  1. Thanks for the advice, AChris. I did try that and it didn't seem to make any difference in the sound quality for me. The speaker sounds both boxy and tinny, and the sound of say a sheet rustling comes off a little crackley. I just hope my dealer didn't sell me a bad one. I'm either going to try a replacement, or an upgrade to the rc-3.
  2. SteveDeBeave--I don't think I can adjust dB for my center, just the mains. I've got a Yamaha htr-5240 reciever. I can change the impedance though--would that make a difference? I tried the sc-1 in the store and it sounded great--but the one I bought online sounds bad. Take the sound of a sheet being rustled--it sounds kind of scratchy. Maybe I do have a bad one? Foost--I might take your advice and try trading in my SC-1 towards the cost of an rc-3 ... I just hope it doesn't overwhelm the sf-2 towers.
  3. The Klipsch site recommends I use the SC-1, but I bought one and I don't like the sound. I'm wondering about bumping up to a better center. Any one with any experience with this out there? If I get a different Klipsch center, will it fail to blend with the SF-2s? If you have an opinion, please tell me, because I only have a few days to return the SC-1 I have and am not sure if I should ask for a replacement or a different model all together ....
  4. Sarcasm's not a problem, PhilH, I can be a pretty sarcastic bastard myself, if the occasion warrants it. I'm not sure if this dealer is lacking knowledge, or simply somewhat dishonest, at least when it comes to magnetic shielding and customers who might be about to cancel their orders. Weird thing is he's a member of the BBB and ranks high on those online audio rating sites ... I think you're right about just trying the sub once it gets here, not that I have much choice anyway. If I have a problem, then I'll find out just how reputable this dealer is. Thanks for your response.
  5. Hey thanks, Foost, I appreciate your advice! I think there might be a bit of "breaking in", because after an hour or so of playing music through the SC-1, it is starting to sound a little better. It still sounds slightly distorted up close though. I thought of taking it into the local shop to compare, but the reason I bought online in the first place, besides the lower price, is that the local Klipsh dealer here is, well, somewhat sleazy. For instance, floor models--i.e. used models--are only 5% off the already inflated price. And you only have three days to make a return! That's why I thought I'd rather take my chances on line. As for the RC-3, I'm sure you're right about it sounding better than the SC-1, but I'm planning on getting the SF-2 towers, and the SC-1 is what Klipsh says makes a good match. Do you think the RC-3 would work with the SF-2 towers? I'm concerned it might overpower them. Thanks again for your response!
  6. I demoed this speaker before ordering one online and it sounded great--best center I've heard. I ordered one online and got it today and it sounds crumby--kind of tinny, is the best way I can describe it, without much depth or sense of expansion. I've heard many people talking about a "breaking in" period when it comes to new speakers -- could this be the problem? I know the setup in the store was not the same as what I have at home, but I tried to factor for that as much as possible ... Could I just have a bad speaker? If so I have 15 days to return it if I do. Are there any tests I could run to determine what might be wrong with it, if anything? Any advice much appreciated!
  7. Hey, thanks a lot for both of your responses! I called the online place from which I ordered and the guy insisted that there would be no problem. He also tried to tell me that the sub was shielded, but when I pointed out that Klipsch's own website states that it isn't, he then tried to tell me that "no subwoofers are shielded". This is making me kinda nervous, seeing as how it is making me wonder if the place I ordered from can be trusted. The guy said he'd never seen a magnetic interference problem with the KSW-12 and would allow me to return it if it was a problem for me. I'm keeping my fingers crossed ... Thanks again for your responses!
  8. After listening to one of these babies I went ahead and ordered one. Only problem is I was planning on hiding it behind my TV stand--it's a nice sounding sub, but my girlfriend will take one look at the new ugly black square in our living room and kill me--and then I realized it isn't magnetically shielded ... Can I still put it behind the TV? I have a 27 inch Panasonic sitting on top of a thirty inch tall cabinent. The sub pretty much has to go right behind the TV and cabinent against the wall, give or take a couple of inches ... Will it zap my TV? I have some cheap 30 inch towers and if I put them next to the TV it definitely has an affect ... Please advise so I can know if I should cancel my order! And--if anyone knows of a nice shielded sub around $300, or one that doesn't look too bad, say with a natural wood finish--please let me know! Belial
  9. Whoops--I meant to say KSW-12, if that makes any difference ...
