro's, you would have to know how the home was constructed. What kind of walls, plaster, drywall and so on. If the room has a lot of furniture it will dull some of the sound leaving the room, but with the pro's wall mounted you will get a lot more sound travelling throughout the house.

Currently I have my pro's on my desk, it is a corner unit and quite large. So the rears are actually behind me in a sense. I have a few cabinets and book cases for my movies and collectibles, but overall not a lot of furniture. I have to get the pro's up to about the 1 o'clock range to get clear sound in a different part of the house if that helps for a reference. My walls are plaster and it is an older home, so the walls are quite sound proof (wide buggers) If you walls are standard 2x4 with drywall (most homes around 15-25 years old are) you might start to hear clear sound at the 10 o'clock position. If they are wall mounted, it might even turn out to be less.

Your sub placement will also determine what kind of sound the rest of the family has to put up with. In a corner facing the wall, the low frequencies will be felt and heard throughout the home. If you sacrifice a little of the boom and move it away from a corner the sats will cancel out a little bit of the low frequencies.

Overall, if the room is no bigger than 14x14 feet you shouldn't have to crank the pro's to much to get the same enjoyment you are having now, if you wall mount them.

When your done, lets here how it worked out and click some snap shots! smile.gif

    Good luck!

  2. Take the plastic off... lol. Just kidding, you do take the plastic off, right?!

Don't waste another second on the board, just call or e-mail for support.

The number and e-mail address is plastered all over the board.

    Good luck!

  3. Hi Everyone,

I would like to end this thread on a positive and informative note.

I have had contact with Amy via E-mail regarding my pre-amp and I am very happy with her offer.

I have read almost all of this board (the promedia section) in the last couple of days, A LOT OF READING! and I have found a lot of issues, mostly small. But the one that comes up the most is the pre-amp, bar none.

My suggestion is this... don't waste your time crying on the board. Your just gonna get slagged by all the high and mighty "regulars" who think that because their lack of problems means your not right or your a suck for wanting what they have (no static), don't give them the satisfaction. Plus, if you read alot of the older threads... alot of the "regulars" have had their fair share of problems including the pre-amp issue. They just happened to have had it fixed the first time and don't have to worry anymore. So they spend their time joking about our misfortune and "duct tape" of all things.

Contact Amy right away (or any rep), they will make things right. Don't turn your volume knob up and down like a fool, it's degrading, you paid a lot of money for these speakers, don't be fooled by short term gimmicks. It is the same stab in the dark like the rest, canned air and loose connections, started by second guessing and rumors. Deal with the experts, not some inexperienced frenchman from canada. (sorry guy's, you seem to slag the most around here!)

I am very happy and amazed by this product, but it is only that, a product. Produced by a fine company that, if dealt with in the proper way, will make sure you are a happy customer.

That is actually a part of THX certification, a certain level of customer service and technical support must be present in order to qualify for certification. If you think I'm joking look at the site... www.thx.com Have fun!

ummm how does it go again, Oh yeah, ROCK ON!

  4. Don't forget a box of tissues, the first time you rev these babies up can be pretty emotional.

Then sit back and be amazed at what beautiful and amazing sounds come from these small wonders.

  5. Wow, this thread just keeps on going!

    1) I've contacted Klipsch via E-mail. No response yet but I'm confident they will have a solution to my problem.

    2) If there is a "batch" of bad pre-amps that made it to Canada this explains why I have received 2 defective pre-amps.

    3) I'm not asking Klipsch for a million dollars people. Just a "working" pre-amp, if that means they give me the new one, so be it, that is none of anyones business. If you have a problem with yours let them know and at them same time let everyone else know so that those who don't know there are issues can be aware if in the future their old pre-amp developes the same problems.

    4) Klipsch is fully responsible for replacing my pre-amp with one that will function for the life of the speakers and I don't think anyone would expect or accept any less.

    5) I am in no way impressed by the way kqew conducts himself, I just share in his frustration.

    6) These are the best multimedia speakers I have ever heard. Thank you Klipsch.

