  1. Thanks for your thoughts and reply. That is what I thought about the quintents but patience is a hard thing when your old! I did hear them at Bestbuy. Not great but not bad. The center did not sound real clear even with my bad ears. Maybe what I should do is get the center speaker first, then the fronts, then the rears then the center rear. I hate cash flow isssues [li].
  2. there are 4 audio outs on TV, 2 to the Onkyo and 2 to the yamaha with a cable to the subwoofer?
  3. Getting excited for Xmas. Newbie needs some advice. First some background. I have a 10 year Onyko preamp and amp driving a pair of Bose 901's. Sounds grreat but moving towards a HT. I have a Samsung 55 LED and currently using the stereo via RCA out plugs to provide some depth sound rather than the LED speakers. Bought a Klipsch sub 10 off of craigslist for $100 but have not been able to hook it up (see previous posts) due to Onyko only has one pre-out and that is going to the Bose equalizer that drives the 901s. For Xmas, i bought a Yamaha RX-V655 and I am looking for some suggestions on speakers. I looked at the Quintet III for $200 or the Quintent SL for $400. Not sure what the differnce is and if the price differnce is worth it. Thoughts? As you can see from the diagrams attached, space is an issue with the HT room being in a finshed attic that measures 8 X 14. I am open to other speaker options but clueless. A consultant suggested B & W 685s and a B & W CWM6160 but they seem expensive for what you get. In the interim, I plan on using the Onyko to drive the 901's and the Yamaha to drive the Sub woofer. Good thought or bad? . Really don't want to spend more than $1000 on front, rear, center and back center speakers. Suggestions welcomed. .

    RSW Sub 10

Youthman: Thanks for the quick response. The Onkyo is two spearate units. It was KIING Kong in its time, even had two VCR connections! WOW yuh!. The pre-amp has only two RCA connects as output (L & R). Lots of input connections left. I beleive there is a audio/video output but this is not the main output Pretty sure this is actually an enhancement pass thru from the front of the unit connections (camrecorder) to the TV. I will try using the y RCA and double connect to the RSW and see if that works. Good thought. I have not tried that. Any other thoughts? Thank you kindly for oyur help.

    RSW Sub 10

I am new to the forum and need some assistance. I am old and kind of thick so plesae forgive me beforehand. I have an older Onyko from around 1990 that is configured with a amp and pre-amp running Bose 901 Series VI. I know you all hold that against me but I am ok with that. I beleive the models are P-3160 and M-5160 respectively. As you maybe aware, the Bose run off an equilizer that allows the mid ranges to create bass. I have a Samsung LCD that has got me thinking Home theater system in a big way, however money is tight. Right now I have a couple of RCA jacks running from my TV to my audio system above and it sounds decent not great. Eventaully I would like to get a real AV receiver and Surrongd sounds speakers. With Christmas coming, my wife bought me a RSW subwoofer that I would like to see if I can connect to my current system. I beleive I should connect the RSW to the preamp via the "out" RCA. I tried that with no sound coming from the RSW. I also tried a split y with one connected to the Bose equalizer and one to the RSW. Still no sound. My wife t bought the RSW used from craigslist but said she is sure it worked as it was connected to the sellers system before purchase. She heard it during the demo. The light in the frpont of the RSW is lit and appears to make a "turned on" sound so I beleive the amp is still good and the fuse appears not to be blown. Anyt thoughts on how to get this to work. I am friustrated. I have tried to also run the "B" speaker system to the line in on the back of the RSW, that did not work either. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need very explicit thoughts as I am not that great with electronics. Thanks in advance!.
