moray, the x series and the alpha sansuis are somewhat available here.you tell which one the following to get ; alpha 607,707,907dr and 907 limited. theres also a sansui DG 999. which sounds different from all the above as it produces more of the mid band nicely -

1972, Sansui introduced the integrated amplifier AU-9500 along with less expensive models AU-6500, AU-7500, and AU-8500. These amplifiers were well built, and very heavy with massive power transformers and heat syncs. With the distinguished look of the front panel, it was simply called, Âthe Black Face. Sound-wise, it was the extension of the single number three digits series, and had rich tube like low frequency with the natural mid to high sound. It seems being reached to the maturity of the first generation of solid state amplifiers. -
It's obvious it's a DIY amp, but being DIY doesn't mean it has to sound bad. Poor design and/or execution is probably the problem. Those are pretty nice HP for the the money. Do you have any others you could try? The load on the amp must be at least as high as the headphone impedance. If not, the bass will roll off and will distort very easily. The HP are 50 and you are using the supposedly 32 ohm setting. That is the best setting you have. There could also be an impedance mismatch between your preamp and the tube amp. Bruce there is no pre amp.the headfone amp is fed by the soundcard . the impedance is 32 ohms usually. 100 ohm setting makes it a bit punchier ,louder ,though by 2to3 db only, .... my other posts imply if this same amp could drive rf3s or not ??????it gives 3 watts but ofcouurse impedance is the issue ? plz advise

marantz 2230 ,tube sounding , they may say,but i wouldnt know till I own a proper tube amp for speakers. but last night I compared jvc and marantz and the sound of jvc is very precise and tight but to me and my uncle, the marantz sound was so much velvety n soft and pleasing. jvc felt dry. and clinical. -

wow, does that somehow mean the 2245 series of oldy marantz is still holding its flag upright to the latest like the PM 15s2.....?????? id be damned !!!! [] im surely glad to be owning a 2230 .... it surely is better than a lot of newbies out there .... -
though this is a 3 watt headfone tube amp that iv shown in other thread , the overal sound is better than most ss i have so far . the only lacking is bass . how would i get better oomph outa this amp. its got EL-95 tubes . ARE they supposed to be weak and tinny ?and less powerful and early distorting type?

does the reference series 1 speakers ,specifically RF3s benefit at all from some diy bracing and padding ? sand filling or the likes? id be interested in doing little and getting more out of these speakers,in terms of overall sound [H]