    7) For those who have no issues with their pre-amps... your lucky because it is a very sad and frustrating thing to have something you are so proud of and enjoy so much to have such an ugly problem. So PLEASE understand when some of us loose our cool a little. We just want what you already have, a solid system.

  6. Wow!

I think this has gone beyond my original intensions!

I just wanted to make the point that I have tried everything possible to address this issue on my own. Obviously as a consumer I will feel a little let down when I change something that has been diagnosed by a certified Klipsch dealer as the problem and it re-occurs with the part that Klipsch supplies.

I know that Klipsch will take care of me, because my uncle had a old set of Klipsch, REAL old and they still helped him out years after the original purchase. So there I'm not concerned.

I am however concerned about having to replace a part numerous times at my expense, driving, time and so on, even when there is a part that can correct the problem overall, not just a temporary fix.

I will continue to be a loyal and content Klipsch customer no matter what pre-amp I receive as a replacement. I just hope it is the one that cures my problem for good.

  7. Hey, I'm not saying Klipsch should replace every pre-amp in the world, but sooner than later they will run out of the old pre-amps... because there is a problem with some of them.

    1) I don't think anyone is denying that the old pre-amp has static issues.

    2) I was a little harsh about the service thing, my retailer has been wonderful and understanding with myself and Klipsch, I think it should no longer be my retailers responsibility if there are known issues with a certain product. If someone is not having issues with the old pre-amp, good for them, but for the rest of us that are having issues with it, it is time to correct them.

    3) I am not some morron that does not know how to set up speakers on a PC and I have a small army of friends with engineering backgrounds, so believe me when I say I have tried everything in my power to come up with a fix on my own. But as a consumer, I should not have to attempt to "FIX" a problem with a product that I didn't design, build or sell to myself, Klipsch sold it to me! So Klipsch should service my product so that it will never happen again. If that means giving me the new CP-1, then thats what they should do!

  8. I have had 2 pre-amps since buying my Klipsch pro's. I am very happy with the speakers, VERY happy but I am sort of saddened by the lack of service when it comes to pre-amp issues. I would like to see Klipsch replace my pre-amp with the new CP-1, no questions asked. I payed 500 CND dollars for these speakers and I deserve a certain level of service for that amount of money. I would like one of the service reps that monitor this board to give me a toll free number that works in Canada or an E-mail address that goes directly to a customer service rep that can resolve this ASAP. Thanks.

  9. Well, I can't change the volume without hearing some pretty nasty scratching and popping. It usually is louder than the music or movie I'm watching. I'm just scared I'll damage my klipsch, I know there on warranty, but a day without my klipsch is like a day without my wife! There is no hiss or pop if I leave the volume alone, but once I touch the pre-amp all hell brakes loose! HELP!

Movies take us to a place we would like to be and away from a place we would like to forget.

  10. I had the same problem with one of my sat's. At first my pre-amp was replaced but that only cleared up the volume scratch for a short time, the popping was still there at the 12, 1 and 2 positions (on the pre-amp), sometimes even lower. I tried moving the satellite to every position and changing the connection each time. It was always the same sat. Finally my supplier, Global Video (the owner is a super nice guy) just replaced my sat and I have had no problems to this day, well except for an angry wife maybe!

Amy, correct me if I'm wrong but the new pre-amp is 50 USD? So me and my fellow Klipsch owners in Canada will be paying almost 100 CND for the upgrade. Well, my pre-amp is still hissing, I'm going to take it in for a replacement, but I feel if I've already had 2 of the old pre-amp and the new pre-amp has corrected this issue... then it just makes sense for Klipsch to replace it with the new pre-amp. So far I have been a very loyal and happy Klipsch owner, having my pre-amp replaced with a working unit would make me even happier.

  11. I would get the SB Live value. It is the same card without the software bundles the others come with. I know its not the best sound card in the world, buts its stable, well supported and sounds really good, actually it sounds excellent for the price you pay. I don't think you can get a better deal than the SB live card, anyone can correct me though. I'm just talkin from experience.

Best of luck with whatever card you choose!

