Holyspokes

I've had these speakers a long time and they have worked with the computer that they are connected to now in the past. I moved, and the speakers were left at home. I recently got them shipped to me and now I am trying to connect them to my computer and they won't work! I don't know why. Can anyone point me in the direction of some good troubleshootin. The speakers were ridiculously well packed, and it doesn't seem like there was any damage at all. On the back of the bass when I first connected the speakers, I had a few of the wires switched (red/black wise), and now are correct. Did I damage the system like this? I've had speakers connected to this computer just prior to installation of these ones, but they were some cheap 2.1's. Sorry for the lack of knowledge on lingo. Thanks for any help!
