I really do like the wf's, they are bright and the deal they have going is rediculous, im happy you took advantage of the deal, i wish i could sooo badly.

Buying used isnt a bad thing, i agree with that, i suppose if they are buying klipsch and at those prices, they probably have taken care of it, one would think, but of course this isnt always true. I don't just want klipsch to say i have it, i want to have it because they sound good to me so i want to be a bit choicey on what i choose. Spending 350 for towers isnt bad right now, i can afford that and it can postpone my need for a new set which i can acquire down the road. I am cruising craigslist way more diligently now, making sure things are magnetically shielded since thats uper important right now. I dont know how i feel about buying from audiogon unlesss something is local, i would much prefer to hear it tested and what not.

Speaker width is a concern, i am able to fit the reference series towers for instance. Im not very familar with the older klipsch products, like i said, only the past 2 years or so.

I am in no position to buy anything right now rather i am just planning and doing my due diligence. Those are actually the best speakers klipsch-wise ihave been since i started looking.

I have a 5 channel sony receiver right now with 100wattX5 so i was going to use that for now. This is seperate from the HTIAB kep in mind, i actually have them hooked up to some bose 201's i got about 10 years ago, they arent magnetically shielded so putting themnext to my tv is a no go!

[Why does picking a receiver have to be so frustrating?]

One of the biggest issues i have seen is the power loss in receivers when you run a full 5.1 or higher. I read many of the reviews that are in my sound and vision magazine and most really start to tank when you add on the channels. Check out http://www.soundandvisionmag.com for reviews on equipment. Marantz is quality, sony's tend to slack with the power as you add channels, pioneer as well. Denon is also great for receivers, onkyo as well. I do love HK, they make really high qualit receivers, i have one and absolutely love it

Alot of the receivers out just do too damn much for what a person really needs and unfortunately, those addons cost you more money. Power is another thing, more power, more money. 1000 bux is alot for a receiver, this is where IMO you start to get into the range of where considering a preamp/processor becomes more of a reality. Im very much for component style in the end, all in ones do serve purposes and i too have a 5 channel sony receiver but at that cost, the curve for me starts to take components into consideration. Im a fiend for outlaw audio, never heard a bad thing about them aside from some software lacking, but they are great, you can download firmware upgrades from the internet. They are hella expensive, but their amps are awesome. May be something to consider, get a functional receiver, low power, less money and buy an external amp.

Is there a reason why you want a NAS drive? Are you doing like a home media project? I would recommend that if you dont need an NAS drive that you could just build a nice tower with larger drives and more of them than just an NAS.

i have been checking out used klipsch for some time and i really dont know how i feel about it. Some things i love to have new, i would love to break in a new set of speakers. I like the icon w's i just thinkt hey are still soo new and their price is high, i don't feel that they are worth their MSRP on here, i like the RF's for their cerramatic cones and they are aged, tried and true. I like the aesthetics of the new klipsch's although aestethics are a small part of the sound experience, it does matter to me as i feel that klipsch produces a product with sounds that are so good that one can actually put aethetics in as a requirement.

I have been cruising the klipsch site for a good 2 years now after i had first purchased my GMX computer speakers which i was awfully unhappy with. I posted in the other section about them and found out that the gmx series was just a really shoddy product overall. Needless to say, this has not stopped me from looking at klipsch and claiming them as my most desirable brand. I have heard and i love the sound of klipsch's speakers overall and the quality you can see, feel, and hear proceeds the klipsch brand name.

Needless to say, im a college student graduating in december from ASU and although money will be tight, acquiring klipsch is definitly in my future. I am in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment right now and i wont be moving into a house for a bit, i need to make sure i wont hang myself financially first, i am looking to buy towers that can grow with me as well as my living space.

Right now i have a Sony HTIAB and im not dissatisfied with it, i think its great compared to the tv's built in speakers but it just isn't that full, wholesome sound that i want to hear. A few stipulations that i am keeping in mind is that i live in an apt and the bass will travel and bother my surrounding neighbors. I am also building the system as i go, i am not purchasing all my components at one time let alone have the room to really do things properly. I am not going to run a 5.1 but rather a 3.1 since the depth of my room isn't big enough. I do not mind a full frontal sound stage at all, i just want to hear things much better than i have ever before. The subwoofer is optional as i said before, the bass carries but im not turned off to the idea as i can control the bass via gain and other controls in my 5.1 receiver. With this said, i would like this to be an investment, one that i wont have to upgrade for a while since money is tight. I am not turned off to the idea of bookshelfs but i would prefer towers since i can fit them. Im not really too sure as to the major difference between the two aside from the obvious size and frequency ranges on some models. I dont ever plan to be a true home theater, just very much so a living room surround sound stage, I just want some good quality drivers to make a system that i would be happy with.

Right now, budget wise, i was looking to spend around $1000 max for towers, less is more preferable but if the extra money is worth it in the long run, i would spend that much. Next step is the center channel or a sub, depending on what models or what deals are out there, i would go with one or the other. I have heard both the reference RF-62 and RF-82 as well as the WF-35 and WF-34. I liked them all, i thought they all sounded good, i checked them out at Best Buy's Magnolia Room and i can say that i was happy over all with the sound quality. My big thing will be to have bass, i do want lows an i noticed that the reference series has a much wider frequency range and can handle the lows, in this case, i wouldn't buy a subwoofer but most likely a center channel instead. The Icon W series sounded very clean, i thought the WF-34 had too small of a sound for me while the WF-35 presented a much larger feeling. Best Buy is having a smoking deal, if you buy two WF-34 or 35's you get a free XW-300d free. This is a smoking deal and i wish i had the money. This makes these towers a seriious contender since they are 549 a piece right now and coupled with that subwoofer its a huge deal. The WF-35 without the sub does feel that it is lacking in the bass department. The RF-62 had a good sound to it, i thought it felt not too large and not too small. The RF-82 definitly had a big presence, i felt almost too large. Both of the references with their more bassy lower extension would allow me to not purchase a subwoofer but a center channel instead in a time frame much tighter then if i did the ICON W's.

I also heard the ICON W bookshelf speakers and was amazed at their output. But once again, they would need to be coupled with a subwoofer.

Now, running dolby digital, 70% or so of output is done via the center channel and overall, to me, may negate the need to buy huge towers, spend more, and just use bookshelfs instead.

I know my ideas and thoughts are alittle jumbled and are all over the place and its hard for me to construct things in a more coherent manner. In the end, i am trying to be cost efficient, achieve a good, clean, bass worth soundstage that can grow with me. The icon w's are more than the reference in some cases and i was wondering if they were really worth the money they are being sold for.
