  1. In all fairness, has any other speaker manufacturer come up with a "revolutionary" speaker recently?  Not to say that it can't be done, but speakers rarely hit that revolutionary level.  Slight improvements seem to be more realistic expectations.  Regardless, I believe what Amy said in that there will be some exciting news.  I don't think she would say that if it were not the case.  I'm remaining optimistic on this one.

There is a manufacturer messing with plasma tweeters....that's the closest to zero mass mankind has come to for speakers.

I haven't read all of this because I'm in cancun...I know, swanky, right?

Not knowing what was going on, haven't been around much lately but I face palmed when I saw the "new" reference speakers on the website. I thought the II line was being replaced with synergy reference clones. I thought it was odd though that the site had both as klipsch has been good as of late with keeping the site up to date.

I really am not pleased with the idea of combining lines. Go ahead...call the best buy line reference but the upper echelon of reference needs to be rebranded as something else. It deserves distinction because it is a top tier and the components and refinement are there. You can have very similar style but the consumer needs easily recognizable distinction between models and a visual cue that is easily identifiable....it's a reason why people buy the nicer and more distinguished version too. The different model numbers don't stick out easily. For instance call the bottom tier reference rf28 and the upper tier reference echelon rf82ii. The difference is readily visible but again, similar chassis and performance but refined.

Just food for thought. Before or in case I get flamed, I'm going to read the rest of the threads when I get back to AZ and I'm not reading it on WiFi on my note 3

  2. the promedia stuff is great when it works. The amp that is located in the sub tends to go at one point which is disappointing. I had the GMX series and the tweeters always made a hiss noise and then the amp went. The promedia you have is a better product than the GMX was and as far as computer products go, the klipsch stuff has a good well rounded sound. It's sad to say that if it had been my first klipsch product, i am not sure i would have bought more klipsch.

I wouldn't ever try to connect the speakers to a separate amp, itll work but you'll need a sub and some kind of crossover so you don't blow the speakers. I wound up going with a pair of Klipsch ICON W WB-14's an HSU sub and an Emotiva Mini X amplifier for my computer setup and its fantastic.

Welcome to the disease, it spreads quickly and will drain your wallet!

  3. i wouldn't buy the UMC-200, if anything buy the Fusion 8100. sounds the same as the UMC-200 (according to Emotiva). it's the debate i also have, either 8100 or XMC.

i have 7's and i can say you need 200W per speaker. i would get the 8100 let it power your rear speakers and have your Outlaw just power the front 3. i'm assuming the outlaw amp acts like the emotiva where it divides the power per input, so if you just used that amp with 1 speaker, then you would have 1400w available. so if you used just it for LCR it would be 466w X 3.

of course i only suggest that if you want to go the emotiva route. personally, i'd say let the Elite power the rears and outlaw power mains. that's usually my suggestion if at all possible.

i currently have my 7's, UMC, and XPA-3. i'm thinking of trading out the UMC for the XMC and keep the amp the same.

i really think the amp makes the most difference in a HT set up. yes, i know different receivers sound different, but usually you can't hear the difference unless you are in a 2CH set up or listening to music. at least that is how it is for me. i did all my testing in 2CH, kept the settings i like the best there, and then used it only for HT.

really what you could do is have the elite power everything, see how it sounds, then let the outlaw power everything, see how that sounds, and then let the elite power the rears and outlaw power mains, and see which one you think sounds best, before you buy anything new.

    just my 2 cents....

I have the 7's and i've got 125 watts going to each and it shakes the house without issue at ear splitting levels albeit the power is coming from a dedicated power amp. I've had to adjust the eq on the low end of the 7's to get some good thump out of them religiously and since then, they have been such a different animal. 200 watts is great though, you can never have too much power.

I agree, the XMC is pretty nice looking but the sucker is expensive.

  4. I did side and rear surrounds in-ceiling and it was a great decision.

    Id probably go with the:

    CDT-3650-C II http://www.klipsch.com/CDT-3650-C-II

    or

CDT-5650-C II http://www.klipsch.com/CDT-5650-C-II (this is the notch up from the 3650)

I put in CDT-5800-C II's because i have the RF-7's and said go big or go home. I think the two above suggested speakers will match just right and are well sized for your setup. The effect of down firing ceiling speakers gives a great surround effect despite what most would think. I would say that it more omni-directional feeling than wall mounted speakers. I get a very enveloping feeling from it all.

  5. have you considered a rotel or classe amp? Both fall under the B&W umbrella and the Classe is what they use on their diamond series.

I am a firm believe that you have to spend some cash to get something decent and once in a blue moon you come across something super cheap that is awesome. Take a look at the outlaw amps. I like mine, i think its a pretty smoothe amp, very satisfied. I would be more looking at the larger amps than what i have since the palladium deserve more juice.

