Glad to hear it! My kids give me a hard time for my music. Today was Queensrych "Promised Land". It's hard to stay on task (creating moulding for the spare bath) with engaging albums.

Good idea! As a woodworker I would have thought of building the entire cabinet, not just plugging the port, and creating one in front.

A Chorus II of KLF 20 is not an option for me.
Since my space requires the speakers to be very close to the wall, I can not use a speaker with rear ports or rear passive radiator.
Maybe I'll just get both and see what works the best. I'm sure the wife will like the Cornwalls in the LR. NOT

BTW - This is my listening space. About 30 x 60 total, this shot is 1/4 of the total.

Heresys will not come close to KG 5.5s in the bass department...but Heresys will have a midrange that your KGs can't match...and the top is nicer (if you like Heritage better) than the KGs too...it all depends on what you want...and what you want them to do... Bill

I was afraid that others would agree that the impact of KG 5.5 is tough to beat. Part of the issue is the age old question of two vs three way. Or small fast cones vs large slower cones.
I would be using these in my shop so there is no sweet spot. Just looking to fill the room with ear pleasing music (Joe Satriani,Santana, Megadeath).
Of course I could use the Heresy's on my test bench when tweaking amp...
Anyone want to offer an opinion on Cornwalls vs KG 5.5s?

I could have sworn the label on the back of these say 4 ohm. Of course, I could be crazy.
My Heresy IIs are 8 ohm.The Heresy IIs at 4 ohm are a better match for my tube amps....

A friend is looking to swap his Heresys for a laptop. I own KG5.5 and am looking into Corwalls.
My question is if the Heresy IIs can match the bass depth and impact of my KG5.5s. I know it is all a matter of personal preferance. The specs show that the KG5.5s can go lower, but I believe the Heresy II are more sensitive.
The Heresy IIs at 4 ohm are a better match for my tube amps....
...ahh to many choices!

+1 for dbPoweamp! I've been using it for years and have no complaint.
Be carefull if you use winamp, their built in support for FLAC does not fully support all of the FLAC tags.

Really? Their user manual states that it has jensen transformers in it. Might be a quaility piece?

4,804 Tracks ripped as FLAC with dBpoweramp. Takes up about 135 GB.
I use foobar2000 for playback.
Occasional we'll use Subsonic on the media server to transcode FLAC for other wireless devices.

That model Soundcraftsmen does not have a delay start. As a matter of fact, the input transistors are not protected at all. They can blow if the amp is on when the pre is powered on. I believe the pre transistors are still available. Be carefull if you open her up. That gear is wire wrapped and the end of the wires get brittle with age.

I know that if that Power Amp is on when the Pre comes up, it can blow the input transistors in that amp. Soundcraftsmen gear is directly coupled, no caps to protect the input transistors. I believe they are readily available, unlike the outputs.
That amp is wire wrapped and the wires tend to become brittle. So, be carefully if you open her up.

I thought that the Soundcraftsman amps were notorious for going up in smoke. Usually taking out your speakers. Seriously...
And welcome to the forum.
I've never heard that about Soundcraftsmen gear. Any personal experiance with them?

Pakistan would be a bit of a trip for me! :-) There are sites out there that sell the cables.
Here's one that looks OK. http://www.flashbacksales.co.uk/acatalog/4-pin-din-phono-rca-cables.html They specify the Quad 303.
Then you should be able to attach the 303 to the Marantz Preout and enjoy. Looking the the circuits, most of the rolloff should be a result of the Quad 33 Preamp - so should sound great!

Anyone out there have experiance on this underrated Hitachi? A buddy of mine just purchsed one. He would like me to look it over for him.

As for the Marantz sound, I've always felt it was a combination of 80% pre and 20% Amp. Meaning the laid back but refined sound is mainly in the Pre. You would gain headroom and bass response (speed) by using an outboard amp. I would however caution on the JVC - it might sound to sharp in comparison.
I did some quick reading on the Quad 303 Amplifier and 33 Pre. Interesting pieces... Very interesting bias circuitry.
There are mods you can do (or have done) to the back panel of your 303 to accept Phono Jacks. Or simply have a Din to RCA cable built. I do not know if I post a link... but you can check out Net Audio in the UK.
I've read some complaints about the bass rolloff (lack of bass) on the 303, have you experianced this. I think it is due to the coupling used.

Well the long (34 hours) wait is over. After loading Rivernugget's KG 4's and enjoying a few Chocolate cookies, the speakers are hooked up. I must admit, they are everything I expected. Articulate and well behaved.
I knew these would sound much better than the Polks they embarassed. I only had a few minuetes to enjoy them (children wiht early bedtimes). So, I just used the Sony TA-2650 to drive them.
I have the day off on Friday - I'll be sure that the neighbors enjoy them too. [