  12. Actually I have a couple questions. First off, I was wondering if my Klipsch dealer can get me the cp-1 upgrade, or would it be smarter to get it direct? I live in Canada (bumber eh?!) and I was told you don't ship to Canadian customers that try to order through your site. I have been missinformed before and will hopefully be corrected by someone who knows their ABC's so to speak. Someone (Amy?), can you shed some light on this for me? I am on my second control pod already due to the first one getting static when changing volume levels, the new one is starting to repeat the same problem. Will the new cp-1 correct this, I want the advantage of the headphone jack, but if it has the same tendancies to create static when adjusting volume levels, I'll just get my dealer to replace my current pod and save a few buck's.

  13. Psyco, I have a P2-400 w/384MB's pc100 RAM, SB live, Dxr2 Creative 5x DVD-rom w/ 16mb VoodooBanshee card (and decoder card). I have over 240 DVD's and only 2 have had issues, and were recalled t'boot. I have no problems with playback or tv out. My pc is my only DVD player and I am very pleased with its performance. I am wondering if you need a RAM upgrade. Try 1800memory.com for RAM, I think you can get a 256mb stick for around 80.00-USD.

  14. It would be interesting (and nice) if the certified dealers could update existing pro sets to the new 4.1 standard! That way Klipsch could charge a reasonable fee for the x-over and Pre-amp upgrade and it would be warrantied because its installed by a certified dealer! I'd sign up for that! As far as the volume scratching, I have noticed mine doing that a little here and there. I don't really worry about it much, but it is a problem that I hope the cp-1 can fix.

  15. Do you like how it sounds? I f you do then its a good setup! I would probably put the sub in a corner away from you nd try to get the rears a little farther back. But those are my personal preferences that I have developed after listening and moving, listening and moving. I also noticed your rears are very high up, do they over power the fronts or have any odd effects?

    Interesting.

  16. I'm curious, does PowerDVD v3.0 support tv out? I tried the demo and I only got sound to my tv? Is there a block in the demo, or do I have to use the DVD Encore software that came with my decoder card? Oh, I have a creative Dxr2 DVD player and I am sending through the Svideo output on the decoder card. If it does, great, because I have had problems with some DVD's and the Creative Encore software not working. With a collection of over 240 DVD's it is pretty important to me that they all work with my system! Thanks in advance for any help!

  17. Snarfy, check out PowerDVD. I believe it's full dolby digital compliant. You'll have to search for the home page, I can't remember the URL, sorry!

  18. That sounds like a position problem for sure. Search for Home Theater Positioning sites, they all share similar views on sub positioning. Always away from you, since you should be in the center of the satellites sweet spot, the sub should be outside that sweet spot off in a corner. If the sub is in conflict with the center of your mid and high sweet spot, you are going to kill the majority of your low frequency sounds. If you don't have an area that is suited to 4 satellites and a sub, find a better room or move your desk to get better positioning for your pro's. I have put my pro's up against an old roomates 400wt HT system and like everyone has said, it came pretty damn close. Always keep in mind these speakers have a specific purpose, to supply clean, powerful and crisp sound... for a computer at computer listening distances, not supply music for an arena party.

  19. I just got home from a hospital visit for severe laughing trauma. Namely for tha admins response! Dear lord this is one of the funniest forums I've ever registered to and it's for a Speaker manuf. of all things!

P.s. I ould like to invest in that "mounting" technology, where do i send the check! BWAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  20. I'm always confused as to why people have to take things apart and "inspect" them after a purchase. If you don't like how they sound or how they were engineered, why the hell did you spend all that money! Obviously you have heard them or heard of their quality before you bought them, so why complain after getting them? Enjoy!! I can't afford a "decent" home theater system so I splurged and got the 4.1 pro media set and crank the hell out of it from my office and watch DVD's in the living room. I can tell you my friend has a 100wt powered sub and a decent 5.1 speaker system along with it and I am hard pressed to "feel" the diference between the 2 subs, in any room. I am very proud of my pro media's and it will probably take me a long time to break down and buy a full home theater package because of them.
