  1. To many, the music is more important than the delivery system. A superb system won't make inferior music and/or an inferior recording more enjoyable. Conversely, an excellent recording of excellent music is still enjoyable when played on a clock radio, or even a Bose music machine. Sure it's better on an excellent system, but the diminishing return factor is tremendous.

yes , i second dennie , well said and phrased just right !!![:)]

How is your Baby doing? Party!!!

and many thanks for asking about my kiddo , dennie , shes doin great mashallah , shes the best passion i ever had . centre of attention at home for everyone . [:D]. thanks again. always good to have your replies .

  2. a lot of models emerge every year and the choosing gets difficult .

if it comes down to marantz for stereo ,i wonder what difference does latest models bring compared to say the 2230 model ?????

the 7003 and the likes in prticular.

here in lahore , the price of a marantz starts around Rs.50000/ goin upto 150,000/....

but the 2230 or 2285 can be had for around a fraction of that price !!!! maybe sy 5000/ to say the least ....

  3. russ,

you maybe partly right .the 2230 is rather unaltered over the years .its in originality . hence maybe.

but id suspect the two to sound different as they are both ordinary in their class . the tuube amp is a diy. how great would that be . its just built to work and demonstrate how a tube headfone amp should sound like.

but what im describing (lack of bass) is surely for the tube amp.

the 2230 and the 911 both SS have full deep bass and better handling capabilities.

i just wish the tube amp "dolly" to have hd produced some better oomph and rumble somehow .

  4. yes marvel,

at switch no1 i.e. 32hz the sound is neater .

    but less loud .

as i switch to position2 or 3 , the punch somewhat increases , but distortion gets more prominent too (if playing loud) .

i was just comparing the sound of this amp to the JVC AZX-911 and marantz 2230 , through the same fostex fones.

though none had any problems going loud , the most musical had been the marantz .

the tubes get you way more clarity in any competition but , the lack of bass and rumble in their sound cannot be overlooked!!.

i know its a v lousy tube gear that i have acquired , but it is holding its good at moderate volumes where the programme music doesnot have very deep bass notes .

from this tube amp, the bass is neat down to 50hz , i guess but then simply non existant or perhaps 20 db less ,thereon.

i may add to ask you guys , if changing the tubes would be the solution to attain better bass and more power handling ???

  5. hi all,

the day i brought the tube headfone amp , im wondering where is the bass and rumble from my music gone ???

is it typical of tubes not to give deep bass and thrilling lows ???

is it normal for tube amp or is it something missing in this particular tube gear . though its nothing compared to respectable tube amps like scotts and fisher or sansui , that many of you must be using , but it surely qualifies to be a tube amp, nevertheless and sounds better in clarity and midrange than other SS that i have .

the tone of the piano does get edgy and sharp when playing loud through my fostex RP T-20 headsets.

    your views are highly appreciated...

  6. and I haven't blow a fuse

    wowowo

does that mean a fuse can be installed somewhere in the speaker loop. ???i d sure love to know where ?

coz i wana protect my speakers like any other . though havent blown any speakers too . i have blown a number of fuses to the powersupplies of dvd players while plugging em into the wall for 220 volts.

all vintage gear that i own have direct coupling and no protection for the speakers . theres always a thudd when i switch off my marantz or quad or luxman. and being 98db sensitive, the thudd from the RF3s can be discomforting and feary.

id like to know where can fuse be fitted in the loop outside the amplifier , for the speakers protection .[8-|]

  7. EDWINr,

first thing first ,1) what medical issues ripped you off those speakers ?

    2) what can you tell me about your experience with tube amps vs SS,

as i think the bass has some issue , inherently with tube amps.

dont get me wrong , i have a very small headfone tube amp, that im trying to play with, these days . and though it gives clarity and power to my headfones (fostex RP T-20) , the bass maybe something less existant when compared to more muffled and mellower sound coming from the source (creative audigy2, sound card ) .

though i like the way tube amp sounds , is it still the best i can have when it comes to audio ?

  8. very nice account edwin,

the post has died , but i enjoyed evry bit of it.

ofcourse i would like to know what amps you had used and what was the usual SPL at which you compared the two.

to me , the summits arent as mammothly as the khorns , and similarly they wouldnt have even sounded as big too, perhaps.

the brief experience i had with the summits was with krell 150 watt /ch stereo integrated amplifier and a meridian cd player . and the sound was not very technically correct . but thats just my own observation. i wasnt impressed with the bass either .

i have yet to experience any khorns