  6. In my travels i came across Foam Factory which has a ton of acoustical foam. A lot of looks to be fairly priced.

    For instance these foam wedges:

I bought the auralex versions of these and spent like 4X the cost. I know a lot in here like doing foam shtuff so i hope this helps!! I haven't bought anything from here so i can't speak from first hand experience but it looks legit to me.

  7. i had heresys, couldnt stand the lack of bass. They sounded absolutely for awesome for vocal based music but didn't sound stellar with rap or trance type stuff. Very warm and rich sound though.

I have quartets in my office and i love them. they sound great on all types of music and have that openess about them that the 3-way klipsch speakers have. I still think my rf-5's are more neutral and have much better bass performance but they lack that 3-way sound. Overall, the quartets are excellent speakers to own,

  8. if you must stick with bookshelfs, really, any of the reference line with 8" drivers will treat you well. I brought them to a party one night, just a few friends and myself in the poconos and my HK pushed my RB-5's hard with zero distortion. It was almost like having DJ speakers. Absolutely zero inhibitions with suggesting this.

The RF-82's will pound for sure.

  9. netflix streams a bunch of different formats. My PS3 is doing bitstream so that my umc-1 is doing all of the decoding but to my knowledge, netflix will stream the audio with the best it can.

  10. Yes! I commission all of you! I have a man-den in my house which is open completely on one side and is a small 10x10 basically. Right now its got a huge 3-piece computer desk/cabinet and a couch and the goal is to move the computer desk-a-ma-jig into another room or sell it. I wanted this to be my hifi area separate from the living room with the home theater. I was going to use my rf-5's or really whatever my flavor of speaker is for the week and have a tv along with maybe my computer. Style is modern/wood/glass/dark glass. the VTI gear is nice but expensive for right now so this will be an evolution.

All of that to get to this...I am looking for tasteful artwork posters that is audio related. I am going to get a couple klipsch posters and was thinking about getting some Kato posters www.thisiskato.com. Before you click, it is sexy steampunk modeling. I think that she is a great and tasteful model and want to somehow integrate her in among all the Hersey and Tangents hoping that designing this could be a Forte of mine and upon completion the Quartets shall play along with a Chorus whilst maintaining my Reference lair! Roar!

The Steve Steigman "Blown Away" poster is on the list.

Oh yeah, all of the posters (not sure of sizes yet) will be framed. This aint no teenagers lounge.

  11. i heart my outlaw 7125 and it has 0 issues blasting my 7's to ear splitting levels. If you really want to get fancy you can get their monoblocks and add them to the 7's for the low end OR just buy a model 7200 and get 200 watts per channel. Honestly though, the 125 watts a channel does fantastic for both movies and music.

  12. 62's, 82's and 7's will match just fine. I have those too so i am vouching from experience. sub doesnt matter since that'll go with anything and your center should match your towers correctly. how deep are your pockets? decide that and it should direct you as what you should purchase.

  13. THX is nice stuff and if you want to splurge, go for it! I think you can get away with the reference gear and be happy and it might help you wallet a bit. Give mike a call at acoustic sound design, thats who i used to get my in-ceilings and was actually one of the few purchases where i bought klipsch brand new. I would also get the biggest you can get from the get go. When you cut drywall, you can go bigger but these are decent size holes to patch if you change your mind.

Also, along with the wiring, you can also you nice indoor wire raceways to give a professional look. For your front stage, i would try and drop wires down the wall to some wall mounted binding posts with an electrical box behind it and then run wires through a raceway along the floor or molding or behind the molding and floor depending on the floor or under the carpet. Running wires laterally through the wall is hard because you would have to drill the studs which would involve removing drywall and patching. I suggest the binding post at the wall because once you run wires architecturally, you want to rerun them as least as possible and this give a really professional termination.

  14. I've been busy lately and haven't done much in the way of home theater.

Here is my thread from Christmas time where i installed 4 of the below speakers in my ceiling

    Thread:

    https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?/topic/147147-santa-may-have-come-a-bit-early-in-ceiling-speaker-install/

    Speakers Installed:

    http://www.klipsch.com/CDT-5800-C-II

I will admit, the install was a *****. Putting the speakers in the ceiling was easy. Routing wires through walls and stuff....not so easy. I had to route wires out the side of my house in PVC pipe. If you are dealing with interior walls that are 8-9' you really won't run into firebreaks but on exterior walls there is a good chance. Also need to watch out for headers etc. The location of my tv center is an outcrop from the house so its like double headers, in the eve with no room to work. I snaked my wires through one of the eve vent holes.

The THX series is cool because they are self contained sealed units whereas the rest are infinite baffle. Each type has pros and cons. THX speakers are meant to play reference levels in more dedicated movie room type atmospheres so in a larger room, they would be more key. What i have is perfect for surround duty and probably overkill but i am stickler for doing things once and doing it the right way so i got 8" drivers to better match the rest of the setup.

  15. i got the Sonos Media Bridge and Connect system, its expensive but is proprietary wireless with native reproduction. Just something to look into especially if you want to be able to control media from multiple sources and have media on multiple sources as well.
